I hope I don’t get flamed for this. But I view steak like whiskey. I love my whiskey neat, and my steak with SPG rare or medium rare.
But I don’t judge how anyone else likes their steak. The best steak and whiskey is the way you love to have it prepared.

I grew up poor as shit, and realized that using ketchup on everything was a byproduct of growing up poor.
I don't judge anyone that uses common condiments on everything. I'm still known to do it here and there too.

As much as I’ve come to love a good medium rare steak, I still occasionally enjoy well done with ketchup like when I was growing up.
I thought I just didn't like steak or burgers or roast beef as a kid because my mom cooked everything beyond well done. Everything was gray and dry and I had to coat it in ketchup to choke it down. Once I grew up and started cooking for myself I realized why I didn't like all those foods growing up. But I'll be damned if every once in a while I don't mind ketchuping up an overdone piece of meat.
This is why McDonald's has happy meals, and a play land, and mascot characters.. create a positive, nostalgic, pavlovian response to their shit food and you'll eat it for life.

They did, and I think had a lot to do with them coming under fire years ago for the very tactics I referred to. They have since tried to look less exploitive by backing off of the blatant conditioning and customer grooming that used to go on. When hawking unhealthy food to children became less acceptable a lot of companies tried to switch up their image. It used to be everywhere, I remember thinking that Joe Camel was pretty damn cool when I was a kid..
This is 100% true with the caveat as long as they've tried it unadulterated. There are lots of people who autopilot or copy the way they first had it, etc. They may not know what they're missing out on and need a nudge to try it.
But the nudge should not be judgy or forced, and if they want to go back to their way after trying unadulterated then that should be the end of it. The tone should be "helping to explore", not "correcting an error".

Do a half step...A1 mixed with ketchup 50/50...also I'm obligated to recommend Great Value steak sauce as the only difference is its thinner while I can get it at the dollar store not for fucking $7 for a 10oz bottle.
Try thickening your GV A1 steak sauce with a cornstarch slurry. Spoonful of cornstarch and enough water to hold the cornstarch in suspension. A whisk or fork is recommended for chasing down lumps.
if you've got a mesh strainer pour the cornstarch down the strainer and pat it on top of the liquid while stirring
it'll break down any clumps before it touches the liquid
Make sure the mixture is room temperature before sifting the corn starch. This is an unnecessary step thar makes me feel like a big fancy gourmet chef.

Look at the label, she's using Heinz's Simply. It doesn't have any added sugar.
Perhaps she doesn't like foods that aren't sweet (naturally or artificially). Steak normally isn't supposed to be sweet.

I don’t use A1 on my own steaks but the Army steaks we get that are hard as rocks NEED ketchup or A1. Be chewing it down for an hour.

Its just sugar and some acid for flavor, OP. No need to give her away. Ketchup pH is around 3.6/3.7 if I remember correctly. Sometimes I’ll have a TINY bit of Worcestershire, A-1 or Heinz 57 on the side…just for fun. And I mean tiny, not drowning my awesome meat in that stuff.

Needs crust, must cook it in fat. If you grill, usually bland and needs a sauce like Bernaise, au poive, or even ketchup!

I'd be a bit more concerned by what looks like a complete lack of salt, pepper, or any other type of seasoning. It makes my mouth sad, since the filet otherwise looks quite good.

I've been on the restaurant kitchen "under"world for over 20 years including some time in high end butcher shops and have learned that people's preferred taste is nothing to question or try to change!!! I don't get it either, even ketchup on a burger is questionable. To each their own taste but get the chuck eyes and save $$$$$
