Lady with lace safety vest
I saw someone recently wearing a high-vis cowboy hat lol
Why choose between stylish and safe when you can have both lol?
They also make cowboy style hard hats
this woman in my local stagehand union wears a black cowboy hardhat, as well as a red bandana cowboy boots. i'm pretty sure she's robbed a stagecoach or two in her time
I have a black one. I love seeing the double takes from people when they see it
Tbf hard hats with brims are really, really useful when it comes to working at sites without sun cover.
And in the rain...
Texas needs construction workers too!
Seems dangerous. Hard hats have a lot of thought put into them. I hole the brim of the hat is flexible so when a 10 pound tool or piece of wall hits it it bends instead of breaking the guy’s neck.
yeehaw but safe.
"This town ain't big enough for the both of us."
"I can see that."
They make hard hats with wide brims too, they're great for work in hot weather or rain.
Pro tip: do not knit a cute replacement for your leather blacksmithing apron.
Yeah, cause if you do that it'll get hotter than expected and you're gonna have a bad time.
This is sick I want one
Get it! Fashion expression is fun af.
From where though?
Wouldn’t be surprised if she made this herself or custom ordered it. This vest would be pretty easy to make for anyone with basic sewing skills. Usually a quick search will bring up some good results, but I wasn’t able to find any hi viz lace vests off the bat, only custom hiviz corsets. Which also look so cool! Love people getting creative with their work attire.
my main question is is the vest actually reflective or just yellow?
if it's just basic sewing fabric than it might not survive the elements, or might get dirty pretty quickly.
The yellow part is just bright yellow coz pigment. The gray strip you see there is the reflective bit.
But! There is yarn that reflects! But it won't be bright yellow so they would have to incorporate the reflective yarn to the design somehow.
You could crochet with the yarns together, which also would make it verigated reflectively!
That is GENIUS! I kinda want someone to try this now.
It's most probably fluorescent, like tennis balls among a million other things that light up when you shine a UV light on it, that's why it looks unnaturally bright compared to everything else in the pic.
I’m thinking that I am going to crochet one! It won’t look the same but will have the same vibe.
Tag me when you post it, I wanna see! I can’t crochet anymore, but I really enjoy seeing others’ cool creations and I think you could easily whip something awesome up.
I think I’ll actually do it! It’s fast and fun and frivolous!
Live those beautiful glowbug dreams, friend! 😌
Fast? Teach me your ways 🥲 I’m a fast knitter but I tried to take up crocheting and didn’t do too well. The yarn kept getting too tight on the hook.

This is the same fabric☺️
I couldn't find anything via google, so it might be homemade, but also my google-fu is weak and I lack discipline.
This summers new hot lineup of babushka high vis

Paisley!
Most fashion is made by slaves in excess of what is required for corporate greed at the expense of our environment
Cute colours sometimes though!
me too
As a car commuter, and queer human, I'd wear the fuck out of this. Where do I get one?
Omg we could match!!!
Omfg. I have been crocheting lace for 25+ years, and even though this isn't crocheted, it's such an awesome idea.
Do I do anything at all that requires a safety vest? Nope. Am I going to spend 50+ hours and $75-$100 making one? Yep.
Sell it to me!!
I am 100% doing the same!
I wear a generic safett vest when walking around my neighborhood around dusk. Safety vest has pockets. Pockets!!!
Safety vests are good for biking/walking at night in your neighbourhood! Even in busier areas with more street lights -- if you're in darker clothing, you're not as visible to vehicles.
You can also make one for dogs for walks too! A puppy crochet safety vest would be absolutely adorable
50hours x10£ = 500£
Total would end up being 600 I guess
For anyone who cares, I drew up and wrote out a basic pattern, and ordered 12000m of special hi-vis thread, and also 4000m of reflective thread, and will be using 3 strands of hi-vis and 1 strand of reflective to make a yarn weigh that I need. I also ordered strips of reflective fabric to sew on afterwards. I'm going to do a tiny partial test version with regular crochet thread to make sure it will work how I want it to. I will update, and I will make some seperate posts on here and comment the link under those who are interested. I'm way more excited about this than I should be. Lol. I have ZERO free time, but I'm going to MAKE the time to do this. I'm ballparking 4-6 weeks until it's done because I'm going to be working on it 45 minutes here, and 1 hour there, and so on.
I'M SO EXCITED!!
I kinda want to make an orange one for hunting season
Good excuse to go out at dusk to get the mail?
Who says you can’t be feminine and be in compliance with health and safety regulations ?
Stupid sexy OSHA
Who says crochet has to be feminine?
Disadvantage though is that it could end up getting caught on stuff, and may lack durability.
Material aside, it would be fantastic to see more patterns on Hi Vis. As long as there are reflectors, I don't see the harm in making it more fun to wear.
There is a small company in Germany that makes fun vests for adults, kids and dogs. They use colour blocking for the designs and they seem to be very successful with it.
There's a brand in Australia called Trademutt that sell high-vis shirts like this
That looks fun too!
What‘s the name of the company?
It's a Two-Women-Show! (Website is in german)
Now we're talking! That's excellent.
I mean looks like they are not going to a construction site so I am guessing they are willing to take the risk.
So pretty much the same disadvantages as normal mesh safety vests?
The holes on this person's lace vest are bigger, meaning that they're more likely to get caught/snagged on stuff than "normal" mesh visibility/safety vests 🦺
worth the drip
Vests use velcro now instead of zippers, guess why?
So we can rip them off stripper style at 5 O'clock?
So we can rip them off stripper style at 5 O'clock?
u/That_Grim_Texan yep, that's exactly why.
to destroy any sweater we wear.
I hate the velcro vests. zipper ones fit significantly better. Not that it's ever fully zipped up. Snaps superior to both.
Only cheap ones. We sell class 2/3 high vis safety vests at my work and they've got zippers and buttons.
Because Velcro is faster than unzipping, and because zippers can get stuck? Some vests could also use snap-buttons.
It could be just for a bike, so some dickhead car driver doesn't hit her.
Speaking of which, I wonder how effective it would be at night, especially as it only has one horizontal silver "stripe". Unlike other hi-vis safety vests which would often have 2 horizontal stripes, aswell also having 2 vertical stripes that would go over the shoulders (front & back) like on this vest emoji 🦺
What fo you mean bruv, I want one now and I'm a guy, I'd be the fanciest lad in the room anywhere I'd go. Plus grandma would have been proud.
If my grandma made this for me.. I would definitely rock it riding my motorcycle.
I'd rock it too if your grandma made it for me!
I would also rock this guy's grandma...wait...
If she's happy, we all happy
This is really cute!
Hello Doily
At first glance I didn’t care. But at second glance…. That’s very nice 👍
This is a nice summary of the concept of mild interest
Yes day glo yarn is a thing. Head over to / crocheting folks!
Edit: my bad, this is more likely machine embroidered on washable interfacing. Off to machine embroidery!
Fluorescent Guipure Lace. Usually I'd suggest cotton as a search term, but in this case more likely Nylon. 🍀
Also fabric dye! Sew and repurpose a couple old doilies
Wow! That's it! Amazeballs!
Safety is always fashionable
I really want to know which city in Germany that is
Think it could be in Mainz. They use a system of blue/red street signs to tell you if a street is parallel or leading away from the river.
This photo is old because the barber shop on the right side of the screen is now a restaurant, (or it may be super new because the google maps image are from 2022.)
Yep, Mainz. Exactly that corner.
paging r/geoguessr
where is u/rainbolt when you need him
It could be austria though!
It isn't because someone already found the street, but it could have been.
It’s definitely Germany. Austria has a different style of street signs.
Probably looking for her partner Cagney.
Badum tssssss
Wow this is amazing!!!
Oh em GEE! I am getting one of these!
Now that’s what I call fashion
Well. Today I learned that you can buy yarn in both safety vest orange and safety vest yellow.
I may need to do something with that.
You want to be seen and look good.
Is this in Mainz? Am asking because of the street signs in blue/red to the right of the lady.
It is. That's the corner Boppstraße / Kaiserstraße where Schick is. Source: I live around the corner.
That is beautiful.
Safe and stylish.
Love it
Dressed for that OSHA and chill.
That's fuckin dope
Is she sitting on a cat?
I thought a dog
Promoting road safety with style, fuck yeah
I wonder if someone really loves her and crocheted this for her.
That would be a lot of love indeed! This lace appears to be a machine-woven modern imitation of bobbin lace, though. Guipure or Venice lace is the keyword to search if you'd like to see more like it.
Is that a home made helmet as well?
It looks like it’s got a fabric cover on it, the front is probably decorated somehow, like embroidery
Or it's just a rain cover.
Gotta get a set of these for the boys on the crew.
Lacety vest.
*lacety vest
classy!
As an amature crocheter who occasionally rides a bike to work, I have found my next project!
fr it's called working aesthetically
If this isn’t the definition of being “fancy” ..:)
When Grandma knits you a safety jacket to keep you safe ❤️
Stylish!
Want.
Love this for her
Perfection!
That’s wicked nice
Die oma vom anzeigenhauptmeister
Ah, Germany :)
That actually looks kind of nice.
I have to wear one on yard duty. I’d much rather one like this. It’s so cool.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
Is this in Amsterdam?
I know where this is. It’s in Mainz, Germany. Intersection Kaiserstr. /Boppstr. From what I see, this picture cannot be older than 1-2 yrs.
This pic is from yesterday in that exact corner. 😂
Where form meets function.
Who said safety can't be sexy?
That's dope af
Wow! Amazing idea! I love this!
As long as it works.
though it does give early covid vibes with people and their "breathable covid masks" where the highlights were pictures of dudes with straight up laced panties over their beards.
I just hope the reflector actually works unlike those masks.
She was a fairy 🧚♀️
Safety, but make it ✨ fashion ✨
Das ist doch in Mainz
Yep
Ist das die Mutter vom Anzeigenhauptmeister?
the vest reminds me of a tablecloth, but it really looks nice.
And no one's gonna talk about how the basket is at the back?? Instead, being in the front?
Lace as houses
If she wouldn't wear the thicker ones otherwise this is a really good idea. Whatever helps a person not die to an idiot driver.
Crochet level over 9000.
I respect the talent
I think you mean 'safety vest made out of doilies'. 👌
Looks like a bunch of kidneys!
It’s a doily!
That's really fucking cool
You know sis got the ocean
This is SO CUTE 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
I love this for her!
Pretty AND practical! Love it!
Is she sitting on a cat ?
Hard.
Make more please.
It’s called fashion
She’s thinking outside the box.
No doubt, I would yell at her, "That's the sickest safety vest I have ever seen."
She's just out for her doily ride.
I can dig it
LOVE THIS GO AUNTIE GO
Talk about taking safety up a knot.
Am i the only one that thought she was sitting on a cat?
Based
*Lacety Vest
Can we just talk about how amazing this human is? Either made, or is worthy of a friend who made, this awesome vest. Also had on a helmet with a cool, probably homemade cover. So much self expression happening. I love it.
I thought there was a cat dangling from her behind…
I thought this was mildlyinfuriating and came in to throw hands until I read the sub name again
i love this
my abuela did it
There's a British comedian named Jon Richardson. He made a hi vis cardigan as a joke once. This reminds me of that.
It’s a lacety vest
This is awesome
From the first glance I knew it was German lol
Safe and fashionable
SwagCycle
she is living her best life
This is lovely
This is really cool, but probably out of my budget lol
she should sell these
A creative twist on a common piece of equipment, nicely done.
