Dartmouth professor arrested during protest: 'It's really shameful'
According to 'The Dartmouth' at 7:23 PM a police liason identifies themselves to speak with protestors, at 7:35PM arrest warning sheets are distributed to protestors around tents saying they are in violation of Dartmouth policy, and one person says this is a "scare tactic and this does not.mean you will be arrested" at 8:03pm student government says negotiations failed, at 8:24PM a final 10-minute warning is given to protestors and that physical force may be used to remove them from the area. And then at 8:36pm the time runs out.
This time-line is crazy to me. Stormtroopers show up at night, give you an hour to disperse a protest which has every right to exist, and then act surprised when people haven't left.
The people who sent the police knew that exactly this kind of confrontation would occur.
They can protest. They can't trespass. The encampment is trespass.
Is the college a public college by chance?
Dartmouth is private but something similar happened at UNH
Thank you for the info :)
It doesn’t matter. Public universities can also prevent trespassing. Just because some place is a state institution doesn’t mean you can just make a semi-permanent encampment after being asked to leave.
I mean try to go pitch a tent in your local fire department’s parking lot and see how that goes.
Heck, pitch a tent in a public parking space in a downtown area and see how long that lasts.
Who are they protesting against?
Generalized against Israel’s actions in Palestine. Not entirely sure what their specific demands are or how they think an encampment will have them met but protesting is a big thing for some college kids if they believe there is an injustice happening.
They’re protesting the colleges funding of israel
Colleges in the US aren’t “funding Israel.” They may have some collaborations with Israeli universities but on no way shape or form are they “funding” the Israeli war effort.
It’s ridiculous to claim that.
They aren’t protesting to stop Genocide anymore. Never mention the hostages.
These people are pro-terrorist and that is a fact.
Not true
A "Fact"
Do you have a source for that fact? Did you talk to the protesters?
Yes. They outright say they want to wipe Israel off the map. Hell, they are threatening to behead college admins now. Open your eyes.
You can’t just set tents up in the middle of a campus ffs lmao
Most public spaces have rules and policies of conduct attached to them. There is a responsibility to enforce those rules and policies as there is expectation and liability created by establishing them. Whether you are in favor of the rules and policies or not, not enforcing rules and policies effectively means there are NO rules or policies.
Dartmouth is private property. You cannot legally protest on someone else’s private property without permission.
Honest question for you: do peaceful KKK protesters get to ignore demands from law enforcement to disperse and clear an area on Dartmouth’s campus too?
According to several videos of them doing just that, yes. Also there's no such thing as a "peaceful" KKK protest, as that organization's existence is inherently violent.
So you would restrict people from protesting some causes but let others break the law? How is that different from Putin cracking down on LGBT protesters by making new rules for them but letting pro-regime protesters do whatever they want?
You’re an authoritarian who doesn’t care about the first amendment.
You've created a false equivalency between the KKK and students protesting against genocide.
So some protests are valid and others are not to you.
You are no different than Putin cracking down on LGBT protesters but turning the blind eye at his regime protesters breaking the law. You want to be Xi and crack down on student protesters you don’t like but let loyal CCP protesters you do like break the law.
You’re an authoritarian who does not respect the first amendment, freedom of association or speech.
Seems reasonable to me. They don’t have a legal right to set up camp there. Being told repeatedly what will happen when and being given an hour to take down a tent and head home seems like ample time.
Seems straightforward, ignored warning, then arrested. It’s always “one person says”. It sucks in some ways but the actual people in charge did warn you to leave, give time, waited and arrested them. Seems reasonable. Not to mention that the same thing is happening at most other schools with similar results.
There is absolutely nothing reasonable about violently dispersing a peaceful protest. If the law says doing that is okay, then the law is wrong. Go back to fuckin school and read about the civil rights movement because you clearly missed those lessons.
These boot lickers will just not get it. Just because they warned you they were about to do something illegal and un- American doesn't make it RIGHT that the cops violently arrest people that are peacefully protesting.
Dartmouth "policy" does not trump the Constitution. And people saying that it is private property...how much in tax dollars goes to Dartmouth?
serious question... if we assume they are in violation of a trespassing law at that point after not leaving: how is removing people from an area they are trespassing on illegal?
You should actually study up, don't compare the civil rights movement with these Gaza protest tools and fools. That was pure crap when you compared the two.
This is no civil right issue here. This is idiots misled into believing they are championing a good cause.
In reality, they are harassing Jewish and Israeli students and helping Hamas, who are a death cult, equally ready to sacrifice Jewish and Palestinian lives.
Middle East conflict is complex, full of terrible leaders on all sides. Except one side is led by a pretty nasty but democratically elected government, while the other side is led by a death cult.
Wrong on all counts. Stop letting zionists fill you with propaganda.
Did you know that quite a lot of the protestors, both in the US and Israel, are themselves Jewish?
So what? It is about the message, not the messenger. Jewish kids can be as stupid and idealistic as any other kid.
The message is stop massacring thousands of people in Gaza. If you oppose that message you're a monster, period.
We all hate war. We all hate to see civilians be killed.
But can you really ask Israelis to allow Hamas to remain a power in Gaza? Hamas murdered 1200 Israel's and, more importantly, publicly vowed to repeat this again and again for as long as they are able. How can Israel NOT try to eliminate them? How can anyone tell Israelis that they must do nothing when there is a willing and able mortal enemy next to them reading to kill them?
If the Israelis weren't living there on stolen land then Hamas wouldn't have formed in the first place. It all comes back to that.
Peaceful?
Your definition of peaceful is absurd
Weren’t the protesters breaking the law?
So were the civil rights protestors, and the women's suffrage protestors, and the Vietnam War protestors, and so on.
None of that is relevant.
They were either lawful or not. If not, they suffer the consequences
Not rocket science. Just good old fashion common sense
So when are the genociding fucks in our government going to suffer the consequences for the heinous shit they're doing? Or do laws only apply to "normal" people?
If you break the law and disobey law enforcement like they did, you get arrested. You clearly missed the legal, illegal part!
If the law is wrong, then the pigs and their bootlickers like yourself can fuck right off with your bullshit.
They are protesting against the university's financial investment in companies contributing to a genocide. If the university wasn't doing something awful that it could easily change, people wouldn't be protesting!
The best way to protest against their financial policies is to stop giving them money. Lol
IDK, doesn't sound like you learned very much in school btw.
Why are folks downvoting this?
So another narcissistic leftist ignored warnings from the police to disperse.
I hear you, and I am not saying she is wrong.....BUT......I'm not sure how credible someone who states they body slammed her is when she is clearly on video tripping and the cop trying to hold her up. Sort of discredits her statements that it was peaceful until the "stormtroopers" showed up. They were also given very clearly warning leading up to police arriving.
It's been a trend for I don't know how long to scream about injuries while being carefully removed by a trained professional. I hate these theatrics so much, it really discredits all movements as a whole and also takes away from what should be a nuanced discussion. With all this extra noise, who will notice when a protester legit gets his ass kicked?
Disclaimer:video not in NH https://youtube.com/shorts/giEKsFLioBU?si=suFGXZn2FYJrAimd
I agree that she wasn't body-slammed on the ground....BUT....she didn't fall on her own. And maybe when a 65 year old falls to the ground while the police are dragging her away, maybe it's understandable how she might be hurt and upset.
Again, I think watching this very short clip and saying that we can "clearly" see anything is a mistake.
She completely lost me at “slammed” and “on my bad shoulder.” Unless there is some other footage her shoulder never touches the ground and slammed is not at all what happened. It’s more like she tripped while being pulled aside.
I’m fine with protests and I’m even good with illegal protests. But if you are going to do it then don’t whine about the obvious consequences and don’t hype it up to more than what it was.
Totally agree! The short clip is not the whole story. I'm just noting that her side of what we can clearly see is not overly accurate.
I'm not sure why the police would take her phone ....that in itself doesn't seem right which is what it sounds like escalated her situation.
She has every right to be upset but to me it feels like she is upset because she isn't used to being told no. While that's no way to treat a 65 year old ...don't play the age card. It's not an excuse
So only because he's republican? NY and California used the same tactics.
Same with Massachusetts , these people are fucking losers
Enjoy sucking the governments cock.
It's hilarious you call people rebelling losers, when that's how your big beautiful LaNd oF the FrEe was founded. Founding fathers must have been fucking losers, too.
I call leftists purposely doing things to get arrested to make a statement and then crying after the goal they wanted was achieved, losers. It’s the equivalent of the kid in class continuously messing with someone and them being told to stop repeatedly and then when they get cracked in the face they cry to the teacher. You’re all cry bullies, larping on behalf of a terrorist organization that would throw you off rooftops for your beliefs.
It's hilarious. You all still think this is protesting in support of Hamas. Critical thinking is truly dead.
Hold on hahaha you don’t think Palestinians want all Jews to die the same as Hamas does ? I guess all those old lady’s and children on October 7th spitting and cheering when the dead body of the teen German Jew was being parading around Gaza after being tortured and raped are all Hamas then.
You are laughably ignorant to the history of the area.
Seriously. Critical thinking is fucking dead.
You just said the Palestinians have different views than Hamas, but now I just need to take into account history to understand why they align with the group you claimed they don’t?
Didn’t expect leftists in 2024 to excuse innocent German Jews after being raped, tortured, and killed , paraded around , spit on and cheered by the locals of Gaza , but here we are, the intersect of leftism and radical Islam will be studied for Millenia.
...no one is excusing it. Fucking moron.
Try comparing NY, LA, Boston, and Hanover NH.
One of these things is not like the others
The majority of Dartmouth students come from NY and CA. It’s not the comparison that should bother anyone but the growing similarities. Sadly Dartmouth has gone from prestigious and liberal to anti liberal and progressive. Gone are the days of Theodore Geisel and Jake Tapper. The use of force against students has been going on for decades and was initiated by the college. Go to ANY homecoming and see how wussified it is now. Modest fires and overwhelming police presence and complete ignorance of the U.S. and NH bill of rights most especially the right to be secure in one’s person and things and free from unreasonable searches. Previously fires were HUGE, students, parents and alumni partied peacefully. Dartmouth consumed more alcohol than the much larger UNH.
The professor in question was on the task force that initiated the restrictions and use of force policies against students. As such she got what she put in place. She ought to read the Talmud which instructs, “What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow-man”. Anyone with a WMUR nexus, ask them to go back and ask the professor about her role on the committee for student life and her votes to restrict students and increase use of force on them.
Yeah, this is one situation where the Dems and republicans are united in their blind love of Israel. Both sides are getting paid very well with AIPAC money to hurt these kids.
What a tool..
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said she directed police to take down an Emerson College student encampment for public safety reasons, thereby empowering the commissioner to make 108 arrests to enforce the city ordinance it was violating.
Wu, in remarks Friday, reiterated her support for a police response the prior morning that has been criticized by some community members and city councilors, including the body’s President Ruthzee Louijeune, as being “heavy-handed.”
The mayor added that she was behind that response, which led to clashes between pro-Palestinian student protestors and police, and had been working closely with Emerson school officials and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox for several days before deciding to proceed with removal of the encampment.
“Are you comfortable with how the police were used at Northeastern and Emerson?” Braude asked.
“Yes,” said Healey. The audience protestors yelled and booed in response.
President Biden defended the right to dissent but made clear that he believed too many of the demonstrations had gone beyond the bounds of free speech.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/02/us/politics/biden-campus-protests.html
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday condemned pro-Palestinian protesters who broke into and took over a Columbia University building.
“Smashing windows with hammers and taking over university buildings is not free speech,” the New York Democrat said on a speech on the Senate floor. “It is lawlessness and those who did it should promptly face the consequences that are not merely a slap on the wrist.”
https://www.yahoo.com/news/not-free-speech-chuck-schumer-151404153.html
In a new statement, Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the violence that unfolded at a pro-Palestinian encampment at UCLA on Tuesday night.
“I condemn the violence at UCLA last night. The law is clear: The right to free speech does not extend to inciting violence, vandalism, or lawlessness on campus,” a portion of the governor’s statement said.
Governor Hochul: “Every American has a First Amendment right to peacefully protest and assemble and many students we know have very strong convictions, strong beliefs about what has taken them to protest. We don't have to agree with them. That's not always how it is. But when actions cross over into vandalism, harassment, destruction of property, or even violence, then the line has been crossed.”
WAUKESHA, Wisconsin, May 1 (Reuters) - Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Wednesday it "was a beautiful thing to watch" New York police officers raiding a Columbia University building occupied by pro-Palestinian students, and called on officials to crack down on campus protests across the United States."New York was under siege last night," Trump told supporters at a campaign rally in Wisconsin, praising the police officers for arresting about 300 protesters at Columbia and City College of New York who he referred to as "raging lunatics and Hamas sympathizers."
Removing encampments seems to be one of the most bipartisan issues we have.
That just reinforces further the protests are justified.
Yes, too many politicians are blindly pro Israel or afraid to even appear otherwise.
Bernie Sanders is blindly pro-Israel? Do you know what you are talking about?
I said too many not all.
Sorry if you missed that in your haste to bring up Bernie Sanders like he's some sort of gotcha instead of an exception that proves the existence of the rule.
That's a weaselly cop-out.
Sanders wants to stop sending arms to Israel. But he's also for law and order.
And the latter part is what the vast majority want.
I'm not the one who's putting words in other people's mouths and calling it a "cop-out" when they point out they never said what you are arguing, but you do you buddy.
Please show me where I misquoted someone.
I think it is more anti-terrorism, anti-hatred, anti-violence as to why people do not support Palestine
I only said Republican Governor because in this case it's true, and maybe it does explain why there was such a show of force in Hanover NH of all places.
Then why would you need to state that it's the Republican Governor? We know that he's a Republican. The party affiliation makes no difference as other governors have done the same thing.
Why? Because they think it justifies their position in the old liberal method of demonizing conservatives/GOP.
Everyone in government is getting AIPAC money rig by now to toe the line for Israel and to support their genocide.
Bernie Sanders gets AIPAC money?
The antisemitic rhetoric and intimidation deployed by some students and outside protestors on college campuses in New York City and beyond is completely unacceptable and deeply disturbing. Every American has the constitutional right to free speech and peaceful assembly in the public square. However, intentionally targeting Jews or any community on the basis of race, religion or ethnicity, acts of harassment and the use of physical violence will never be tolerated. No Jewish student or faculty member should fear for their safety on campus or anywhere else in our nation. The effort to crush antisemitism and hatred in any form is not a Democratic or Republican issue. It’s an American issue that should bind us all together. We will continue to do everything possible to protect the Jewish community during this very fraught moment, fight the cancer of antisemitism and redouble our efforts to bring communities together.
But, Sanders was supportive of Biden’s overall statement Thursday, during which the president condemned vandalism and trespassing but defended the right to peacefully demonstrate.
“He’s exactly right is that we don’t want protests that are violent, and we absolutely will not tolerate antisemitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, or any form of bigotry,” Sanders said.
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/4641061-bernie-sanders-joe-biden-protest-gaza-vietnam/
someone likes to cherry pick - “But I think … the idea that people who are critical of what Netanyahu is doing are antisemitic, that is nonsense — and that is a very, very dangerous line to cross in terms of freedom of expression in this country,” Sanders said.”
Sanders has overall not been thrilled about the admins stance to this.
Sanders wants to stop sending weapons to Israel. But he is also for law and order. All of the democrats in government don't have a problem with protests. But their job is to create laws or enforce law and order.
Most Democrats in government do have a problem with these protests as they are reminders to young people that those in power do not actually represent their interests.
The ordinance in Boston was passed to clean up homeless encampments. I've read statistics on homeless in Boston and the stats that I've seen have them skewing older.
The job of those in power is to represent everyone's interests. An example is Governor Healey's public Q&A last night. It's available on YouTube,
bro is moving from talking about AIPAC money to unhoused people in Boston - what r u on about?
The protests at Emerson College were on the street outside Emerson. The protestors put up tents on the road which violated a Boston ordinance enacted last fall to clean up the homeless encampments at Mass and Cass.
You don't keep up with local news? The latter has been an issue for years.
Hindsight is always 20/20 especially for Oct 7th.
Ok just do it next time without setting up encampments or blockades and you’ll be just fine!
Please, it's a ridiculous line to draw in the sand, it was designed to escalate the situation.
Nope it’s just a rule there for health and safety concerns and to allow for education to take place since it’s a learning environment. Nobody’s trying to silence you this is just the police doing their job. And if getting arrested was the point in the first place then why are people resisting and causing more violence.
Police action was directed by the President of the college. The President made the decision for any and all police action.
How dare you bring facts into this?!
But seriously, great summary. People’s stupid reactions to peaceful student protests is a lot like the Iraq war protests.
Would you feel the same way if these were a bunch of Trump supporters protesting his lawsuit?
A simple yes or no will suffice.
They're just tools and fools. These protests are just the latest flavor of the day. And clean up your trash after your protests.
Look at these comments lol. NH subreddit full of bootlickers who cant read I see.
Lick those hamas boots clean before you bite the curb
Ah yes because I have to love Hamas to be against excessive use of force force by police. You come to that genius logical leap while you were eating your crayons this morning pal?
Tough guy, look out.
I personally support Israel in that war fully, and that destroying HAMAS at it’s roots is the best course of action.
However, the police brutality against protesters, who were peaceful until direct aggression by law enforcement officers, is astounding and wrong. It is an unneeded show of force. Americans are Americans first, regardless of who supports what. Those students at Dartmouth, unlike Columbia, were peaceful and were protesting in a non destructive way.
The cop bootlickers here are the issue, not the HAMAS ones. The cops here are in the wrong, unnecessarily putting down a peaceful protest of Americans showing their freedom of speech.
Let’s go to the video … yup, she’s the aggressor.
Cue the audio “do you know who I am??”
I recall spending time with profs freshman year with attitudes like this one … made it clear to me academia was not for me.
There are more than enough clowns to go around in the business world … academia is far worse.
People have anointed academia as being without blemish when in actuality it is just as rife with idiots as any other group/profession. This academic shows herself to be in that category
So you didn’t watch it?
Isn’t the point of civil disobedience to get arrested.
Not these entitled buffoons. Did you see the Columbia student crying that they wanted the college to provide food and water to the protestors. That she actually had the gall to call it humanitarian aid. These snowflakes, these posers, these children, have no idea what they are doing, who they are supporting, nor what protesting even means. My advice to them is next time bring a freaking sandwich.
Is there a time in history that college protesters were on the wrong side of history? Methinks not.
There were widespread college protests in the south against integration and civil rights.
I think you mean counter-protests.
No, I meant exactly what I said.
The colleges were all-white (and often, all-male), and the students at them at the time were often strongly, violently, against integration and civil rights.
Here's an example: https://crdl.usg.edu/events/ole_miss_integration/
Why did they seize her property to begin with?
Because they’re cops. They live and breathe to hurt people in any way they can. Every single one of them is a special kind of evil.
Your personal bias is polluting everything you say.
Yeah, until you need one.
Then you’ll be on your knees begging for them to come and save your snow flake ass
You sound like those people who call for the defunding of the police yet when they are a victim of a crime cry out where was the police. You know all those crumbling cities caused by liberal policies. The ones who refuse to arrest violent people, murderers, because they believe the justice system is corrupt.
No. I don’t. Name a crumbling city.
And by ‘violent people’ do you mean Black people? 🙄
Runs up to get in staties face
Obviously gets arrested
Resists
"I'M THE VICTIM!!"
Of your own stupidty, that is all you are victim of.
Why should speaking or even yelling at a police officer get you arrested? What kind of logic is that?
She ran and grabbed her phone back from him.
Oh, so she didn't let thugs steal her property? Man, what a bitch.
Bootlickers as far as the eye can see here.
Yep and this state is full of sissy bootlicking team blue simps. It’s deplorable.
Leave. Go to MA, I heard they love marxist scum there
Once again, y'all never fail to grab on to Fox News buzzwords like "marxist" and cast broad accusations at everyone who isn't a boot licking, obey your government at all costs worldview.
One day you’ll need those “thugs” to help you.
These colleges have people that are not students on the premises, and many of the Jewish students that pay tuition have expressed not feeling safe.
Peaceful protests are not the same as encampments. I honestly don’t know about Dartmouth, but I know quite a few UNH students that said it was out of hand and ruining their paid-for experience. It’s not public property!
I've watched cops during a party clean grab a kid by the throat, who had just yelled "I know my rights", slam him into a wall and snarl "you have no fucking rights".
I've been waiting on a freight train in Milwaukee and saw two black dudes on the street down below the yard have the cops pull over, get out, beat the fucking shit out of them then just drive away.
I was personally gang beaten by West Virginia state police after three fucking cruisers showed up to stop the dangerous hitch hiker. I had no warrants, no drugs, I was not drunk, I had money in my wallet, and they beat the fucking shit out of me, put me in protective custody for the night "for my safety, it's raining" then release me the next morning with no charges, and refused to give me badge numbers.
I've watched them drag my friend and his dog apart while my friend was openly weeping, begging for them not to hurt him and then shoot the dog in the fucking head. They proceeded to leave. No arrests, no tickets, nothing. All for the crime of the dog growling at the approaching obviously macho fucks looking to mess with the street kids.
This is just a small amount of the horrible shit I've seen them do to people they see as "undersireables" who were all, ALWAYS, being otherwise peaceful people. I've long since moved passed that life, but I know who they really are.
Fuck the cops. They're pieces of shit who abuse power and you can save the "you might need them to save you" bullshit for the naive idiots who still think they're here for your protection. They're under no obligation to help save your life. Look it up.
They exist for social control and protection of property. Nothing more.
That's a fun fairy tale you just wrote. Good luck with the book sales.
Okay dude. You'd be absolutely shocked by some of the worse stories I heard from people I met out there. It sounds like fiction until you see it, then when you hear the worse stories, you tend to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I should mention this was mid 2000s so to be fair, not everyone was armed with a camera and constantly filming everything with it.
Is it available in Kindle?
If this is true, I’m sorry you experienced this.
I had a cop pick me and my then boyfriend up when we ran out of gas and help us get some. Another picked me and my college girlfriend up and gave us a ride, lecturing us how dangerous it was to be walking alone at 1am in a dangerous area.
I had a cop cry with me when he came to tell me my husband died, another have his wife watch my children as I fell apart.
This is a NH group, so I am going off of that. I’ve met some amazing police officers and some jerks. I know my experiences are different. I am white and do not live in the inner city. I, however, do not believe in vilifying all police.
This professor is the head of Jewish Studies at this school bud. At UNH, 11/13 of the arrestees were students plus one mother of an alumni. The narrative of “it’s all outside agitators who have nothing to do with the school” is tired
Perhaps, but since my son is a recent alum with tons of friends there, I’m repeating what some of the students are feeling.
Lmfao okay bro
NH staties can suck a fat one. Such pathetic losers in their wittle dodge chargers terrorizing anyone and everyone on 93
Staties have had a shit rap for at least the last 20 years.
I'm not a big one for taking other people's alleged experiences too seriously, but I've heard this my entire life and every interaction I've had with them vs local police only reinforces it.
Staties are highschool bully dropouts, almost exclusively. Absolutely dumb as a rock jackasses.
You can basically tell how douchey they're going to be based on how high they wear their stupid fucking hat. If it looks like they needed to glue it onto their "I wanted to be in the military but I sucked too much, which is saying a lot" buzzcut you know you're in for a power trip.
I don't disagree, but giving them a reason to fuck with you isn't wise.
fr, people need to get acquainted with the “path of least resistance” lol
1,000,000%
There are hills to die on. This truly isn't one of them.
What a horrible take 🤣
On what? Picking fights with the cops? Protest away, actions do however have consequences just or unfair.
The cops stole her phone.
They terrorize people?
Sounds like someone has pending charges against them 😂
Fuck me with your baton harder, cop daddy
The irony.
It’s because they are. Historically when a heavy police presence clashes with student protestors history sides with the protestors 100% of the time.
Taste like boots in here.
Then leave
Lol nah id rather watch you nh bum fucks eat soles ngl
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
This sub is dense with stupid prizes
In the interval between OccupyWall Street and BLM, the police used “kettling” and the political parties used “free speech zones” - typically 1/4 mile from a debate or rally venue. Journalists were told “if you go in, you don’t come out until the candidate/s leave”. In 2016 Jill Stein and Gary Johnson were allowed to be in the debate audience, but not interviewed, no comments could be made to or about Clinton or Trump. Supporters were contained behind double layers of 8 ft high fences, with police in between. Therefore preventing interviews by the media.
Then George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and BLM.
Now we’re back to kettling and aggressive policing.
Thank God
“During protest” is extremely misleading. She aggressively approached other individuals, and forcibly removed an item from one of those individual’s hands.
I understand anyone can let their emotions get the better of them, but based on these antics, I’m not sure if she has the character needed to be a professor.
Waaaah consequences when my privilege doesn’t work
Welcome to America, where Neo Nazi’s are welcome to rally on the streets and where protests against genocide are met with sheer force and violence.
Hey, at least the duechebag nazis are smart enough to obey the laws.
Can’t say the same for your professor…
Fuck that professor. Dis you see how she approached them!!
If part of the whole schtick is to engage in civil disobedience and risk getting arrested, then wtf are you crying victim about. Least competent protesters and activists. Dont even know how the game works. And you invoke people from the 60s/70s to try to emulate them. LARPers. If the police never engaged, then you couldnt try making a spectacle of it all and selling it to the public at large. You failed the optics game. Time will ultimately tell but polling in the wake of the campus protests doesnt hold good news for pro Palestinians. And part of that is absolutely attributable to the temper tantrums thrown on campuses that no doubt damaged the movements image.
Dont blame campus admins for doing their jobs either.
Break law, get arrested. Not hard to understand. Police brutality my ass.
Idk all I keep getting told is by these protesters in the comments here is that they’re doing what Rosa parks did and that the cops should just let them break the law. Also everyone who thinks differently is a facist.
If you’re not for protecting the constitutional right to assemble under the 1st amendment than I would agree you are indeed fascist.
Protesting is fine
Just don’t break the law. It’s really not that hard…
Nobody’s rights have been challenged in these protests. That’s just a fact. You can’t cry about being arrested if that was the goal.
She was told to leave and didn't. It's called "fuck around and found out" that how the real world works.
Fuck the police. ACAB
Protesting peacefully: PASS
Police presence: PASS
Professor action: FAIL
Campus restriction: PASS
Dartmouth Professor of 3 decades behaving badly, paying the price as a result and then whining about being a “victim”…all the while a video clearly shows us quite the opposite (“I’ma poor old lady. I have a bum wing. I was slammed to the ground. I have tenure.”): PRICELESS
Enjoy early retirement ya !D!0T
If that isn't a poster for entitlement I don't know what is.
Protesting has rules to keep things civil. The issue with a lot of these recent protests is they start setting up tents, and it become a camp. It's no longer a protest at this point, it's an angry party.
https://www.vnews.com/Dartmouth-Student-Activists-Have-Their-Eye-on-the-Green-54946709
Hold Dartmouth accounatble for crushing free speech!
All about Jewish money. If they were anti-Palestine no problem.
This person should be fired for lying. She resists arrest, stumbles onto the ground because she is ancient and should be in bed. She then accuses officers of slamming her onto the ground. She started it by running forward screaming after being told to leave
I no longer respect academia if this is what it includes
Why do many intelligent and educated professors and students oppose Israel’s actions in Gaza? Hamas initiated attacks on Israel, knowing the retaliation would be severe. It's known that Hamas, the elected government in Gaza, is supported by a majority of Palestinians for its violent resistance. Estimates suggest about 40,000 Hamas militants were active at the time of the Oct 7 attacks, roughly 10% of military-aged men. Educated individuals are aware of these facts, leading them to either support Hamas in Palestine or oppose Hamas while believing innocent lives in Gaza are unfairly affected by Hamas’s actions. Those who support Hamas must accept the consequences. Those who oppose Hamas should consider supporting its eradication. They argue that Hamas, not Israel, is the enemy, and that Israel needs more support and power to minimize casualties. Providing Israel with support, solutions, and resources can lead to more effective mission accomplishment with less pressure.
Free Palestine from Hamas
How many women and children need to die to punish Hamas?
I shouldn’t respond to this because it’s obviously a ruse. But, I feel like typing today. So here goes:
To free Palestine from Hamas, no more women and children need to die. Unfortunately, Hamas has not surrendered all of their weapons, has not turned themselves in, and has not freed all of the remaining Israeli hostages. So, in order to Free Palestine from Hamas, I see no better option than to continue to put the pressure on them. Ending the war now and allowing Hamas to survive in Gaza would be the worst option possible for the innocent women and children. Consider supporting the innocent Palestinians and freeing them from Hamas and its supporters.
It's not a ruse, it's an honest question.
What would it take for Israel to stop bombing the Palestinians? According to you, that answer is for Hamas to surrender and hostages released.
What if they don't? Is it ethical to keep bombing innocent civilians and possibly even killing their own hostages?
What if a group of men came forward and claimed to be Hamas? Would Israel stop bombing the Palestinians? How would Israel know who if they are Hamas or not?
My point is that the Israeli government has set a goal which ends in the eradication of the Palestinian people, no matter what happens to Hamas or their hostages. Their strategy of bombing innocent people to get Hamas (HIGHLY unethical to begin with) has one of 2 outcomes.
Outcome #1- They know who is Hamas and will stop when they get those people. Which means that they know who is Hamas right now and are just indiscriminately bombing innocent people as collateral damage. Genocide.
Outcome #2 - They don't know who is Hamas so they kill Palestinians until no one is left. Genocide.
How are either of these acceptable?
Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate the opportunity to have an honest and constructive discussion.
Yes, it would take a surrender of a majority of the Hamas commanders (who are known and in hiding with locations unknown) for Israel to stop its mission of freeing Palestine from Hamas.
The claim that Israel bombs indiscriminately has been refuted so many times in so many forums that it’s appalling that anyone continues to make this claim. Israel does not bomb Gaza indiscriminately. That is propaganda. Israel’s mission is to free Palestine from the rule of Hamas. If Hamas’ leaders (who, again, are known and hiding most of them outside of Gaza) doesn’t turn themselves in, then, the next option must be to remove any infrastructure that enables them to get weaponry into Gaza.
Neither of these options have to result in civilian casualties. However, unfortunately, the citizens of Palestine are not exactly cooperative with Israel. They view Israel as a threat to their existence and they believe (due to the same propaganda that you have recently published) that this entire situation is just a means of Israel’s takeover of Gaza. But; the truth is that Israel has no intention of committing genocide. That claim is false and it is the very narrative that leads to the progression of this war.
Consider what would happen if the protests were against Hamas, if all of the countries of the world voted to eradicate Hamas, and the world gathered together to find and eliminate the Hamas commanders around the world. Israel would exit Gaza immediately. And the war would be over.
But, what would happen if the protests are successful, Israel loses its economic advantage, and the world sanctioned Israel and removed the Israeli leadership and gave Hamas what they want? Hamas would immediately take up arms, and try to wipe out Israel just as they state in their Charter and as they and their allies have attempted to do since day 0 of Israel’s existence.
BLM took over entire neighborhoods and police did nothing
What a big disgrace that was
Nothing? Really? No one was arrested? In what reality?
People who get off on peaceful protestors getting beat down by jackbooted thugs of the state are fucking weirdos.
You’re delusional
Thanks. You get an A in spelling.
I have an A in logic
You were expelled…
An A at TRUMP(tm) University is worthless. Try again.
Oh ya, I did take Logic at BC.
Just because I believe in law and order I attended Trump university?
You obviously didn’t take anything in logic.
This one short video clip is good PR for NHSP. Very coordinated and organized, calm, de-escalating, giving protestors space. "Back it up" and the formation of armored troopers moves back. That's de-escalation. One trooper a few steps behind the short line of armored troopers coordinating and takes the "hand-off" of the confrontational and aggressive protestor and detains her safely and without aggression or anger.
People can complain about the police and always will, but this little scene at least showed very well-organized and professional law enforcement.
lol what a fucking twat
good that she got. should be allowed to teach other inmates
Wow, too many people here watching a minute long video clip and thinking they know what's up.
At least read the article. She said the protests were peaceful until the stormtroopers arrived, that they took her phone, that when she approached the officers in this clip she was trying to get it back. Is she very upset, agitated? Yes, and what happened before this video was taken that led to this escalation?
Annelise Orleck is a 65 year old professor of history who has been teaching for 34 years. This is a woman who has dedicated her life to learning and education. The heartless disregard for this human in these comments is disgusting. Just based on biography alone, I'm inclined to trust her judgment.
Why have the police been taking such a firm stance on these campus protests? It's a show of force. It's a projection of fear induced from summers of pandemic protesting, the ultimate lesson: put the boot on them early and swiftly, put the fires out before they spread. It's a game of politics where a Republican Governor can send overwhelming force to a sleepy college town and take a stance in the culture war.
You have to give the people a place to protest. My god, you ought to be thankful the young people have chosen to protest on their college campuses. If they can't protest there, the next place they're going is to the streets.
