Greece in September is absolutely the best time to visit. It’s warm but not overly hot, and the tourists are gone!
Tell me a place that you love visiting (or live in) and the best month to visit! I’ll start:
QuestionAgreed!! Just went there in Mid-May. It rained a bit but was still gorgeous
I love Japan any time of year except June to September. Way too hot and humid. Otherwise it's magical. Fall has the leaves, winter has snow and tons of cozy stuff like onsen, ramen, and matcha. Spring has Sakura blossoms and fair weather.
Is Japan in autumn not crazy crowded?
It’s crazy crowded all the time in Tokyo. Haven’t really noticed crowds in autumn outside of Tokyo, aside from a few of the well known Mt Fuji viewing areas and resort towns.
Even in Tokyo, it's only crowded on the main streets of "tourist places" like Asakusa and Shibuya, and inside the station at the major rail hubs like Shibuya, Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Shinagawa. Otherwise it's actually a remarkably calm city. I enjoy escaping to the side streets and walking through random neighborhoods there.
Japan is by far one of the most beautiful places that if I got back to, I’d provably die at. Not to sound morbid but it’s like another world. Was stationed there in the Navy for two years. It has everything. Warm summers. Cold snowy winters. Decent beaches and sunsets. A mountain. Good food and culture. Safety. EVERY-FUCKING-THING.
Agreed, it’s the closest thing we have to heaven on Earth in my opinion.
I’ve been to Scandinavia too and Sweden is the only place that comes close to Japan imo.
I need to make it to Sweden. Bucket list vibes for sure.
Yeah definitely, if you like Japan you’ll probably love Sweden. Obviously very different countries but they both have that kinda peaceful, nature meets urbanization vibe with good high quality food, great transit, and great public safety.
Fall in New England rent a cabin in the mountains maybe even over looking the sea, nice cool hoodie weather is my favorite. Go hiking, fishing, sailing, camp fires. Then spend a weekend in Boston or NYC
Any particular places you recommend? My partner and I would love to do a New England road trip one fall 🍁
Check out acadia national park. My wife has been “glamping” up there and really liked it
If you start in CT take 15 up and keep following the scenic highways into Maine. Beautiful.
Chicago in summer is magical! Also Italy in early October (aside from Rome) had great weather and a manageable level of crowds.
Chicago in summer? Really? I remember when I lived there, it was so humid and I couldn’t stand the summers!
It’s not hot if you compare it to the entire south and most of the east coast but it varies, some summers are hotter than others, they’ve been mild lately with some intense short peaks.
Also the lakefront is a good 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit cooler.
Yeah I’m not a humid person, I love dry heat though!
Summer is great in Chicago because there are so many events but personally I prefer September and October. Still plenty of things to do, fewer crowds because students are back in school and great weather.
You are not wrong
What’s wrong with Rome in October?
It was extremely hot and extremely crowded. It’s probably worse during summer but I struggled.
Average temps look excellent for Rome in October. Maybe you just got unlucky. Crowding of course is expected in a city like Rome, right?
Average temps are supposed to be like 20 right? That’s what we planned for our spain, france and italy trip and then it was about 25-30 C everywhere and we went to the beach everywhere, Rome specifically was 31 or something and extremely sunny.
I think my issue with Rome was that the streets were super small for the volume of people? Barcelona was also super crowded but it didn’t feel annoying as Rome.
Ya 25-30 can be pretty uncomfortable. Climate change is real.
South of Spain (Andalusia) in Sept/October (and even early) Nov is great! .
April-ish is great for Seville due to La Feria.
Hotels become $$$ during the holidays, though...
I like april for the orange blossoms
Montreal in Summer is wonderful, The green machinery of the trees sucking up the sunshine and joyous residents celebrating their freedom after a long hard winter, evenng laughter at festivals, languid hungover breakfasts and the smell of the river.
Just got back from my long Canada Day weekend in Montreal, loved it! Temperatures, greenery, and food were all perfect.
I loved Greece in September! The island hotels were pretty inexpensive compared to what I was expecting and the weather was gorgeous.
Yup! And you can still swim!
The west coast of Mexico from December to March. Great weather and whale watching! My preference is Puerto Vallarta.
There now. It’s okay but the rains bring water down the mountain and the ocean is mud. At least for about 100 meters out. But still a great place and lots to see, do, and eat. https://ibb.co/R7Rb3zQ https://ibb.co/2YJcYnj
Portugal in September. Perfect weather and smaller crowds.
How’s it in November?
Haven't been there myself in November. But from what I understand it's a little colder with a greater chance of rain, especially in the north.
San Francisco in October.
Scotland in early fall. Honestly I’ve been in all the seasons and each has their own. But September and early October the midges are gone, still have a considerable amount of daylight and the fall colors are gorgeous.
Minneapolis or Chicago in the summer. Please note: SUMMER.
Chicago in summer is sooo humid!
June and July is best. August is when it’s more humid and likely to get a heat wave.
Have you tried it in February?
I have! Too cold! LOL. I lived there for four years!
No it’s not, it’s fine
That’s your opinion!
As is yours!
Yup! Lived there for 4 years
People who think Chicago is too hot in the summer generally fit into the class of fragile people who are perpetual whiners and don’t actually enjoy going outside and doing anything. Not saying that’s you, but it’s an educated guess.
I prefer dry heat since that’s what I grew up in.
Yosemite or Yellowstone after the first heavy storm of winter. Nobody there but the hearty and it is before beautiful.
Vancouver BC in summer. Perfection! ☀️Very little rain.
Switzerland in December for the holiday markets and rooftop thermal bath.
Mexico in December <333
Depends where. Central Mexico is freezing during Christmas time
that’s around where i go lol it’s not freezing
Monte Carlo during spring
I LOVED Amsterdam in October and Seattle in late April. Both were perfect almost winter but not really weathers. Not too hot, perfect in a long sleeve and jeans but no need for another jacket. It was also not too crazy with rain! (I do however love the cold and the rain as I went to Dublin in November and had the best time ever)
Second for Amsterdam in October!!
Paso Robles CA, where I live, in November. Cool, crisp air and generally before our rain starts. Also avoids the summer crowds.
May transforms Warsaw into a masterpiece. It's stunningly beautiful.
The boundary waters canoe area wilderness, with a few days on Lake Superior for that inland sea energy, in Minnesota in July. Take bug spray.
Colorado mountain towns in July. Gorgeous, green, wildflowers in bloom. Paradise. Faves include Crested Butte, Grand Lake, Breckenridge, Ouray, Telluride.⛰️🌻🌸🌺🏞️🚵🏼♀️
Michigan US in late September and early October. I have a million pictures with bright red and yellow trees and every year add new ones.
Seattle in September. Kids are back in school. Days are still long and gorgeous. It's possible to get reservations again after the early summer bump.
Iceland in January is truly beautiful. Layer up and get over there!
Edit: typo
Washington DC. I live here now, but it's always magical here during spring when the cherry blossoms are out and the city/government buildings plant fresh flowers throughout the city.
Ireland, early spring/late autumn: the west coast isn’t overrun with tourists, and the weather plays tricks with the landscape. It’s beautiful, unsettling, unnerving. Love it.
San Juan Islands in April.
Brazil from December to March. It’s summer and you can enjoy the beautiful beaches. March is less crowded and cheaper. Guatemala is spectacular. Please don’t skip Guatemala City, it’s fun! January is the best time to visit. Cuba: Cayo Santa Maria is a paradise. March is a wonderful time to visit. My country : Canada is unbelievable beautiful. My favourite time of the year is fall. Driving from Banff to Jasper is magical . So many lakes , I can go on and on. Mexico is magical. Yucatan peninsula with turquoise beaches, Mexico City with amazing museums. Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa… too many places!
Finland, ever month apart from November
Osaka in December. Loved everything about it. Christmas everywhere and was able to wear my nice petticoat, I live in CA so I don’t get the chance here.
Kathmandu in October and November. The weather is really pleasant, and you can often see great mountain views. Plus the two biggest holidays (Dashain and Tihar) come around this time.
Carmel By The Sea.....it's magical anytime. But don't go during pebble beach golf tournament , or concourse car show weeks.
Kyiv in May, completely covered in greenery and blooms.
Southern costal California in mid September the beaches are hot and sunny, the water is the warmest it’s going to get and the kids are back to school so not as crowded.
Hungary in October. Beautiful.
Berlin in either early June or October is beautiful
Iceland in September is great. Not as crowded as summer but still decent weather. Can also see Northern Lights at this time.
New York in November - the colours are wow ! This autumn vibe in New York hits different ! ❤️
Bosnia & Herzegovina in July
Switzerland in May
San Diego in December.
Laos especially Luang Prabang in June is serene. Maybe I got lucky with the rain though
Isla Mujeres, an island in Mexico of the coast of Cancun. It is not very big, it will take you 1 hour to drive around, but it has a lot of hidden gems. You can come any time.
Paris in late April/early May!
The Algarve in September
I am desperate to go there! Super underrated!!
I’m Greek and I tell my parents all the time I gotta visit my cousins in Armenia!
Ireland in March was quite nice and super green. It misted/rained almost every day, but I loved exploring the castles/ruins on foggy, rainy days plus it was never too hot or cold to be outdoors.
London from May-October. Christmas in London is nice too
Southern Guatemala, North East Belize, North Central Honduras and East El Salvador. I roam around this area a lot, every year. It is just amazing.
What time of year?
Doesn't matter.
I’m backpacking through here now! In Guatemala, do you have any recommendations?
Yes...go to Las Guacamayas...in north west corner. And hike to El Peru (ruins like Tikal, but completely unexplored). There is a research lodge there to stay. It's amazing, it's near a village called Paso Cavallo.
Amazing, thanks for those!
The other option is go find Quetzal bird...stay by Biotopo de Quetzal...I stayed at a lodge in the park. Really fantastic.
Slovenia in early May. Absolutely stunning.
