I am a mid main and I always give my top laner last pick. I recently decided to try playing top lane so I made a new account. Almost very other match whoever is last pick on my team doesn't give me last pick and gets combative. I don't understand why.
In soloq people trust their own ability to carry and not others. So they want to hold their pick to pick what they consider gives them best chances of winning. In higher elos u will not have this problem
The higher the elo the more important it s to give top last pick. In masters+ its and should be unplayable in counterpick assuming apropiate skill of both toplaners. Just tell me how a GM Malphite can win vs GM Sylas? (He can't, just pray your team is better).
That is possibly the worst matchup though
why would a gm top blind pick malph. and why wouldnt he ban sylas in that case. That's 2 mistakes already
Oh God you won t belive what mistakes are made even at a higher levels. There are dmb mistakes but they are less. Just watch top players games and you will be blown up of the picks. The higher the elo the higher the ego and they don't use every single advantage they could have. I asure you that rank 1 Riven will take her into Malphite just cus she has an ap mid or supp.
Malphite doesn’t actually lose to sylas in lane, build a negatron and he doesn’t have enough mana to trade or kill you. It’s just after lane he takes ur ult and nukes your team. Nemesis has a video about it
True, its t not the lane, it s worse. You put the best ult in the game paired with a good kit. Malphite has a terrible kit for AP but an insane ultimate, that s why he shines. Pair that with an actually good ap fighter and it s a recepy for disaster.
Taric has the best ult in the game, but yeah.
Yeah but realistically the skill levels are never completely equal even in higher levels of play. Pro players win in counter matchups all the time and there are champs you can pick without extremely polarising matchups if you get blueside or aren’t able to lastpick on red for whatever reason
True but in most cases counterpicking it s so so sht to play in as the weak side. You can be master and get demolishes as Kayle by an Emerald Darius and there s nothinf you can do. The more we look at otps the more this things happen. For the longest time we as a Sett mains couldn't pick him if Jax was open and strong for example. If the Jax was good for example you could just pray he won t get to freeze. And there are a lot of examples like this. The best example in skill level of play is why do you think Kata will never in this life see proplay? Cus she is the worst champ in the game by far no laning phase and she just punishes mistakes, she doesn t have the kit to win fights vs good players. Champ select it s a skill on it s own and people need to learn how to use it AS A TEAM. Sadly soloq its "SOLO CLIMBING IN A TEAM BASED GAME" and even a Yuumi mid can win in Challenger vs Pantheon mid cus as you said teams are never equal sadly. But on a fundamental level, Pantheon should have 100% wr vs some popular picks as Katarina above Emerald.
Darius has a negative winrate into Kayle in emerald+, this is what I mean. Players below challenger barely even know what matchups are good for them unless they’re told by a higher elo player. Even then, I’m 100% certain that you’ve lost good matchups 1v1 before. Why do you give more respect to the enemy than you do to yourself?
Sure if you accept that your current skill level is equal to the opponent’s then you’re going to lose bad matchups, but the vast majority of them are at least playable if you’re better. If you happen to run into an otp Smurf then tough luck, happens but if I see a blind Riven and the Mordekaiser main locks Renekton because he’s heard it’s a counter I’m betting on the Riven.
I do like to have counterpick, I don’t like to be counterpicked, of course. But it’s not as game ending as this sub likes to say, people just need to stop bitching, stop focusing so hard on the enemy champ’s average winrate against yours, and just play better if you want to win
Its not game ending, i ve won myself some impossible matchups but got curb stomped in some free ones. Thats all players. But assuming just champs Darius should never lose vs Kayle ever foe example, that winrate it s just the proof anything is possible cus most of the lol players are bad. There is always room for improvement but counterpicking it s an existing advantage and a good one for sure. You need to assume the enemy is at least your level and do your best always.
