What's the best sit down curry joint in soton you would currently recommend? cheers!
Second this, my chicken Tikka was divine
Big fan of Kali Mirchi in Shirley. Sanjha is also excellent.
Another thumbs up for Sanjha.
Agreed on Kali
Kali Mirchi is very good.
Tandoori in woolston. Great food and the staff are friendly.
Sanjha 100%
I actually miss living in Shirley due to Sanjha.
I now only get to experience it at the cricket, but I always get something from there every time. Closest thing I’ve found to authentic curry, having lived in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Sanjha and it’s not even close for me
My indian cabbie recommended this place to me today, ill def be trying it soon
Have been there hundreds of times and never once been disappointed
Babooji
Masalla Woolston always been good
If you see the way they live upstairs and the way their food is stored you would NEVER eat in there trust me! Worked in there once and it nearly put me off Indian food for life honestly
Thanks for the warning
A new one is Lazzeez on the Avenue, which is up there for me. Others in my top tier include Gurkha Lounge, Kohinoor, Sanjha.
Bayleaf is good, but what sets it apart is the enormous portions.
Padharo is also good. Vegetarian though, if you want meat.
Gurkha lounge for me
Lovely people, lovely food. Plus they sell gurkha beer so you don't have to suffer pretending to like cobra or kingfisher
Yes 100%
If you want curry as in a standard indian then Kohinoor of Kerala without a doubt. However my all time favourite (although not a place you go for a curry with naan, rice etc) is Kesarum by far
Used to be coriander lounge, or the Everest, but they feel like they’ve gone off the boil a bit.
The Tarka in Lordshill is an excellent takeaway.
Watching the comments here with interest 👍
Went to everest a few months back, it was really really average for an above average price.
Kohinoor
Has anyone tried the new one that’s opened in Bedford Place - Mint Lounge I think it’s called?
My go tos have all been listed - Sanjas, Coriander Lounge and Woolston Tandoori. When in the Bedford Place area we normally got to Basmatis.
Sravs in Portswood. It's relatively new so not very popular yet, but it's amazing. I take all my guests from other cities there and they love it.
Baboo ji!
Padharo is very good
Ok , Indian here . Sadly Southampton has very few choices when it comes to authentic Indian food . Many here said Sanjha but I absolutely hated it when I went there . Coriander is decent but they use the same chicken in different gravy so their curry isn’t that good . Everest is comparatively better one if you go for their buffet option . Now if you fancy some light takeaways there is a small punjabi takeaway in st Mary’s road , limited choice but very well made .Kohinoor of Kerala is another fairly decent one .These days I only go to Indian restaurants when I visit London . Southampton ones are usually poor food and overpriced
Did you try Bites of India in Shirley?
Nope , never heard of it
Opened late last year, in Shirley say half way between specsavers and the precinct on specsavers side. They also have a shop opposite selling sweets, snacks and packets of rice, etc etc. I think they describe it as Indian Street food. It's all vegetarian in the restaurant, and seems to have totally different food to other places in this discussion.
I tried The Raj recently and have ordered from them 3 times now based on the first order.
That said though, their menu on Just Eat has like 13 different types of curry (not including the different meats) which leads me to wonder whether they’re doing many curries at an ok level.
I want a curry house to do a smaller number of curries very well.
Also their Naga curry is 👌
Another thumbs up for Sanjha, try the Lawrence Road there!
Bayleaf Kitchen or Coriander Lounge
The Bay Leaf or Bengal Paradise are good choices
Sanjha is just on another level no contest
Between myself and a mate of mine we'd been using Kali Mirchi very regularly for a few years. He went on Friday and said it was really bad, might not go back.
I used to like Corriander Lounge a lot, not been so much lately (see below)
Sanjha is good, tho my uncle won't use it any more after a very salty dish and his friend couldn't eat what she ordered.
I really wasn't impressed with Kohinoor the first 2 or 3 times I went there(a few years ago when it was very hyped). Last time i went (2 months ago) I thought it was great.
Bayleaf has been a revelation - cheaper than corriander lounge and as good/better. Everyone I've taken there has enjoyed it.
Maybe the above variance is a change of chef, or one restaurant does a favourite dish a different way? (See Sanjha for example)
Jewel's, Chartwell Green. A bit more expensive but worth every penny
Sokka-Haiku by waggers5:
Jewel's, Chartwell Green.
A bit more expensive but
Worth every penny
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
Lazzeez on the avenue is really good.
The bay leaf
