I have suffered chronic and debilitating migraines for almost 10 years. I average 7-15 migraines a month some lasting 1-2 days. I’ve tried every prescription medication ever offered to me with little to no help. I’m talking suicidal level torture migraines (can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t function) For the last year I had been taking a beta blocker which had some mild positive results. Recently I tried acid for the first time in years and I woke up the next day with the “migraine” pressure like feeling that is almost always there gone. I kept taking my beta blockers and went 2 months with only 2 mild migraines. This past month I went to shambhala and did a double dose and I haven’t taken a beta blocker since. No migraines only one small headache! Has anyone else had this happen?
They used to treat migraines with ergotamine, which is a precursor ingredient in the production of LSD. They treated it this way before the introduction of triptans, which i believe are created by modifying the molecule DMT, another psychedelic.
Triptans are ergotamine derivatives, not DMT derivatives.
Triptan aren’t ergotamine derivatives. They are related to DMT.
I used to treat my migraines with cafegot (ergotamine and caffeine) unfortunately it is no longer available where I live.
I took some and honestly the triptipans work better for me.
They still do. DHE is a common IV cocktail med, and is a nasal abortive too.
have definitely heard of this anecdotally. unfortunately it's very hard to get studies for it as it's illegal. MAPS is our only hope tbh. rn they're about get MDMA approved for PTSD. once we get some real studies going this can be a big breakthrough with migraine meds like the new gepants
I’m scared of LSD but if I could get into a ketamine study I would IM that shit so hard and fast lol.
I’ve done the ketamine infusions and have ketamine nasal spray as a rescue. It’s not a cure for me but it helps.
How/where were you able to access this treatment?
Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia
Thank you.
There are migraine and cluster headache treatments using Ketamine too :)
Edit to say: I’ve heard anecdotes that psilocybin mushrooms also can help
I'm trying 'shrooms for this very reason, but so far only microdose occasionally. My attacks are only every few weeks, so I'm already "lucky" in that sense, but the attacks ruin an entire day and a half each time.
Not sure how to take the 'shrooms to lessen the attacks exactly, but they also seem to help with anxiety and depression.
Had the same experience in college. It wore off about 6 months later unfortunately.
can you please tell me your dosing schedule?
Yep. Mdma did it for me. It was a nice little migraine blocker that lasted several months at a time after each dose.
This is why I’m interested in mushrooms when they are legal in my state.
Why not just grow them it’s legal to buy spores
Spores are federally just as illegal as mushrooms in the US and most other places that ban them.
No you can buy spores there’s legit companies that sell spores it depends on ur state
The spores are also Schedule 1.
It's entirely academic since you have to grow the spores into mushrooms to get anything useful.
Yes that’s why it’s for research, you can buy spores in most states
This isn’t true. There are some states where the spores are illegal, but they are legal almost everywhere else because they do not contain psilocybin. Cultivating the spores is illegal, but that’s on you.
No, officer I haven't been drinking, I just boofed a few shots of vodka....
Academic argument.
ELI5
Company’s can sell spores for research purposes like under the microscope, there’s no law stating civilians with no degree can’t buy spores. There’s a lot of companies out there that sell spores for cubes. I was able to “definitely” not grow some shrooms this way. I also “definitely” did not use them. After not using them I found the pain was a bit better but overall it did nothing more than my beta blocker. Mycology now has spores but only for research 😉 there’s also subs that can help you not grow
There are many laws and some states require paperwork outlining the research and DEA release forms.
This is inaccurate information.
What is accurate is that a few places operate in a grey zone where nobody really cares and you can get away with it, but the point is you're getting away with it, not doing it legally.
Yea but it’s only in certain states there’s a high chance that this person lives in a state where you can just buy them. It’s not inaccurate information at all spores are legal in most states as long as it’s for research
Fascinating research!
Imagine if you actually had a degree! DOH!
You don’t know that bbg I could have 3 degrees
No..... I meant anyone with a degree in a research or research adjacent field would have justification for purchasing.
"you" being the migraine person thinking about not purchasing any spores for research. No you being "aggressive_lunch_box"
"research" being the actual research you were describing
My thoughts were that many of us were probably justified in the purchase but didn't realize it.
I'm sorry that didn't come across as intended! Apparently I did not express that thought well so please accept my apology.
Damn this is all new to me. I might need to dust off the old spacesuit and check on my martian vacation home
I’ve had the same experience with LSD. Not in the long term but if I take it once every three months my migraine days are basically nonexistent. It’s been a total life changer as I’ve moved from almost daily migraines to a few migraines a month. To be fair I do have to redose eventually or the effect goes away. I’ve heard similar experiences with microdosing psilocybin but anecdotally I haven’t had the same benefit from mushroom trips as acid trips, but that’s my personal experience.
If anyone reading this post is now interested in LSD here are a few things I’d recommend: • Never take LSD if you have a family history of or currently are diagnosed with BPD, schizophrenia or psychosis. • Always make sure to test your tabs. Take a tiny tiny piece and test your tab with an Ehlrich test kit (these kits can be found on dance safe or bunk police and are idiot proof I promise) • some migraine medications will interact with LSD. Go onto r/LSD if you’re curious if your daily medications interact. • Do your research before taking any hallucinogenic substances, even if you’re taking it for a medical benefit, without medical supervision you are taking recreational street drugs. Act like it and advocate for yourself and your safety by doing your research :)
How much do you have to take?
I don’t think you have to take more than a microdose to achieve therapeutic effects but I take psychedelic doses to achieve the psychedelic experience
Ok thank you!
I get rocking migraines after I trip but then I won’t get one for quite a while. There may be something to this.
I get rocking migraines after I trip
That's quite common. But for many it's the last migraine for a relatively long time.
There may be something to this.
There IS something to this. LSD, magic mushrooms (clusterbusters.org), DMT (a part of Ayahuasca) or MDMA are a well-known treatment for migraines, as well as for mental health issues (=> successful MDMA treatment for PTSB, done in a medical setting).
A lot of scientific studies about this are either already done or still in the works (currently there's a DMT study going on where I live).
Do you happen to have any sources for the studies? It's not that I don't believe you it's just that I am rusty on finding sources myself and have been meaning to look into this so if you have some to hand it would make me a happy bunny :)

Can LSD and 'Magic Mushrooms' Treat Migraine and Cluster Headache?
Honestly shrooms did nothing for my migraines so idk if lsd would work
Yes but with mushrooms instead of LSD. I didn't have a migraine for 6 months after. Additionally, I had a major improvement in my depression and anxiety symptoms for about the same duration. Unfortunately I now live in a country where mushrooms are a Class A drug, literally the same class as heroin, cocaine and meth. It's ridiculous.
So it worked for 6 months and then it wore of?
Yes, unfortunately. And I haven't taken any since then. It also got rid of my anxiety for about 4 months.
Neither shrooms or acid had any positive effect on my condition (chronic paroxysmal hemicrania). Tried microdosing as well.
Shrooms made my pain so much worse for about a month unfortunately. Was pretty disappointed given all the success stories.
NDPH sufferer.
It may have worked for me. It’s hard to say because other factors such as removing myself from my main stressor (got divorced) could have helped too.
But it’s been fun to do “medicinal acid”! And I do strongly feel it helped.
I only came close to another attack once in over 8 months, where before I was having them multiple times a month and before taking acid even started getting multiple times a week.
My province recently approved psilocybin to be prescribed for treatment resistant mental health disorders. (Ptsd, severe depression) the same psychiatrist who head up the research with LSD as well. I’m a looking forward to further studies on psychedelics for chronic migraine & other pain management.
Can you please tell us your dosage? Would be very grateful thank you
I did one tab of LSD. Every time they occur again I do one more tab and are good for a few months with no migraine’s
This is not that strange, it is somewhat well known that LSD has a beneficial effect on migraines and cluster headaches. They even conducted experiments to remove the hallucinogenic effect of LSD, but as I recall, these studies were very hard to conduct since it's an illegal substance...
