Is this a weird name?

I’m under the impression that it’s a very normal Scandinavian name.

I think Anders sounds/looks better, but I also prefer uncommon/unique names. I would pronounce it the way you do. 

I like Anders. It would not give me pause. Yes, I’ve heard the name before, though it is uncommon. E.g., Anders Holms is a comedian / actor.

I’m from the NE and I would pronounce it the same as you described.

If you plan to call him Andy, would you consider just naming him Andy?

Anders is great! From what I understand it’s commonly used in Scandinavia. 

I like Anders and would pronounce it similar to how you wrote. Definitely doesn’t seem weird, just old fashioned.

I like Anders and would say ANN-durz. It’s pronounced differently in various Scandinavian languages (AHN-desh in Swedish or AH-nush in Norwegian…no clue how that happens), but I think ANN-durz is close enough.

Anders is a perfectly cromulent name.

I like it. I'm reminded of Anders from the cartoon series Hilda and it certainly gives off an older more mature feel, but not in a way that's too outdated for a child.

In northern Minnesota and I’ve met quite a few Anders, although they’ve been older men. I would pronounce it how you’ve written it.

If you’re from the Midwest, there are enough folks of Norwegian descent for no one to blink and eye at the name Anders. I have a friend who named his son Anderson (first name) and it’s a friggin mouthful. Anders is a lovely name.

Andersson mean son of Anders, so use Anders. Sweden has 185313  Anders.

I have a son named Anders, and we're in the Midwest. We pronounce it on-ders. People who know him and other kids have no issue pronouncing it. When he meets new people I would say about 80% of the time they think his name is pronounced ann-ders.

Plenty of guys named Anders throughout Northern Europe. Usually you’d hear it with more of an “ah” sound, but “aa” like can is fine in a midwestern context. 

Ander is apparently sometimes used in Southern Europe.

I prefer Anders.
