Hi all. Owner of a small virtual IP law firm here. We do mostly patent and trademark prep and prosecution with some counseling, enforcement, and a bit of litigation thrown in. We’re looking to hire a top-notch paralegal to help us build the firm. I envision the right candidate taking on the role of a project/office manager and docketing too.
From the perspective of you paralegals, what are the key skills and attributes of a truly standout person for this roll? How do you think a potential employer like myself could best determine if a candidate possesses those attributes/qualities during the interview process?
Long time senior IP paralegal here: It is hard to answer this question without a clear job description(s) and some understanding of how heavy the workload(s) would be. Also, what salary do you have in mind for this “top-notch” person?
Honestly and respectully, I immediately balked at the idea of expecting one person to fill these three separate and distinct roles.
