(Ben Pfeifer's Mock Draft) Spurs should spark French Connection by taking Zaccharie Risacher at No. 1 and pairing him alongside Wembanyama: "Risacher might not sport elite upside given his lack of creation and and high-end traits, but he'd slot into this Spurs team"
Seriously. Spurs aren't ready to compete yet and this draft sucks. Take two guys with 4/8 and increase your chances that one pans out. Meanwhile you tank for another year and get back in the top 5 in a way better draft.
The Spurs aren’t ready to compete yet because their roster is complete asscheeks, but Wemby is ready to compete. The Spurs need to do everything in their power to improve the team as quickly as possible.
Is it that bad of an idea if they're high on Reed Sheppard?
The Ringer has the Spurs currently mocked to take Matas (questionable shooter) and Devin Carter (not a point guard, positional overlap with Devin Vassell). If they want to consolidate and grab a guy that they think can run their offense then why not?
I love Reed, but even I'm not sure I'd trade up to #1 instead of taking two bites at the apple at #4 and #8. You'd have to be very, very sure (or very, very unsure about any of the remaining prospects). Like without hindsight, I wouldn't have traded #4 and #8 for #1 in any of the last ten drafts except the Wemby, Zion, and KAT ones (maybe the Ayton one if I was an FO that properly valued Luka, but in that case you didn't have to trade up to #1 to get him).
Yeah I think its perfectly fine to value Reed as the top prospect on your big board for this year, I just wouldn't be confident enough in that choice to burn another first round pick in order to make that selection.
Idk if Wemby gonna let them have another bottom 5 record. Unless they hard cap him at 20 minutes he gonna drag that team kicking and screaming to like 30 wins.
No no, let them continue.
If they want one of the “top” guys and only have to give up 4 and 8 I don’t think that’s so bad
The difference as a prospect between Risacher and whomever they take at both 4 and 8 is non-existent. They're all flawed crapshoots this year - so why not take 2 and increase your chances of getting one that hits?
The only reason would be if they really like a guy that won’t be there at 4
Normally it’d be great value, but Risacher wouldn’t go top five in a lot of drafts so it doesn’t seem worth it. He’s a 3 and D prospect that shoots 70% from the line, isn’t an elite defender, and is a pretty average NBA athlete
Also knee injury and underwhelming measurements. The only argument is that he’s French
He's a big wing that can shoot. You can argue that it's still a weak draft or whatever but he's the most premium archetype of player in today's league. That still counts for something at the end of the day.
4 and 8 isn't happening.
At best, they'd get 4 and a future first (probably one of their own back).
They just went on record yesterday or the day before that trading 2 picks for the #1 pick is "too rich". This is all smoke and mirrors.
Right? If you are saying they should for a guy who you then day doesn't have that much upside, why not take two swings at players instead?
That's not a heinous idea if they want Reed Sheppard.
"He French, you French."
DONE
Just imagine the two of them laughing together like stereotypical Frenchmen do.
hon hon hon
Oui oui!
Why should I care about Ben Pfeifers mock draft?
the spurs are not trading for him stop
Why are we posting shitposters on here?
"Risacher may not be good but the Spurs have draft picks and a French guy already on the team so the Spurs should just draft him"
or they draft 2 players so maybe at least 1 of them breaks out instead of putting their 2 eggs in one single basket
GSW taking Bronny is a proper chess not checkers move.
They have a young franchise player.
They don't need to slot a motherfucking thing
Just draft BPA and hand pick his running mate in free agency/via trade.
The Spurs need to acquire as many nba caliber players to put around Wemby. I don’t think trading up fits that bill
We're not trading up unless it is minimal assets like taking back a contract and giving up some seconds and #4...
I really feel like our FO wants to take both swings in the top 10. Pick 35 could be juicy as well, top of the 2nd usually has some good players.
They wan't Risacher. There have been images all season of the FO over in Europe watching him play . This isn't a new want...they haven't paid this much attention to anyone else this past year.
Just take Salaun at 4. The only justifiable trade up is for Sarr.
I feel like both of those players have two of the lowest floors, but highest potential ceilings. Really don't know what to make of either. Salaun is so raw but you see little glimpses of special shit. Sarr screams good stats on a bad team guy to me in the NBA with his current skill set, but then again you see this 7 footer in transition doing crazy shit.
In this shit draft, the floors of the floor guys still aren't going to change your championship odds. You aren't passing on any low-level all star, 3rd banana Devin Vassell types. You're passing on Seth Curry and Ricky Rubio and Walker Kessler and Bojan Bogdanovic. Guys who don't impact winning in May and June.
Idk I think the floor of a guy like Devin Carter could still contribute playoff minutes. Guy can already space the floor, play D, and rebound at a high level.
Can he space the floor? He has mediocre FT% and had an 18 game heater from 3 amid a career of bad shooting.
And like...he's not a PG, he's 22, he's only 6'2"...I don't see him being a high level, two-way championship starter.

Dude has a longer wingspan than Derrick White while only being an inch shorter and is more athletic... Don't know why people keep knocking Carter for his size when he has the same wingspan as Castle.
Derrick is a pg.
He's a combo guard lol, even with us he was playing the 2 like he does with Boston
Capable of playing PG then.
Guy who can legitimately run an offense. I see little reason to believe Carter is that
The issue is that I see him as an undersized offball player with a possibly shaky shot.
I just implore you to compare White's one year at Colorado and Carter's most recent season.
Carter:
19/4/9 75% FT 38% 3pt
And
White:
18/4/4 80% FT 40% 3pt
They don’t need to trade up, Risacher will most likely be available by their pick.
Clingan
Sarr
Castle
Rockets are not drafting castle
They seem pretty set on Shepard
Wasn't Amen Thompson listed as a point guard when he was drafted? Is the shooting just so fucking terrible that they've written him off from that?
I mean Thompson is 6’7. They could easily play together and actually compliment eachother well
Yes they are. Just from a look at your profile I can tell you’re a Castle hater. You have him not getting drafted in the lottery at all lmao. Must be a Purdue fan lol.
But my point still stands that Risacher is falling to the Spurs
https://hoopshype.com/lists/2024-draft-workouts-tracker/
They're taking Sheppard. The only top pick they've had in for a workout.
Yeah as someone who wants Sheppard to go to the Spurs and form a murder duo with Wemby... he's definitely going to the Rockets to sit on the bench behind FVV :( Anything else is wishful thinking.

The point is someone told you Rockets aren't taking Castle, and instead of saying "perhaps, regardless, Risacher will still fall to 4" you said "yes they are"

Most mocks I've seen have Risacher going to Altanta. Why would the Hawks take Clingan?
Lot of recent noise of Clingan to the Hawks, who knows what are smokescreens at this point. Hawks probably trying to bait people into a trade up. Honestly I thought their interest in Risacher was mostly trying to poke the Spurs into trading up to get some of their assets back.
Givony seemed pretty confident that noise is a smokescreen on Zach Lowe's pod yesterday.

The Spurs should not be trading up in this draft.
