Something about the bright, washed out colors contrasting with the harsh shadows of the background just feels unnerving. Couple that with the fact that you’re not supposed to see these rides like this, and it all just feels uncanny.
Imagine being on the ride, and the guy in front of you won’t stop taking pictures with the flash on?
I've been stuck on the pirates ride with a lady taking flash photos. My wife and I both politely asked her to stop (1 since it's against the rules, and 2 cuz it kept blinding us). She ignored us, so we started to put our hands in the way of her photos (making sure not to touch her or her camera). She started getting all upitty and yelling at us for ruining her photos, and we kept telling her to just turn her flash off. She got all entitled and was freaking out on us, saying all sorts of shit. My wife and I kept calm and just kept saying just turn your flash off, that it was blinding us and it's against the rules anyways. She pulled over a staff member to us when we got off the ride, and we told them what happened. We got fast tracked back to the front of the line to go again, got free photos, and they profusely apologized about the incident. That lady and her family got escorted out of the area. Not sure if they kicked her and her family out of the park or not. But the look on that lady's face when they told us that they were going to get us right back on the ride and that she wasn't allowed back on for "ruining her photos" was priceless
Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear Mickey Mouse costumes.
Theres videos of people urbex exploring when the rides shut down that go as far back as 1998 I think. I at first thought thats what these were
I like the creepy pastas about it. Some people getting stuck or riding hundreds of times with their photos taken and saved, only being seen by the photo developer person
There was a great creepypasta about like an abandoned jungle themed Disneyland park, it was SO GOOD!
ETA I’ll see if I can find a link!
I like that one until it gets to
I don't know why but that spoils it for me.
I think the photo negative Mickey is funny honestly. It is a little scary if you think about it, but at the same time...whoever wrote it had some fnaf brainrot.
That creepypasta scared the shit out of me when I first read it! It's such a great horror concept.
It was one of the first ones I ever read and I LOVED IT! My daughter’s obsessed with Disney and all things creepy so I’m excited to show it to her too!
Any you could share?
Have we read the “I work security at Disney World…well I mean I did” on r/nosleep? One of the best stories I’ve read on Reddit, let me try to link it
Not yet but I will now!
I retell it all the time. Super chilling and realistic. Let me know what you think!
wow, that was terrifying. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed!! Definitely spooky and well told!
The only terrifying part is imagining being on the same boat with whatever total dickhead did this.
I thought the same thing. What a prick
That's exactly the first thought that came to my mind when I saw these pictures. That person ruined the ride for the other people.
Waah
Edgyboi is edgy.
Waaah
Even worse is that photo #7 is an animatronic show
Came here to say this
bet everyone on the ride with the person who took these photos absolutely loved getting flashed by the light of the camera.
Imagine waiting in line for an hour for someone to do this. I hope they at least did it when it wasn’t busy…
I hope so too. It would be one thing if these were taken by cast members when nobody else was around, but it’s another thing for some random Joe to go in when a bunch of other people are on the ride with him.
Considering every single attraction asks you to refrain from flash photography. Whoever took these, you suck.
Some of those skeletons look real
I heard some of them are lmao
I heard it from that other guy
I also heard it from the other guy but not that other guy your thinking of
From what I recall a lot of the used to be but now pretty much all of them except I think a skull embedded in a headboard have been replaced
It has also been replaced.
Weak. I’ll donate my skeleton to disney land when I die
Yea me too
Some of them used to be.
Goofy had a dark side. But let's not go there.
Oh shit
That fucking snow white witch traumatized me as a kid
Same, scariest ride I’ve been on. Sent my sister and I home in tears.
Worst thing is, you don’t expect it either. That ride is the introduction of jump scares for kids way too young to go through it
Dude me too. Went there in I think ‘96 and was traumatized for the rest of the vacation. I still remember being in the ride and trying to climb down into the seat and huddle at the bottom where you put your feet 💀
For a second I thought the Captain Sparrow was the real Johnny Depp
That is the real Johnny Depp
Can’t wait for people on TikTok to steal the photos and insist that these are real people who were plasticized
That would have been FAR scarier.
he has actually stood in for the animatronic at this ride a few times
For the record, I am strongly against doing this in the parks. I’m only bringing up the pictures themselves because I find them intriguing, but this should not be seen as encouragement for anyone to do this. Don’t ruin other people’s experience all because you wanted to take a picture in a Disney ride.
Just google "Disney rides with house lights on". Lots of footage of the rides when the lights had to be turned on for some reason or another (emergencies, malfunctions, etc).
Examples:
Space Mountain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vdLCgeRpkM
Haunted Mansion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XERSioIacvY
Holiday Haunted Mansion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ocvfBX_4Jc
Peter Pan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBSjGg4Cp-c
Rock n Roller: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgdSdtruzU0
Pirates of the Caribbean: https://youtu.be/zpPqHgYEVwY?si=eIuXCdx1dC_jOO_5&t=410
Tower of Terror: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_AUcP-UNoc
Last year, Space Mountain broke down while I was on it with my son. We were halfway through the ride when it happened. The lights came on and we sat there for about 15 minutes before the ride continued with the lights still on. Let me tell you: That ride is truly terrifying when you're actually able to see everything around you. Many spots where it looks like you're about to get your head knocked off that you never even notice when the ride's working properly.
I was next in line late at night when it broke down. We booked it to the people mover and saw the whole thing lit up
yeah, that was the last roller coaster I put my hands up in. Used to freak me out because I could see in extremely low light when I was younger.
I had the same experience, everything is incredibly close.
Yeah, I quit riding with my hands up after we experienced a breakdown and saw the inside. We actually experienced multiple breakdowns at Disney and Universal on the same trip. We had to walk out of Peter Pan, ET, and Space Mountain with the lights on.
The small dark rides are the really fascinating one, IMO. Stuff like Peter Pan, with the lights on they look like trash carnival rides you'd pay $10 to regret riding at the state fair. It's honestly incredible what they are able to do with lighting and effects
You should see the newer versions of the classic rides, like over in Shanghai Disney. They're so much better. These rides in the stateside parks really need renovations, but as long as they keep making bank regardless, they won't feel like they need to bother.
I've seen videos of the Pirates of The Caribbean ride, and it's a whole different league. The part where the boats rise out of the water is soooo cool, and genuinely made me a little uncomfortable lol
I would have freaked out when I would be forced to drive in these. The thought of that makes me anxious. I remember Haunted Mansion. That ride lowkey traumatized me as a kid. Especially the last part where you're driving next to that freaking mirrors withe these skeletons. I wasn't able to ride in ghost rides for a long time and it still scares me. But damn is haunted Mansion good.
I understand why guests wouldn't want to be on the ride with the photographer, but I have a different view;
As someone who will likely never get to visit a Disneyland/ Disneyworld theme park, I've always been super interested in what these rides look like when they are being ridden.
These photographs, as frustrating as they are to the people who have to endure the guy taking them, are something I will never get to experience live, so I'm actually grateful to the photographers who took them.
Also, weirdly enough, I don't find them creepy. A little unusual, maybe. But not creepy.
Oh, hey, the demons from Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!
As interesting as it is to see these photos, all I'm imagining is how irritated the other guests must have been with the person taking flash photos on the rides.
Duff Beer for me, Duff Beer for you, I'll have a Duff, you have one too
"Bart, be quiet! Lisa, drink the water!"
“ give her these .. and then these .. then these”
“ mm thank you doctor “
“ oh I’m not a doctor .”
I am the lizard queen
Imagine falling in to the water with these things...
I dare you to drink it...
I just don’t like how dirty everything looks. It all looks like it has a patina of filth. 💀
I wonder what year this was. Some of these rides or at least two don’t exist at Disney World anyway. Maybe Disney Land?
These photos were all taken by different people from different periods in time. Some of them are from the 2000’s, and some of them go back as far as the 70’s.
Nice!!! 👍😁
I stood in line for haunted mansion for two hours in the pouring rain this past summer and the guy in front of me took flash photography the entire ride. Completely ruined it
A ride that's in the dark being spooky?!? No?!?
So incredibly odd amirite?
I love that the 9th photo is just a frog smoking. He better speaking " Yeah buddy! I be smoking my shit in here in the jungle, I got this from that turtle a few rivers away." In ribbits, of course.
My mom would do this crap on the dark rides. Irritated me to no end. Clearly states no flash photography and she couldn’t have cared less about it.
To calm some minds; these photos are likely taken on 'walk-through' events. Where they allow a hand full off people to walk through the ride while it's non operational and see the animatronics and techniques up close with a staff member who gives a sort of tour. I've done this multiple times (once in DL Paris (small world) and a few times in our local big fairytale theme park. How do you get into that? Be a giant theme park nerd, and fan clubs). These mostly happened before opening or after closing. Sometimes people sneak pictures on breakdowns, but then pictures are usually not allowed and I think flash photography would be stopped quickly, especially in Disney. So that's my most likely guess.
That would explain how some of the photos I’ve found have shown the animatronics up close in ways the ride wouldn’t normally allow.
Call me gullible but that Johnny Depp looks too human...
I miss Splash Mountain...
Me too, I just got back from Disney World and I was so sad just walking by it.
Good job following the rules
I wasn’t the one who took these photos. I don’t condone flash photography in these rides by any means, I’m just making an observation surrounding cases where people did this sort of thing.
Good to know, it’s why I did not add op. We never know unless someone say so.
Found the cop /s
Much, much worse
Whoever took these pics is the exact kind of person I hate
NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
Please
They're neat that's for sure
Nostalgia flashbacks
Ugh I hate it. + what a way to ruin the ride experience for others.
That actually looked like johnny depp standing there
Probably the only work that bozo can get these days...
I feel like I’ve been there before, maybe in my dreams.
Looks like it belongs in the backrooms lol
Snow White looked high as fuck.
Made me sad they’re re-doing small world
I agree with the asshole assessment
The bride is the worse one
I feel bad for the people who were just trying to enjoy their ride only for this person to turn the flash on
Hey, that’s Jack Sparrow
Kinda liminal spaceish.
Idk if its true or not but alot of people say these are real human skeletons soo
They’re not. They used to be (at Disneyland) but they’ve been replaced over the years with fake ones. However, there is one real human skull remaining that is attached to a headboard near the beginning of the ride at Disneyland.
Any time I see anything with Captain Jack Sparrow I get sad and angry. Like Disney doesn’t mind selling Jack Sparrow toys and having him in the theme park stuff but wouldn’t let Johnny Depp play the part HE created because of the allegations- which many of the allegations have been proven false WITH evidence.
It’s so dumb but that’s my take away with this. Disney shouldn’t use the character for gain if they weren’t willing to understand fully what happens instead of penalizing the actor without evidence.
Oh let it go. He won the case.
I am over it okay sheesh…
but honestly since we are privately talkin’ between me and you Intelligent _Quote823, I’m not really over it.
Uhhh
I’m sure the fellow riders loved you
racist frog. oops Disney you forgot that one
Haha what a dick They’re pretty clear about flash photos at Disney world
Only jackasses do this.
lmaoo they weren’t the one who took the photos
Jackass.
What a fucking prick
I would hate to be near you when you take these pictures. You completely and deliberately ruin the immersion for everyone just to fill your own selfish needs
I didn’t take these pictures. These were all found on Google. I’m strongly against doing this kind of stuff in the parks because it’s disrespectful to other patrons. I’m only showcasing these photos because I find them oddly terrifying, hence why I posted them here.
My apologies, then.
Not oddly terrifying at all but oddly stupid and rude af
I'm just wondering if snow white is going to do things with that apple like HKJ does. She is pulling up her skirt & the witch has an evil look in her eye. That might be normal for witches though.
weak
It cost in the neighborhood of $150+ per person just to go to Disneyland for one day. You're lucky if you get on each E-ticket ride like these once during that time.
And this piece of shit ruins it by taking flash photos, which they repeatedly tell you is forbidden. Simply because it ruins the dark ride for all of the other guests.
Congratulations asshole - you ruined everybody's day. I hope you get your arm caught in the "It's a Small World" river and lose it.
Eat shit fucker.
I didn’t take these photos, nor do I support people who do.
yohohohoho
Saved 10k browsing here. Ty lord
“M’KLVIN”
Can’t unsee it now.
This ride was creepy af
I have nightmares of being trapped in those scenes
Lol that brings me back. We went to Disney world when I was a kid, and we took flash photos in the haunted mansion 😂 definitely made it less magical lol
Number 13 is good
Wait until you see The Blazing Fury at Dollywood
Is that a peg leg in that pirate’s crotch? Lmao. Its the image with johnny depp in the barrel
That’s a map draped over his thigh.
Omg, lmao. I thought some staff snuck in there and messed with the animatronic thinking no one would see it cuz its dark.
Still not as bad as what he used to be like in the ride. In the ride nowadays, he talks about how Jack’s never gonna find the treasure because he has the map and key, as can be heard in this audio.
But before the ride was refurbished to include elements from the movie, he was talking about something completely different. I’ll just leave this image and this audio here.
Wtf 😳 omg. I’m dead!
The first one... I remember getting stuck on the pirates of the Caribbean boat ride with my middle school buddies while that guy repeated "dead man's peril" in random intervals for 45 minutes
Melvin looks like a human stuffed into a bison
These sets look so dated now.
Why do the deer/bison/moose busts look so demented 😂
Need some cleaning
Man, I have some Of these exact photos taken from my childhood.
Don't forget about this story. Corpse found in Carnival Ride.
Finally something that fits this sub. Thank you
I love this category of liminal space
Disneyland prohibits flash photography inside the attractions.
For me it’s 1, 2, 3, the person in the background on the left in 5, 7, 15, 16, 18.
I've heard that there real skeletons but I don't know if that's true
Whoever took these pictures is a real ass hole lol
