I don't get how you can get so mad (as a driver) that you actively go looking for someone, never mind getting out your car.

People like that shouldn't be on the road. They are a danger to themselves and others.

I'd report it, I'm sure the co-op will have CCTV footage of the reg plate as well.

Actually if there’s a report on a licence plate the next time it’s picked up on ANPR the outstanding report allows the police to do a stop and search on the driver

No it doesn't. It allows them to stop and account the driver, to obtain details. But it doesn't allow a stop and search. What are they searching for?

Probably not, but what you have (at best) is a registration on record and a potential name of the driver.

Plus fuck knows if anything has actually happened to the pedestrian, as it seems OP only saw both run off... hopefully he wasn't assaulted.

Well you have a low level public order offence, no victim details, potentially someone's name who owns the car. What's the appropriate outcome for this? It's not going to see the inside of a court room

At work i got introduced to a new team I'd be collaborating with.

2 dudes there were the typical rent a fancy car & Rev the heck out of it up & down curry mile lot. I was talking to them about cars since we had that in common, but they were telling me how happy they were that they found a guy to straight pipe their cars to make them louder...

Had to just sit there nodding along. Internally I was thinking;

Really don't get that lot. I love my cars & motorsport in particular. When I was younger I even participated in a rally cross event which was fun. But on the roads? Just follow the fking rules & behave, it's not that hard...

I just imagine those kinds of people drive past school girls trying to get them frothing.... but the reality is that even school girls think they're a bunch of sad bellends.

Someone once followed me home to shout at me once I’d parked up for going too fast round a roundabout. I was within the speed limit and it was my right of way, SHE nearly pulled out in front of ME! I even checked my dashcam afterwards to make sure I hadn’t missed something.

Some people are just unhinged… I would never approach someone to challenge driving behaviours like that tbh, you don’t know how anyone will react.

I have literally zero energy to put into hunting someone down because they moved without signalling or undercut me at speed...

All you're doing is creating more danger on the road, trying to play wacky races, and at the same time putting yourself at risk at harm, or potentially getting slapped with reckless driving, endangerment and assault.

Like take a deep breath and move on.

You're just going to scare your children even more by frantically following a stranger, get out the car, and then start a fight in front of said children.

It's miles worse if you have kids in the car as well, as you're just putting the kids in more danger.

But you're still tailgating another car for God knows how many miles, going in and out of lanes only concentrating on that 1 car and less on your surroundings... why risk your children's safety for the sake of your fragile masculinity whilst your wife is frantically asking you to calm down?

I imagine these type of people beat their wives in all honesty.

My original comment was about drivers getting so angry that they follow people, period.

You also said kids being scared is a reason to confront someone... how does a pedestrian telling a driver to indicate scare kids?

Then you own up to your mistake.... getting out and assaulting someone just tells your kids that it's okay to be in the wrong, just as long as you beat someone up for it.

A person is guilty of common assault if they either inflict violence on another person – however slight this might be – or make that person think they are about to be attacked.

An update, reported to the police & they said they won't do anything without definite CCTV footage and the case would be essentially closed.

So I've called Co-op and a restaurant opposite co-op and they've confirmed that they have CCTV footage so I've updated the report so hopefully they'll look at it.

From the other comments, I understand that other crimes are occurring but I don't know if that pedestrian was assaulted or not but I'm sure that they don't feel great after being chased for something so trivial.

Thank you, this was the info that I needed to be pushed to report it.

I'll do it first thing in the morning.

There’s a lot of negative comments on this thread but I would report it - if the Police choose not to or can’t do anything about it, at least you’ve done your bit. Did you get the vehicle registration? If so, there is a section on GMP’s website where you can report traffic offences, and one of them is ‘behaving in an aggressive or threatening way.’ This could be an option if you don’t feel Police will progress the common assault route/you don’t know the pedestrian’s details etc. In my experience, traffic offences are seen as ‘easier to deal with’ and most likely progressed by a specialist team rather than Response officers (who are over stretched and may not be able to progress as efficiently).

I've had people chase me down IN THEIR CAR before. Like they think they're in an action film because I got annoyed they didn't drive safely. A car should be classed as a weapon in these instances and they should be taken very seriously in an ideal world. They're essentially threatening you with a weapon. At the moment there's basically no consequences for threatening to run someone over or being a danger to pedestrians and other drivers because of your anger problems.
