Interesting article quoting the editor of VPR and the split screen flashback ending. She says this isn’t the end of the show but the end of the version of the show where they can’t not acknowledge the show and the fame any longer.

I love the show but honestly think it’s time to pull the plug. I feel like it’s just run its course, the cast is no longer struggling young actors, a few of them are parents, and it hasn’t been the same since Stassi left anyway. JMO.

Stassi certainly had her issues and shortcomings but she gave great TV. I think the plan was to groom Lala into the same role but Lala doesn’t have any of Stassi’s charisma or insight, even at Stassi’s worst moments.

I think they could try doing one meta season as a kind of experiment in reality tv. I think it could be interesting and someone should do it at some point so why not them? A lot of these shows start off around a theme (working in a restaurant/boat/whatever) and then the fact they get famous and have people online judging them all the time influences their behaviour a lot and eventually the shows seem silly when they keep trying to pretend the show itself isn’t a massive part of their lives.

It might not work but I definitely think they should try and VPR seems the best show at the moment to try it with.

That would be something new. I’d definitely be interested in a meta version, could be actually more real. They actually get back to reality by stepping through the looking glass

I think Jersey Shore did this really well. They’d bring in producers to so many scenes, talk about things that happened online in the show, show fan tweets, show the crowds outside the house and shop. They’re ridiculous now but the show always seemed to play with the “we know they’re famous” trope well.
