How do you use RH for day trading? Just curious about your strategy.

I haven't run into this issue yet. I don't take many trades per day, and they are always small compared to my account size. I can see how it could be a problem though, especially for someone trading with a lot less money.

Is there any point for a newer trader to have a margin account?Question

I have about 30K in a margin account with my broker. I opened the account about six months ago. Thinking that I might one day need to use margin, I opted for a margin account over a cash account.

Things are going well right now, but I never take positions large enough to require margin.

Is this normal? When did you start trading with margin?

This is a bigger problem for heavier people. My wife is 120 lbs and never slips.  I slip constantly but I also weigh 200 lbs.

I thought that having a family would make depression disappear from my life.

But it didn't. I am as frayed as ever. My daughter is great. Having her is a blessing but it also made day to day life so much more convoluted.

I would never hurt myself because I know that she needs me, but almost every day is excruciating.

If I am not at work, then I am doing something to help my family. The last time I did something for myself was to watch Fallout. That's the only thing that I've spent personal time on since the start of the new year. How dull.

The reason I am making this post is to express that, in my experience, having kids does not make depression go away. It changes the calculus of life and gives you something to love and care about, but that is a variable independent from your inner conflicts.

Thirst (2009) is a masterpiece but it gets overshadowed because it's a vampire movie and Park Chan-wook has so many other highly rated films.

I know that Taiwan Plus started only a few years ago but the content is just not very interesting at all. I wish that they would take more notes from NHK programming.

How many people actually live out there? Driving around, I always get the feeling that a very large percentage of those homes are unlived-in investment properties.

Also please do not beg for money in any way or form (e.g., by busking).  This has been a problem with foreign vagrants in the recent past.

I have seen a few YouTubers circle Taiwan using tents. They didn't have any problems.

I do not think anyone will bother you for sleeping in a tent as long as it's: (1) Not on utilized private property and (2) not in some sort of obvious nature preserve with a lot of tourists where camping is visibly prohibited.

If you do camp, please take all of your trash and don't start any fires.

I haven't seen this yet but a few things are annoying me out of the gate: -Incessant references to Twin Peaks S3 by reviewers. The Return was insanely good and doesn't need anyone's movie to complement it. I have also seen the director reference TP as inspiration. -The director's previous movie was easily the worst movie I saw last year. We're All Going to the World's Fair is basically unwatchable.

If you don't stop quickly, your 21k will quickly become 0k. Put the money in ETFs and study more.

I saw some very miserable things working in a very expensive Taiwanese pre-school. Price isn't necessarily directly correlated with quality.

I also have a child and am planing on sending them to government kindergarten. At least these places have discernable standards.

I would be surprised if the Taiwanese DMV actually wanted to keep your US license. Seems unlikely. I always thought trading one's license in as a figure of speech.

You are being awfully presumptive. The things that I said only describe the actions that the OP talks about in their post. You also seem to have missed that the specific sentence you have highlighted is conditional given my usage of 'if'.

You should reconsider how you treat people and engage others if you are actually a teacher.

Everything that I said is true even if it feels arrogant.

I watched a lot of movies in the classroom as a student, and it worked then, but that doesn't mean it works now.

It feels like a lot of teachers fall into this trap of treating past and present as the same.

Big yikes on the teachers downvoting this.  If what you aren't doing isn't working then shouldn't you try something else?

If the only two activities in your bag are bookwork and movies then you may need to reevaluate your teaching methods.

Do your best to reflect on the situation and think about what else you can do on the next day like this.

Movies are lazy and kids get to watch enough of them at home.  Most students have already seen every movie that you might want to show anyways.  Do something fun, engaging, and creative.  Maybe go outside.

I think that getting duped is a serious concern but housing prices have gone up quite a bit since COVID in almost every developed economy. Taiwan hasn't been spared from this phenomenon.

Can you speak further on those issues? Just curious becuase I am interested in new builds but have not toured any.

Unreasonable expectations are at least a small part of this.  A lot of young people refuse to buy an older home.  I felt kind of shitty buying an old apartment that stands right next to a new highrise, but it is what it is.  We can't afford the highrise right now without spending way too much money.

I have heard this before.  I am strongly considering hiring out waterproofing and then doing any finishing work by myself because I know that I'll care about the quality a lot more than some guy in my house for only a week.

Three days is too ambitious. You are right.  But two to three weeks for a bathroom? I was thinking: - Day one: Demo and cement - Day two: Pipework and waterproofing - Day three: Floor cement - Day four: Leak test and tile walls, finish floor too - Day five: toilet / sink  My bathrooms are both quite small.

High prices for bathroom renovationsOff Topic

We are starting the process of renovating some bathrooms. I have to say, I am shocked by the prices that some companies/ independent contractors are charging. A pretty basic bathroom renovation seems to start at about $125,000 NTD. It can easily go up and beyond $200,000 NTD for anything fancy.

I know that prices have gone up a lot in recent years, but $4K USD for a bathroom in Taiwan is still very steep. It seems that labor costs account for half or more of a lot of the quotes I am getting. I really wanted to hire out one of my two bathrooms, but paying some worker uncle type guys thousands of dollars for three days of work is a little bit unreasonable.

Are the quotes that I am getting super high because we are asking people from close to Taipei?

This is the lowest quote I received:

-Wall tiles removal (including bathtub removal) and ceiling removal and disposal: 20,000 -Waterproofing: 15,000 -Base coat: 15,000 -Wall tiles (30x60): 20,000 -Floor tiles (30x30): 20,000 -Replacement of PVC ceiling under 2 pings in bathroom: 10,000 -Replacement of plastic steel door frame and door panel: 8,000

Total: 108,000
