Our pts% after trading Tanev was 4th worst in the league, just ahead of injury riddled Columbus. And this was before trading away Markstrom and Mangiapane.

Contract year will give him motivation hopefully.

Did we refuse a 2 year contract? Is there a source for that?

I don't fully disagree but it seems the issue is term not AAV. Maybe he just has longer term offers that secure his future. Can't fault a guy for taking the best offer for himself as a UFA when he's in the age for his biggest contract.

Love the signings today. Low term signings that can easily be flipped at the deadline.

Kuzmenko and Mantha could easily be worth a 2nd each at the deadline, making space for Coronato and Pelletier to ease into full time top 9 roles throughout the season. Bean could also net a pick in 2 years. Flames already have a ton of top 96 picks next 2 years and Conny just likely added a couple more.

Sharkey signed at a solid middle 6 rate for his entire prime is a win in terms of longer term contracts. And Lomberg is a great guy to have for a rebuild, and could possible net another pick next year.

If you like Mountains then it's an elite place to live.

But Still just the number 4 NHL mountain destination after Vancouver, Colorado and Seattle.

Barkov had a higher on ice goal differential tho. Which is more important

Similar style not similar skill. Kylington is worth more than Bean.

I mean if you look at similar deals around the same time, he did well.

Winger market was weak last summer but he still got a 30 goal scorer plus a 3rd (Suniev is a solid prospect) for a 30+ expiring contract. Markstrom trade was better than Ulmark despite being older and worse numbers. Lindholm trade was great. Hanifin trade maybe could have been a bit more given his age and pedigree, but we will got a solid return, 2 picks and a decent young damn. Mangiapane for a 2nd is solid work too.

Flames management sucks and we all accept that as flames fans. So we don't blame our players for leaving.

Draisaitl has been an playoff beast on offense his whole career (altho inflated by an easier division), but his defense has really taken away his overall impact.

When they lost to Vegas last year, he had 4 goals yet was a -3 in one game. That's emblematic of his playoff performances - generational offensive numbers but overall goal differential, while still good, is not one of an elite player.

I think you are right overall, but the reasoning is flawed. I think the reason shutting down Drai shuts down the Oilers is because you can't really fully shut down McDavid. So if you try to shut down McDavid, Drain runs free and McDavid still produces, but if you shut down Drai, then only McDavid is producing, which despite 10 points in the final, was not enough.

It would be soul crushing against any other opponent.

Against the Oilers, it's nothing but happiness

It took McDavid breaking Gretzky records previously thought to be unbreakable for the Oilers to get this far. There's no way this performance should have ended in a loss

Our drafting in the 2000s was so bad, we had no idea what a good prospect was until Johnny and Monny showed us what elite prospects really were.

Offensively he's the 2nd, 3rd or 4th best player in the world, no doubt.

But yZerman and Crosby have both talked about how they learned to sacrifice offense for a more complete game in order to win. Goals aren't what matter, goal differential is what wins games and cups. Drai sucks defensively. He scores a lot but is constantly on the ice for goals against. Remember when he scored 4 goals and was a -3 last year?

As an overall player, Drai is not top 5 in the world like he's always ranked to be. If you consider on ice goal differential at 5v5, he's 43rd in the playoffs with a goal differential of 3, well below McDavid.

Loading tendonitis should be done in a controlled graded amount with physiotherapy as to not aggravate it. Playing elite competitive physical hockey is definitely not helping it. A couple months of rest and therapy would have had him much improved.

How can any team look at the flames who deatroyed their 1C in Monahan and think that's a smart way to run a team. Healthy players are more valuable that half broken stars paid like they are healthy.

How is this not a strong team? Only lacking area is a true 1C which we already knew was our weakness, and of course no goalie other than Wolf. Hard to find true 1Cs with almost no top 5 picks and trading away so many 1st rounders.

Defense has a norris contender and a couple #2s. Forwards have a 2 elite wingers who have had Hart consideration, a perenial Selke level 2C, and a 40 goal scoring centre (pre injuries).

Add a 1C and assume Wolf works out and it's a contender.

The people of Gaza literally made a video thanking the college protestors for fighting for them.

And humanitarian aid is not even being let in, the cast majority of it is being blockaded. Many of us have donated only for our donations to be stuck at the Egyptian border for weeks.

It's not about selling every good young player, it's about asset management through a retool. Sharangovich is not a core player nor is he young enough to be in his prime when we want to contend. His value is as high as it will be before he gets a higher contract. How else do we expect to retool in 3 years if we don't sell high on complementary players

I mean we had the 3rd worst record since trading Tanev and Hanifin, and we are likely trading Markstrom this summer too. Even if we are only really bad for 1-2 more years, it takes a couple years for the picks to develop. Building the UFA does not work. Even retools take 3 years minimum, and thats on teams that actually have a core to retool around. I think we may be competitive in year 3 but thats optimistic. and Sharagovich will be almost 30 then

He's 26 going into this season. By the time we are competitive again, he will be 29-30 and no longer on a cheap contract. He's a strong complimentary piece but he's not a core or elite player. He's the exact type of player to sell high on and get back players and prospects who will be in their prime in 3-5 years.
