Pre-match USOC | New Mexico United @ New York City FC II | Tue May 21, 2024 5:30 PM MDT Pre Match

Putting this up a few days before I normally post a pre-match thread in case anyone is thinking about buying tickets. I'll write something up a bit later this week. Anyone attending in person? How are plane prices?

If you know of any watch parties around the state, reply and i'll update the post.

Predictions about the match?

I don't even this even qualifies as mildly interesting anymore. Maybe a few years ago it would have. It is now turning into the norm.

Looks like the data is from a Gallup poll conducted in 2013. https://news.gallup.com/poll/168653/montanans-alaskans-say-states-among-top-places-live.aspx

Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted June-December 2013, with a random sample of approximately 600 adults per state, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states.

Probably will get downvoted, but nobody ever said you need P+ to watch the games. If they did, they misspoke.

I think it was the wording in the press release that made things more confusing than it needed to be.

"CBS Sports’ extensive multiplatform USL match coverage will air across the CBS Television Network and Paramount+, CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Golazo Network. "

"Matches on the CBS Television Network will also simulcast live on Paramount+. CBS Sports will also televise more than 20 USL matches on CBS Sports Network annually and 75 USL matches each season on CBS Sports Golazo Network, the 24/7 soccer streaming network available across multiple platforms, including Paramount+."

Someone who just quickly browsed that release, would have seen P+ mentioned a few a times, and may have made assumptions. My understanding is if the match is on the over the air CBS network, it will also be streamed on Paramount+. Otherwise, don't look on P+ for the match.

I think Flower City Union had (has?) some kind of investing thing. I don't know if it is a real investment, or just something to feel good about.

Annnnnnnd we're back home for our first league match @ the Lab in a long while. Do any of you have your voice back from Weds night? Any awesome tales to tell? (Here are a few clips from the Supporters area if you were not able to attend).

Next up we are playing Oakland Roots. Oakland has been floundering around below the play-off line and will be looking to turn things around against us. Both clubs played USOC matches this week so it will be interesting to see how player rotation goes.

We are 1-2-2 against them with our only win coming from an away match in 2022.

Ref for this match is Brandon Stevis. Brandon's stats so far this season:

Oh yeah, tonight is Meow Wolf night! Wearing anything amazing? Any traditions from past Meow Wolf nights? Predictions for this evening? Ready to get loud? Ready to... SOMOS!!!!!

Not to mention fifa might step in.

Though, this quote from Gianni Infantino in 2021 comes to mind:

FIFA president Gianni Infantino says a merger between Mexico's Liga MX and Major League Soccer (MLS) would be seen positively by the game's governing body and could produce "the best league in the world".

So if MLS/Liga MX merged with FIFA's blessing, then there would be no issues because both leagues would be one.

Then this week we heard that the rule disallowing domestic leagues from playing abroad is about to be changed. https://theathletic.com/5467240/2024/05/02/fifa-lawsuit-us-soccer-rule-change/ (archive.ph link) Which could have implications on a theoretical USA based LigaMX club.

I have heard rumblings of LigaMX expanding to the USA for years, but nothing ever concrete. Some of the Texas USL clubs supporters also have stated that their clubs should be in LigaMX. I also heard about some plan to merge MLS with LigaMX, and if that happened, that clubs like ours could get swept up in that.

We, of course, are not likely to get "promoted" to MLS, unless some billionaires want to take us there. Each team that joins MLS has to pay a franchise fee that goes up for the next club that joins. I believe the last team paid about 500 million, so the next to join would pay in more than that. That is what they call fuck you money.

My ideal end goal would be a pro/rel system between USL League One, USL Championship, and a theoretical USL Premier. But for that to happen, the USSF's professional league rules would need to be changed (due to stadium and metro population issues). I expect those kinds of changes will be rather complicated and aggravating to achieve.

In the meantime, we can hope that MLS continues to compete in the US Open Cup. MLS's participation keeps that CONCACAF Champions Cup spot open for the winner of the USOC. Could you imagine a USLC club like ours in that competition?

That section has great sight lines for the entire pitch. Good choice. If you are up for standing the entire match, join us in the supporters section at the next match you attend. Very different sight lines, and a different atmosphere. A few clips from the 2nd half from my perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA-NdVCDREE

Awesome! What section of the stadium where you in ?

I belive there are some watch parties for away matches in SF.

during warm ups they were shooting from distance a lot . seems to be in the plan .

Our second match of the US Open Cup is against MLS's Real Salt Lake. We're playing at home at the Lab. To any newcomers: this is NOT a friendly. Legit stuff is on the line. Expect some kind of drama.

Side thought: I miss the Four Corners Cup.
