But I suppose that's not the case. If you have a Rolex, it is assumed that you have your finances under control, including ensuring a good future for your children. At least it should be that way, otherwise it's irresponsible to spend $10,000 on a toy.
It is also clear that the person's ego is involved, but I firmly believe in the sincerity of a father who buys a watch with the aim of passing it on to his son and who hopes to add sentimental value to the item.

Hard disagree. I too own multiple luxury watches. Some of which I bought with the express purposes of passing them down. One of which I already gifted him on his 18th, the other is a birth year Pepsi that he will get when I die. Along with other watches, but he knows which ones are “individual” and which ones are nice watches. Not EVERY watch is like that, but some certainly are. It’s not all “bull shit” mental gymnastics.

I did the same for my boy, and had the AD sell it the day of- I prepaid the value and called that day to officially buy it back is engraved too with his DOB. Congratulations!

I was told it had to be done by Rolex for warranty- fine by me. The store arranged it all. Honestly couldn’t have gone smoother. Such a great gift ( I think) My boy better like watches!
