First time buyer.

The seller had a landlords buildings insurance policy which my solicitor had advised I purchase the remaining policy from the seller to satisfy the buildings insurance cover, even though I am not a landlord.

When the insurance period was nearly up I met with a broker to arrange the next years policy. The broker said that the policy I purchased as part of the sale was void and was negligently sold to me and that I should investigate further with my solicitor. The only insurance paperwork I ever had was in the name of the previous freehold owners property management company as they had surrendered the freehold to myself.

I looked through my old emails and found one where the sellers solicitor said they would amend the insurance policy on completion of sale. I asked my solicitor to chase the sellers solicitor for the ammend policy in my name but has all gone quiet on both ends. I arranged a new policy myself the moment I was in doubt.

1) Was purchasing the insurance product from the old property management company legitimate in the first place? Is this something I should push my solicitor on? Could this have put my mortgage in jeopardy?

2) If the sellers solicitor forgot to ammend the policy holders name as they said they would, is this something I should get my solicitors to push them on?
