Professional doctorates still require an original contribution to knowledge, but they allow for that contribution to be in the form of an applied product, rather than just a written analysis.

It's really not, since it could be July 4th or April 7th, and there is no way to know. Ambiguous data is invalid data.

BBC News - Sunak wades into Badenoch row with actor Tennant https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz77exew09lo

The BBC has multiple outlets, so that one article has been aired on several tv channels and radio stations, but it's just one report.

The Guardian reported the initial comments, then one further piece on Starmer's response.

I don't pay money to Murdoch or the Barclay Brothers, and the Lexis-Nexus archive has a lag, so I can't check the Times or the Telegraph until next week when they catch up, but , that story is nothing.

Unless you're an international student who needs a visa, or have been asked for a whopping deposit, accepting a place and then deciding in August to go somewhere else won't be a problem.

It's not undergrad, where UCAS forces your choice (and forces universities to make offers), there's no penalty.

The website will say so. Most universities already have lists and you can pre-apply if you don't already have an offer. A brief check of five or so universities right now shows all of them advertising that they will have clearing places and in which courses.

You need to look. UCAS may have a list (usually they just have advertisements), but it's up to you to search and find universities that you're interested in. Nobody's going to give you a list of places that have places on your chosen course.

If you think you might not get your choices you can look now, most universities are already showing if they have clearing places. Do your research now, have a list of possible options and then in the morning of results day hit them up at once.

It's not as urgent as it used to be, unless you're looking for allied health courses which fill up really fast.

Yes, you need to contact the universities to see if they'll offer you a place. You can call, but must places now also have an online form/chat function at you can do it without needing to speak out loud.

People thinking that is some kind of revenge of the Terfs plot have no idea how long it takes to make a professionally produced four part investigative podcast, nor how little the spat between Rishi Sunak and David Tennant has penetrated political discourse outside of Tumblr and tiktok.

Tortoise is a reputable and serious media outlet. They've done their homework and although I disagree with Rachel Johnson on pretty much everything, she is a journalist, as are the people who worked on the story with her.

It's a short shooting schedule and not necessarily planned long in advance. People who do it one year may not be available the next. It's not a huge hit that would be career defining, so hosts take other jobs, and move on.

She's more columnist than journalist (had one legitimate reporting job, her first or of university) and pretty socially right wing, running (very unsuccessfully) for a short-lived right wing party. She's a fair writer, but nothing special, and certainly not an investigative reporter.

I generally like and respect Tortoise media, but if they've hired Rachel Johnson I might rethink that.

That's not at all the problem in the UK.

Try fifty-year hike. He disappeared in 1974, and would be ninety now.

This is not at all similar. Stop trying to make everything that happens in the world relate to the USA

I've lived in buildings with a lot of Orthodox Jews. I've been the "shabbas goy" more than once, which I'm happy to do, but I do think there's a bit of loopholery in asking your neighbour to do work you can't do yourself.

Women don't deserve to have to do that

I'll tell you a secret. I don't know a single academic who would rather teach a class of teenagers over a class of grown ups. We LOVE mature students.

Much more likely to be people working than students. It's quite far from UH and inaccessible without a car (most university students in the UK don't drive).

The UK is actually four countries (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) with different amounts of autonomy and self-government. They're not as differentiated as the US states, but things like education, some criminal matters and a lot of civil law is different, especially in Scotland.

The actual counties within those countries are just administrative districts, though, especially in England.

If people are telling you they're going to ucl on a fully funded scholarship, including living expenses, as an international student they are lying.

It's simply not possible.
