Awesome. Are you in the US? Where’d you buy it?

It’s very muddy, the EQ does little, and it started rattling after a few weeks.

I think it was a ‘22. Glad you got a great one! I may give it another shot one day.

Rando’s ranking of his SquiersGeneral Discussion

Howdy pals,

No one asked, but I’m killing time and thought I’d rank the various Squiers I’ve owned. I play in two styles: incompetent Johnny Marr and semi-competent Clash. I play through a Blues Jr, a Katana 50 MKII, and a 68 Princeton (which sucks).

  1. Paranormal Nashville Custom Stratocaster: needed a truss rod adjustment, but this one feels delightful to play and sounds great. The Strat pickup is great—full and chimey. The two tele pickups are lovely, too. The bridge is little less bright than my CV SH Tele. This one also has the best electronics of the bunch.

  2. Classic Vibe 60s SH Telecaster (Sherwood Green). Very close second. As nice playing as the Paranormal, but the neck humbucker is a little too dull, and the bridge is a smidge bright. Like the paranormal, the guitar is very resonant when unplugged.

  3. Classic Vibe 60s Jazzmaster: just a good, solid JM. Trem is great, pickups are more to my taste than the JMJM, and the neck is good enough. The Rhythm circuit is less pronounced than on the JMJM, but in a good way.

  4. J Mascis Jazzmaster: yes, the neck is great, but the overall build quality on this one was not on par with my other Squiers. It hums like crazy, the nut is poorly cut, and the electronics do nothing below 7. And the trem is very clacky. Probably just my actual guitar, rather than the line in general, but this one didn’t work for me.

And yeah, I can’t believe how much guitar you get for your money these days. No, they aren’t as good as my Am Pro II Strat, but they are close enough.

Jazzmaster Junior trem arm socket/sleeve is loose

Like an idiot, I over tightened the threaded tremolo arm on my Jazzmaster Junior. When I unscrewed it, the actual socket/sleeve that holds the arm became loose and sank into the bridge. I can pull it back up, but I’m not sure how to tighten it. Any tips on how to do it without uninstalling the entire bridge?

SKIPPY DIES is so good. And yes to making the stripes permanent.

I got mine the other day and I’m really pleased with it. I have a few Squiers (a JMJM and a Paranormal Nashville Strat) and this one feels the most well-executed. I love the sound of the middle position.

I absolutely love my Paranormal Nashville Strat. It’s a pragmatic freak show of a guitar.

Recommendations for the best way to obtain a Tokai in the US?

Great advice—it’s how I’ve found every single guitar I’ve loved over the last 30 or so years of playing.

Appreciate this clarification. I don’t actually think I know what I’m looking for!

Which T style guitars should I check out?

A few months ago I bought on a whim a Squier Paranormal Nashville Strat, which has tele controls, bridge, and pickups. I love the guitar, so much so that I’m considering getting a true T-style guitar. Which ones should I check out? Price is luckily not as big of a factor as it’s been in the past for me, but I do love bang for my buck.

Stuff I like or would like in my next guitar: - a thinner neck. Been playing 9-inch radius necks and I’m interested in something different. - pickups don’t need to be super spicy. I likes me some jingle jangle. - satin neck finish (or a glossy finish that isn’t too sticky) - jumbo frets - country of origin doesn’t matter. Neither does brand. - probably obvious, but good build quality

Thanks!

Squire Paranormal Nashville Strat. It’s really versatile and the build quality on mine is very good. And it was easy to set up.

Hiking in NJ is underrated. Check out nynjtc.org. The palisades and Ramapos are cool but don’t be afraid to head west. Hacklebarney is very pretty.

Or it’s because you don’t know enough about the elements of guitar sounds and you are looking for advice on how to experiment.

Jazzmaster Junior from Japan. The short scale and light body make it extremely comfortable to play.

You cannot be an effective prose humorist without a great style and tone. Pratchett, like Wodehouse, is seriously underrated as a prose stylist.

I think the Katz translation is a great choice for a first-time reader. As for which edition, what sort of background knowledge are you bringing to the book? Where are you on your journey as a reader? The essays in the Norton might not be very helpful, but the footnotes are usually great.
