I think it may be Taylor Swift, I don’t really know. what do you guys think?
I think they already named Madonna as Queen of Pop.
Edited
Madonna is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Regarded as the "Queen of Pop".
Madge immediately came to my mind too.
I thought your name was Pudge
Not it's madge, its always been madge
Yep, she stayed relevant for decades.
I could see it changing though. Taylor definitely has the fan base that if we look back in 50 years that she'd have had more popularity to dethrone Madonna.
Madonna, no doubt 100 %
Madonna
Madonna. There is no dispute
Papa Don't Preach
Yeah definitely not taylor swift
Not Yet.
I was trying to think of one but this is def it
Eveyone knows it's Elton John
That's Sir Elton John to you, Mister.
Mister Sir Elton John, if ya nasty
Uncle Mr. Big concurs.
Sr. El Ton Juan
Si eres una desagradable
Coffee came out of my nose. Cheers mate
Whitney Houston was the first name that came to mind for me.
Whitney Houston is soul music.
She sang pop, soul, gospel, and dance-pop. She definitely sang pop music.
Popular but def NOT pop
Madonna
I was supposed to say Madonna but yeah definitely Madonna
Madonna
Madonna
Hell no it is not Taylor Swift
Why not, other than new music bad old music good xd? Personally I’d say Debby Harry.
If anything she is the princess of pop, but Madonna is the queen. It's not just popularity and record sales, it's also time frame and cultural impact. Madonna was the queen when there was no real royalty at the time
Because Taylor Swift has exactly 0 good songs? She's the queen of radio garbage that children like, but I'd rather listen to fucking baby shark than any Taylor Swift song.
Whitney
Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Madonna
Whitney's title is "the Voice".
Whitney is more soul than pop
I think you should think this over and ask yourself why you made that assessment.
I feel like you've never once listened to a Whitney Houston song based on this statement.
I've listened to plenty, she was poppy, but not pure pop, she had lots of different influences going on, including soul, gospel, r and b, and pop. Madonna was more just pure pop
Definitely Madonna
Madonna
To me it’s Madonna. She was untouchable at her peak and was very different from the rest of the women, by far the bravest and with an actual spine to talk about other issues, not like dance, love, sorrow and what not.
I think the only reason I might disagree with you is recent history. It used to be that whenever she opened her mouth I was riveted by what she said, but for a while now, I don't see the same status-quo-challenging icon in her; sometimes quite the opposite.
She has obviously struggled with aging -- somehow I suppose I expected her to rock the crone vibe and I would have been happy to see that, just the latest in a string of "fuck yous" to the patriarchy -- but instead she got that bad BBL, hides behind filters, and sometimes the stuff she posts makes her seem like she's lost touch with reality a bit. She's fallen off, and I think I feel bad for her.
I don't know who I'd suggest in her place, either.
It’s definitely not Taylor, she’s not even next in line for the crown. She needs to wait for Madonna, Cher, Britney, Janet, Mariah, Christina, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Pink, Celine, Katy and JLo to die before she takes the throne.
Sorry, but it's Madonna. I'm not even a fan of that genre of music but I respect that her songs were catchy and she was pushing boundaries and taking risks.
However I would recommend for fans of those two to at least try Joni Mitchell and see if you don't think that's better. Or, if you're looking for something more contemporary try Mikaela Davis; a harp player who cut her teeth on Dead music, or St VIncent.
Look this up on Youtube. Mikaela Davis - Leave it Alone & Pure Divine Love (Live on KEXP).
Those aren't even remotely the same genre. Joni Mitchell is more blues and folk.
Taylor swift is not it. She's not even that great. I don't think she's unique in looks, style, singing voice, or songs in general. She can be copied easily. I think Madonna is queen of pop. Maybe even PINK.
Pink definitely has that powerful vibe that is just needed to be a queen of pop. Her music is just "louder" in my opinion, there's a power in her words. I'd say Madonna is queen of pop, and PINK is the crown princess (next in line if that's not how you say it)
Taylor however is indeed very easily copied. Her newest album literally includes a song that feels very much like JoJo Siwa's "song"
I think it’s either Madonna or Cyndi Lauper.
I love Cindy Lauper
Lady Gaga is basically both of them in the same body.
Madonna
Madonna
Madonna is dubbed queen for decades, second only to madonna would be Beyoncé. And no offense I don't like Beyoncé but she has definitely taken stepping into the role of queen over once Madonna slowed down.
Beyonce definitely takes 2nd place over Taylor Swift.
Madonna?
It's Brittney bitch
Madonna
Michael Jackson
Lmao
Queen of pop has always been Madonna.
Taylor is coined the queen of Easter eggs....so serious
Taylor Swift is really only popular with her own fan base. I don't really know any of her music other than her really early stuff and maybe I am mixing that up with Avril Lavigne. The Jackson 5 were universally known like the beatles and Queen. Michael was a phenomenon.
I think Madonna maybe is still the queen of pop but she is souring her own milk at the minute.
Isn’t it that Madonna is the queen, Britney is the princess, and there is no prince?
People will hate me for saying it but the answer is Justin Bieber.
Bieber is the child of pop... You know, the child that no one wanted
LMAOO but hey he does make great pop music and had a significant cultural impact!!
Who do you think is the prince of pop?
Cultural impact yes great music no
I think he made some of the best pop hits of both the late 2000s and 2010s! Anyone else you think would be better suited to be the prince of pop?
Britney Spears
Madonna
Janet or Madonna
Cher
At this point, I would say Madonna.
There are a lot of good artists, but she survived decades hit after hit. another one is Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, and now Taylor Swift. These are all women that have had multiple hits. Another one was Cher
Madonna during the era of Michael Jackson, but modern day? Definitely taylor swift
Madonna.
Taylor Swift, holy shit. Compare her catalog to Madonna's, and... just holy shit.
Fuck, compare Cyndi Lauper to Taylor, even... Cyndi was and remains self aware and very insightful.
Madonna
Madonna
Madonna
Madonna
Historically, Madonna.
Madonna was given that title awhile ago
Madonna
Madonna.
Queen. Madonna.
Princess? Kylie.
Freddie Mercury
Like all the other commenters are saying, it's Madonna.
You have to frame this within the context of MJs reign, and as the king of pop then, Madonna was absolutely the queen of pop.
It's silly to compare Taylor Swift now to MJ then. Makes no sense. You'd want to find a more recent male counterpart for the comparison, just as you require an older female counterpart for the MJ/king of pop comparison.
If you need to perceive Taylor Swift in that way, her closest male counterpart would prob be Ed Sheeran.
They could be the prince and princess
It was Madonna, and it still is Madonna, for some reason.
Also Michael Jackson
Hee hee
Y'all missed the obvious answer: Tina Turner
She is the Queen of Rock n roll
It was Madonna up to early 2000’s then her reign came to an end, but nobody seems to have notified her.
Sade.
I love Sade but she sadly faded away after the 80s
Debby Harry.
Maria Carey?
Marcia Hines /s
I see your Madonna and I raise you a Cher
That would be Michael Jackson as well
Joakim Brodén
Michael was/is king because everyone knew his songs/style...and most had at least a song or two that they liked. And you couldn't go anywhere in the 80s without hearing his music.
Taylor has a passionate fan base, but her appeal isn't nearly as broad in society as a whole. She's more of a duchess: ruler over a limited area.
It's probably Madonna by default. Britney could've taken the crown if she lasted longer, but she didn't. Adele or Gaga have a case, but they aren't broad enough either. To be fair it's harder to have a society-wide impact in the 2020s compared to the 80s.
Debbie Harry
tina turner
Madonna or Beyoncé
Does Madonna still have her fake British accent? 😂
My first thought was Cher
Christina Aguilera
Was Whitney Huston a queen or princess?
Didn't Lady Gaga get called that?
I’ve always heard it was Whitney Houston but here people are saying it’s Madonna?
Nah it’s Whitney
Ariana grande
Nah you’re kidding right?
Haaaaaaaaaaaa Taylor. You're adorable.
It's Madonna. She was crowned in, like, the 90's. You crazy kids.
Alicia Keys is the best female vocalist in the history of forever. Beyoncé is number two. I will die on that hill.
Probably Whitney Huston
He is.
If one mf says Beyonce i swear
Madonna, no question, hands down.
It's not Madonna anymore. It was Madonna until Taylor Swift stayed so consistently popular for so long and is recently started breaking Madonna's records. If she stopped now I could see an arguement for Madonna, but there's no indication that Taylor Swift's release schedule or popularity will slow anytime soon.
People stuck on Madonna will continue to say she's the queen of pop even if Taylor Swift stays this popular for another decade, or two, or three. Many people simply can't change their mind once it's decided.
Freddie Mercury 🤣🤣🤣
Aretha. Queen of everything
Michael Jackson was the one who decided he was the "king of pop." Either Michael himself or a publicist working on his behalf (forget which) actually called MTV and demanded they refer to him that way, which is how it became a thing with media at the time. Kurt Loder refused to comply though, and would only refer to him as the "self-proclaimed king of pop." lol
Taylor swift is assss shut up please 🙏🏿
Madonna for sure. I might've said Tina Turner if you asked me a little over a year ago, but... You know...
Madonna
Tina Turner
Madonna
Also Michael Jackson
If Jackson IS the King the Madonna def still IS the Queen, based on record sales and general awareness.
britney
Diana Ross
Tina Turner
Madonna or Cher
Your mom
People saying Madonna as if she is still relevant. Kings can change, queens can change.
In the Michael Jackson era it was Madonna. Kings and queens come and go, with the exception of Michael for nomenclature alone.
Taylor Swift?! 😂😂😂 Oh, bless your heart..
Freddy Mercury
Madonna?
Madonna. I'm not a fan nor even like much pop music, but it's Madonna.
Brittany Spears
Lady Gaga
She surpassed Madonna long ago and Madonna even tried feuding with her just to embarrass herself by falling off the stage.
Gaga is a class act who can nail pop as well as jazz and classical.
Any man who must say, "I am the king" is no true king.
Beyonce
Madonna is recognized as the Queen of Pop.
Swift writes, produces, and performs her own work. Treats people with respect and has fun. She is an Empress of pop.
Gaga has a ton more talent than Madonna.
It's Britney, bitch.
Taylor Swift is sort of whiney. She could never be queen.
It's Madonna.
Nicki Minaj
Madonna, Ffs. Kids today.
Pepsi
Definitely Madonna! Taylor Swift doesn't even come close.
Also Michael Jackson
Cyndi Lauper
Ew.
Why ew other than misogyny?
Misogyny my butt. Complete and utter lack of talent.
Oh, I thought your ‘ew’ was a reaction to the Queen of pop idea and not Taylor.
Also Michael Jackson.
Beyoncé?
No nicki better
Stifler’s mom
Leon edwards
Historically -- that is, in roughly the time period as MJ -- it was Madonna.
More recent contenders would probably include Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Taylor.
However, as music has become less homogeneous and more niche and/or 'genre-ized'...
I think the argument for only being able to have one becomes less and less compelling.
For example, one could at least argue that Gaga is the queen of more artsy or avant-garde pop.
Man id delete this before Madonna sees it if I were you
Janet Jackson
Miss Jackson if you're nasty.
Nasty, nasty boys don't mean a thing
You know what's up
Kylie Minogue
Freddie mother fucking Mercury.
Good question my generation will say Brittany the generation before would say Madonna this generation will probably say Taylor
I thought MJ was the prince of pop not king.
No, Prince is obvi the prince of pop
Well fuck. If you google it, Justin Beiber is the top result.
I meant it in an ironic way but oki
He was promoted
Madonna was queen and Britney was the princess. I used past tense because I’m Not sure these days? Doesn’t seem right to call Taylor queen but don’t deny her impact and being the worlds biggest super star currently.
Female Michael Jackson
I'd choose his little sister.
I know that the status quo is that Madonna is the Queen of pop, but given the fact that she's less of an innovator and more of a trend follower at this point, his little sister takes the crown
JoJo
Whitney. Madonna. Kylie. Aretha. Barbara Streisand. Adele, Taylor swift. Lotsa contenders.
It's taylor swift. She's possibly going to have more #1 albums than the Beatles in time.
Swift supplanted Barbara Streisand as the woman with the most No. 1 albums; Streisand has 11 and Swift now has 12. Swift has the third-most No. 1 albums of any artist, behind Jay-Z (14) and the Beatles (19).
Madonna's promoter tried to get her and Michael to be a couple. Mj didn't want anything to do with her. 😅
