Mal für ganz Dumme: Für was braucht man eine Kanalentlüftung und wieso baut man das direkt neben einem bewohnten Bereich hin? Braucht es alle hundert Meter so einen Schacht oder wie ist das)

While this is the definition of "moving a file", many OSes (Apple Ones, Windows) make a copy if the target is a cloud provider or some other kind of external storage and do keep the original file in place.

One „problem“ might be that they use file specific encryption keys.* So the app has to generate a new one for every picture.

*AFAIK it‘s necessary in order to enable the share function.

Thanks for the reply, is it enough to just disable local network access or do I explicitly have to enable the kill switch option in order to protect against Local Net atttacks?

Thank you very much for the reply. You aren't telling me about the guy with the red lightsaber because you think I should watch it myself, am I right?

Bringing up an old topic: Tunnelvision and ProtonVPNDiscussion

Hello folks

I recently stumbled upon a few sources that mentioned the (already known) vulnerability existent in many VPNs especially on iOS. Proton's advice back in the day, where the news was still hot from the press (about a year ago), was to enable Kill Switch on Apple devices in order to mitigate the "LocalNet" part of the Tunnelvision vulnerability.

Now I wonder, shouldn't it be sufficient to just disable LAN access? Although I'm by no means an expert oder developer of any sorts obviously.

(The reason I ask is because kill switch renders many important features of iDevices useless, such as AirDrop, Continuity and so on.)

what‘s the comic-like picture in image number 4?

And the guy (?) with something, I assume to be a red lightsaber?

Nein.* Erhöhte Abnutzung? Vielleicht.

*Sofern du nicht mit 100 km/h auf dem Randstein aufkommst natürlich.

It's not false per se. Extensions do lower the security of the browser. Security-wise, it would probably be best to stick to "default" password managers like the iCloud Keychain (apart from the fact that it is borderline useless). On the other hand, (some) desktop browsers store the data unencrypted on the disk. (Basically in the _temp folder ;)). Which arguably isn't very helpful either, is it?

Always use /s on this kind of posts please, otherwise there will be battles and wars fought over the battery life on betas. 😂

It can‘t. And that‘s the whole benefit of a sandbox. All functionalities used by Proton apps already rely on APIs anyway. So, they don‘t even use the freedom provided by a lack of sandboxing.

Sorry, I meant it as a joke. I didn‘t presume you were actually the driver.

Finally! I dgaf about Apple Intelligence or whatever it‘s called, I just wanted a working calculator.

New macOS app: Missing sandbox entitlementFeature request

Hi

First, let me tell you that I‘m very happy that we now have an app for macOS and I appreciate the effort that went into it.

On the other side, I‘m observing some oversights the team might have made. Both the Proton Pass and Mail app are lacking the (for distribution outside the Mac App Store voluntary) sandbox entitlement. Both the VPN and the drive application have enabled the sandbox and I currently do not see a reason why a sandbox would interfere with the operation of a mail and password manager application.

Sandboxing an application is now more relevant than ever. Starting with macOS Sonoma, the app sandbox now also protects sandboxed applications from access of other apps. Previously, a sandbox is more known to protect the rest of the system from the app in the sandbox.

I hope the dev team takes that into account.

Although I think it's important to save life, I would have never done that myself. I would have called 911 or the respective local emergency number, but touching a snake? Nope

Uh oh, we‘ve already taken that route at one point in history…
