Snape is still a child when he attends hogwarts and has no qualms with using dark magic and calling muggle borns mudbloods.

Snape was known to use dark magic in school. He thought it was funny when his friends used dark magic on Mary Macdonald. He called Lily a mudblood.

I mean have you not read the books? If you have maybe you need to reread them. Snape does not care about anyone but Lily. He would still be a death eater if Voldemort killed Neville's parents instead of Harry's. Snape bullied children with no problem. The movies glorified snape.
