That’s a great idea. Let’s take the smartest, most successful Americans and deport them.
I repeatedly tried shorting it. There were no shares to be found - at least through Vanguard.
I use Proper Cloth for shirts. Not cheap but very good quality and they fit my unusual torso really well.
GME is now below $28, so he’s probably down another $40+ million.
If I had $1 for every time someone posted this, I wouldn’t need to be fluent in finance in order to be rich.
A few months ago there was a teenager in a grocery store trying to buy a deli sandwich. He was wearing a shirt that made it obvious he worked at the yogurt shop next door and was trying to get something to eat on his break. He was really shocked and embarrassed when his card declined. He was busting his ass working and was obviously not a scammer. I just quietly paid for his stuff without him asking. He was of course really thankful.
When I was in my 20s I had a friend tell me that, if he ever had a daughter, I was the type of person he’d want her to marry. I can’t think of a better compliment than that.
It’s really funny that I’m reading this while sitting in a giant sac in Lovesac store while my wife pretends to care about my opinion on which sofa we should get. If it were up to me, I’d get four giant sacs.
Reverse osmosis water purification.
My daughter had a friend who tragically drowned while trying to save someone whose car went into a local lake, and she kept her friend’s number on her phone. A few months later, my daughter’s car started to randomly dial her dead friend’s number without my daughter doing anything, which freaked her out. It did this multiple times.
It turns out that Mazda touchscreens had an issue called “ghost screen” which caused the problem, and I was able to fix it, but it was still freaky.
Back in the 1980s I remember that I had to register with Selective Service in order to qualify for federal student loans. I’m a male, and females didn’t have to register.
If I could upvote this 100 times I would. We can’t have honest debates with fake data.
I just picked up my 720S from its annual service today. $1,971.43 for the service, which was basically an oil change. I also am concerned enough about something expensive breaking that I pay around $5,000 per year for an extended warranty through McLaren.
Around 12% of the population earns over $200,000 but they represent 37% of the audits, so they’re 3X as likely to be audited compared with those earning less than $200,000.
Social security is also capped for higher earners, i.e. rich people don’t get more in benefits than they pay into the system. Social security was set up to be a form of forced retirement savings, not a progressive taxation system for the rich to pay for the poor.
I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m a man who owns and runs a company, and I’m just speculating, but it’s very likely the confusing reaction you got from the boss was due to lawyers telling him not to discuss the incident with you because you may sue the company.
I don’t know the owner, but, if he’s a decent man, he would very much like to console you. Sadly, we live in a very litigious society with some lawyers who like to encourage clients to sue anyone with deep pockets. This is an explanation for your boss’ behavior, not an excuse, but perhaps it will help you to understand what’s really gong on and feel better about his reaction. You don’t need to feel awkward around him. You did nothing wrong, and he knows it.
Trump has almost 80 million shares so every $1 decline in the share prices costs him around $80 million. To rub salt in his wound, he won’t be able to sell shares for six months so he’s sitting there helplessly watching his paper wealth evaporate. The stock fell $5.56 today alone and is down $39 from its peak. $39 x $80 million equals $3.1 billion of Trump share value that has evaporated in the last week.
It’s worth noting that the Scandinavian countries that progressives tend to revere due to their generous social programs have sales tax rates (called VAT in Europe) in excess of 20%, which is a key way of paying for those generous social programs. I also suspect many of those same progressives would vehemently argue against a flat rate consumption tax since they would consider it to be regressive, even if there are tax refunds for lower income families under the proposed plan.
I got into a biking accident in Italy with multiple broken bones, scans, etc. I was in the hospital for five days, so even longer than the OP. My bill was 4,000 Euro, which is currently around $4,400 USD. The quality of the care was very good. Our healthcare system is ridiculous.
Ceramic rotors can save a lot of unsprung weight, which can make a difference in sports cars at the margin. Plus they tend to last a lot longer than iron rotors if you don’t overheat them. Beyond that, they’re not much different than iron rotors on the street. Once they’re warmed up on a race track, they have better brake feel/modulation, but, if you overheat ceramic rotors, they can wear out quickly, and, as this post notes, are crazy expensive to replace.
As an edit, ceramic rotors do not do much for stopping distance, which is mostly driven by tires, suspension, and car weight. Both iron and ceramic rotors can apply enough brake pressure to reach the limit of a car’s braking grip.
I’m in a somewhat similar situation. My brother at one point in time had tens of millions of dollars while I was struggling to make it through graduate school. He was paying the full living expenses and tuition expenses for a variety of his girlfriends but never once offered me any kind of support. Through a series of disastrous business decisions he is now broke and has 4 teenaged children with two different women. I’m currently fully supporting all of them, and it pisses me off, but at least they’re not living with me. I also provide a major annual subsidy to my mother, but I’m less angry about that because she was a good, loving mom who worked hard to support me when my father abandoned us.
This is what I recommend:
Do not have them live with you. There are lots of inexpensive places to live in the Midwest or in countries like Mexico or Thailand or Costa Rica.
Set a subsidy amount that you can tolerate, and the rest is their problem. I’m assuming they get social security, so combine that with some amount of support from you, and my guess is that they can find someplace to live off of that amount. It’s not your problem if they don’t want to live in Iowa.
Suggest they work at least part time if that’s not enough to fill the gap.
Be kind to yourself. It’s not your fault or your problem that they’re in this situation. Help them out within reason and then be at peace with the rest…but don’t have them live with you!!!
Offer to switch rooms with him and have him pay the $900.
Maybe he and Trump can be cell mates!
