It’s not the grand cure for all of life’s problems i initially thought it was, but it makes them a damn sight easier to deal with in he moment, and the physical/mental changes are a constant massive boost. It was a great decision to make for myself and I’d choose to do it again everytime

Check out pretty much anything Evan Brewer has ever done - he’s a ridiculously good bass player. His work in Entheos uses slap/funk techniques within a metal context loads, and it’s amazing

I took on a bass dep gig a few years ago for a soul/jazz singer doing some original music at very late notice - about 50% of these tunes were still not recorded yet and I had about 2 days to try and learn the set on top of working the day job etc, so the singer sent over a bunch of chord charts/sheet music to help me get through the set in one piece.

I organised everything and made sure it was all in the right order but what I stupidly didn’t do is staple anything together or attach them to my music stand - about 3 minutes into the first song a breeze blows in when some fella opens a door by the stage and the sheets end up on the floor in a huge jumbled up pile of unnumbered, loose pieces of paper.

Had to get through the rest of gig completely winging a bunch of tunes I’d never heard before by looking at what the guitarist and keyboardists hands were doing and trying to improvise something along, trying to do something that wasn’t total shit and fit the vibe. I’ve never packed down and bailed after a set so quickly in my life

He’s ridiculously talented and I love how he takes things to a higher level and really pushes himself on every single album, time after time. I’m not even a drummer but every time I’ve seen the band my eyes are glued to him, and the fact that he can absolutely nail it all live whilst he’s doing so much backing vocal work on top is just so, so impressive.

An Abstract Illusion - Woe gave me huge Blackwater Park vibes the first time I heard it. They’re fellow Swedes and it’s manages to get that balance of heavy and atmospheric just like classic Opeth just right. For me, an absolutely incredible album in every way.

100%. I’ve been going to the same artist for nearly 10 years now - he’s covered most of my arms, chest, leg etc. My most recent tattoo was one of my hands and he still asked me if I was secure financially, how it would go down at my job, certain about the placement etc before he went through with it. I like to think that any artist who has professionalism, respect for their customer and actually cares about tattooing (and about their reputation) would turn you away if you went in for a potential job-stopper (hands, neck, face) etc as a first tattoo

When keeping it real goes wrong

Double check which digital version you’ve bought - the GOTY ‘The Fire Fades’ edition of DS3 comes with DLC included

Enjoy it, explore and just take it in! Don’t Google stuff or look stuff up on YouTube first - I really wish I could play again for the first time completely blind but I was impatient, dumb and regret the amount of extra ‘help’ I gave myself to this day
