Hi there! So, the Steam summer sale has begun and you can bet I already acquired all my games on the cart. Killing Floor 2 was included with them, cause I saw it on sale one time with 95% but didn't end up buying it. Though that piqued my curiosity on the game, so I searched for some reviews and the game seemed really fun to me! And honestly, it is! I Installed it today and played a solo game on farmhouse and it was pretty enjoyable. Though I started wondering if the community here was welcoming towards new players like myself, who still have a lot to learn. So?
If you play hard difficulty or lower it seems fine, if you are running around in the higher difficulties as a level one firebug you will get a few words.
Killing Floor 2 etiquette
Do not run off solo and hog kills/money.
Do not aggro more than 1 scrake or fleshpound at a time.
Do not spam heals to healer!
Do not sell weapons dropped from team mates
Do not run away from team if medic.
Do not save your dosh if you got all your gear.
Do not stand outside the highlighted area when doing an objective.
Do not flame the medic if you die
funny how i learned all of these through exposure and never really thought about it until now, but yeah it is basic decency
The last one... In short,, if you die, mostly its your fault to create safe distance / escape path..
Got something similar years ago.. blame as stupid zerk coz failed to tank scrake while the cockblock my escape route creating a human wall on my escape route to create safe distance from it...

In 1300hrs. of play I've only had 2-3 issues. Stick to Hard difficulty until you get your Class/Perk to 15 or above. Have fun.
The community is great, but there is an etiquette for sure. If you are playing on hard or lower do whatever you want. If you are playing on suicidal or higher then you should probably get to know what classes fit together and which ones don’t, or you will start to get some heat. As you get better at the game you will know what I’m talking about. Certain classes in the game clash with others very profoundly and usually lead to everyone dying in a not so great way.
Eventually you will understand. It’s a great game and 1000% worth your time and effort in learning how to play.

Just don't join HOE or Suicidal lobbies on a low level. You won't be criticized and you wouldn't survive below level 15-20 anyway.

I’ve had the game since release and it’s not toxic unless you bring it on yourself. You will only ever get yelled at if you join hardest level (HOE) and bring low ranked characters/classes. But that’s because harder levels need the perks of high level characters for stagger as in HOE enemies are faster than you can run. Also you don’t really need any type of chat on in this game anyway so just turn it off to avoid any random encounters you do end up getting

LITERALLY NOT TRUE. bro just play normal mode until you learn the game and perks and level up to at least 15-20, then play hard with that perk, repeat with another perk going onto normal to learn and level it, then going onto hard. repeat until you know all the perks what they do and have good levels. then ur good to play survival
Not true. 400 hours in and haven't found a single toxic comment towards anyone. I have had alot of messing with the welding tho. If you consider this being toxic, then I suggests you stick to solo or sp games.
Yes, welding the door and blocking your escape from a boss is a form of toxic behavior. Being toxic doesn’t necessarily mean cursing, or typing in all caps, etc. The actions to sabotage their team are called griefing.

True, I'm with you on that one. Tho it's not common in this game. Not alot of ways for griefers to grief here, so they do it in other games where it's much more evident.

You mean those “HoE+” lobbies that take up most of your HoE game search? They claim to be above the official server and such, when in reality their maps are well-designed for precision perks. (Extremely large maps and no EDARs to stop them from kiting) These self-proclaimed elite servers simply exist to drive away the chaotic perks which are clearly more fun and effective to play.

If you don’t join max difficulty (HOE) servers without having a high level you’ll be fine
95% of the community is chill. 5% are toxic with everyone not just newbies.
Generally, it’s not very toxic unless you’re playing on HoE (Hell on Earth, hardest difficulty in the game).
The game is generally pretty chill on the lower difficulties and not that toxic. Do NOT click on quick play (it literally dumps you into a random match, possibly into a HoE game for some reason). ALWAYS use the server browser, so you know what type of game you’re getting into.
Lastly, I strongly recommend sticking to Hard mode until you know how to play the game; only go into Suicidal once you want to test your skills. Difficulties go from: Normal, Hard, Suicidal, then HoE. Normal is too easy, but that will be good to warm up on. So again, just avoid HoE until you have several hundred hours.
I dont think you need hundreds of hours to play HoE, the thing is just like If you are very confortable and winning in Suicidal that is ussually the signal to go and try hoe
Yeah, true, you get used to HoE the more you play it. I guess the key is to try solo HoE first to get acclimated. All of the ZEDs start sprinting on HoE, so it’s a major adjustment from the previous difficulties (I.e. clots jog on suicidal but they all sprint on HoE mode).
Just dont join Suicidal or HoE Lobbies, even Vet players get ragged on in HoE lobbies if you dont play the right way. HoE is just too sweaty in general.
I main Suicidal diff and I usually help all the low level players that join the lobby im in.
I love Killing Floor 2 I have every class max prestiges I even have a second account so I can do it again. I personally like noob players and top players. With the noobs it's kool watching them learn the game.

Nah, i feel pretty bad when a new player that has like 10~20hs join HoE somethimes even with a <20 perk because i know the team will have a bad game overall, most of the time. In other that HoE you can probably join any lobby and play normally.
And generally try to fill a gap in a team, that is the most important thing to do, if there is a SS, Commando and a medic, and you enter and start spamming explosions and setting Drones people are not gonna be pleased, if you join as a Support in that game for example people will be just happy
The short answer is yes. If someone doesn't look up the optimal ways to play / makes kistakes in mission or buys the wrong items the other players will abuse and / or kick them immediately. Don't let people on the sub gaslight you there's barely anyone playing that doesn't fly off the handle instantly anymore. Game is almost not worth playing at this point.

Man is like any other game, toxic and friendly people. Non in my experience sometimes people kicks you out simply because your don't "belong" to a certain difficulty.
Nah i don't think so, unless maybe you go on the hardest difficulty as a level 3. Even then if players want to kick you because of that it means they are little bitches who can't take a small challenge. Sometimes you also get kicked because there's a group of friends wanting to play together but never saw anyone being toxic, it's just a co-op game
You can find plenty of people and groups that arent toxic, even just randoms in game. Most people have mention the main thing of "dont join hardest difficulty without level 20+", but id also say be aware of where other players are and try not to oiss of zeds that are looking at them (instead of you) unless theyre already shooting it.
I've played hundreds of hours across ps4 and pc since the game released and I have had one single toxic player experience. The only toxic thing is veterans who expect you to hold one corner of the map and steal all the kills instead of letting you move around and earn xp. Beyond that people are extremely unlucky to have a negative experience.

Don't spam asking for money is the biggest thing, especially on 4 and 7 rounds.
On 10 and endless it's okay to ask in later rounds, but didn't expect anything. And always say thank you
Steer away from hell on earth, never had a non toxic team in there in like 8 years (im max rank and prestige support it isn’t a level issue), besides that I’d stick to hard until you’re rank 15+ in your perk. Overall it’s very good but HOE elitists have ruined many a game for me.
For me it’s only the so called “HoE+” servers that are toxic. The official HoE servers seem to be okay. (The games are rare to find though)
Toxic towards newbies and oldies. I have my share of people trying to kick me cause my level is low while it’s actually leveling the prestige. Some want to kick me for unspoken rule. Basically don’t even take people serious and play courteous while is co op whatever happens at the end you win nothing from it is a game.

I'm going to say no... It's usually newbies that don't know what they are doing who are toxic to higher level players. Example: expecting to be able to run off from the team and have everyone drop what they are doing to save them when it inevitably backfires.
If a newbie is in a higher level difficulty and not keeping up (at all) they are a detriment to the team and bringing them down, they'll probably be booted. If they get on the mic, let everyone know, they'll probably be kept alive by some good teamwork if the rest of the team is veterans. Most people want to retain a good player base.
As long as you defend the area and complete the objective rounds I literally do not care what you do.
I'm here to carry us to victory. I'm very used to doing just that.
And as others have stated, if you pick up someone else's gun you damn sure better give it to them. Your punishment if you don't do this is no heals or cash if you die. Otherwise just leave on the ground.
A slight pet peeve of mine is when someone joins my high round endless game only for us to get overrun the exact next round. But, I've come to accept that's not really your fault.

If you're playing on Suicidal/Hell on Earth with fresh perks, if you're playing with a strange/disliked loadout combination, if you steal kills (for perk levelling I guess?), and if you cause zeds to panic from poison and fire, some people will have a problem that will lead to trash talk or even a kick.
I've been kicked a few times, one for "exploiting" despite the devs saying they like the idea of goomba stomping with the double barrel and wanted to keep it in, and of course using an off-perk weapon on Medic (among other perks) even though the damage bonus from healing yourself applies to your whole loadout.
I played with a girl and she made me jerk off on call with her while role playing so I guess they’re not so bad
Somewhat, but it’s easy to find welcoming lobbies and the learning curve is pretty shallow so you’ll be “good” after a handful of games, assuming you’ve played other survival shooters. Just stay by your teammates at all times and do not ever try to be a hero.
It’s such a good game though but solo is the worst way to play IMO. I always jump into random lobbies and never had a problem
Usually if you aren't a low level perk and you perform the duties of your class/weapon loadout(trash clear, kill heavies, etc), you will be fine.
I've had weirdly wholesome interactions with the community. Left a negative review because the game straight up wiped around 100 hours of my progress and there's nothing I can do about it. Threw in some other criticisms about the game and brought up things I didn't like since I was already there. Whenever I negatively review popular games on steam, I tend to get at least one person adding me telling me to eat a bullet. When I did that with Fallout 76, dozens of people did that.
With kf2, though, 4 or so people added me just to recommend a few things to try. One guy even offered me a map to quickly grind my stuff back. Only time people have offered words of support instead of...other choice phrases. I play solo so my experience with the community is based almost entirely on that, but it was a shocking turn of events. Never had that happen before in my many years of leaving negative reviews.
There are a lot of Bad Apples out there, just make sure you are fully perked up on your playstyle before attempting higher difficuties. As long as you keep it slow and tactical, you wont expect toxic behavior.
It depends on difficulty. I have seen lots of positivity personally, but if you get in a HOE lobby where its more competitive and theyre trying to play seriously, you should always go with 20+ perks and try to perform as best as you can, or you'll get flamed. Otherwise, people are kind of chill about it.
It depends. If you die over and over or play high difficulties with a low level class, you will probably receive some flak. But if you are good at the game and a good teammate, nobody will bother you.
Just take it easy and learn the game as much as possible before bumping up the difficulty. It's really not that much harder, but there's less room for mistakes- on Normal you can let a fleshpound smack you around for a long time, but that obviously is not allowed on Suicidal or Hell on Earth
It's half in half at times. Just remember to use perk guns for the perk you are using. If a medic heals, you say thanks ( it means a lot to us) :)
And for the love of all things, don't panic, stay together, or die alone. Remember, it's a team game. Bazerker, support, and medic combo is always a good idea for low difficulty. Try to use different perks to understand how each works and how to support each other when using your main perk. Don't forget to heal yourself whenever you are able to. (To many noobs forget to heal than die) :(
It's an old game now, so you might have a hard time finding people to play with (I still play kf2 whenever I can, but I'm waiting for kf3 now, so lol). Rip and Tear, noob.
There’s some game etiquette that you should learn if you want to play at the higher difficulties. Some people have already mentioned here. For the most part, the community in my own experience the past 4 years has been great. KF2 is the only game I have played where I can join servers and play with randoms and have a good experience. Read up on how to play each perk effectively so that way you can be a great teammate to other players in your lobbies. The KF2 wiki explains each perk and how to play it most effectively, as well as types of weapons effective against certain zeds and bosses, there’s also tons of threads here too that explain best set ups for each perk and which abilities to run for certain play-styles and best weapons to run.
Will say this again even though many have already said it already, DONT play suicidal or hell on earth difficulty until you know the game well. I get frustrated on HoE when other players dont pick the right perks for the team comp and we get overwhelmed because we dont have the right set up. Understanding the map you are on and where to hold and split up lane responsibilities is important at higher difficulties, making sure you are a high enough level to be effective, and knowing how to play your perk to compliment your team. If you want someone to play with at harder difficulties dm me and we can squad up! I’m sure there’s others here to make a team so that you can get a taste of higher difficulties and have chill people help you experience it without the worry of upsetting your squad mates
The community is mostly very chill, I play this game to turn off my brain from after work. Stick to Hard difficulty for grinding levels if you are under level15 for any given perk and you will be fine. If you go into Suicidal while being level 2 you will get flamed (some people don’t care) because low level teammates with no self-awareness or game sense in Suicidal or even Hell-on-Earth are being selfish.
I had a decent experience as a newbie to be honest, I was completely ignored in a non toxic way, I didn’t speak so I wasn’t spoken to, I’m still relatively new to the game as well, just use common sense as a player and don’t be toxic and you’ll have a good time! And don’t hog dosh! Focus on yourself and when you’re done just dump all you have in a pile and if someone needs it they’ll go to it! Be sure to thank the helpful teammates! It’s a good game and you’ll enjoy it
If anything I get kicked sometimes for being too good lol I’ve straight up heard on PS5 people talk about kicking me because I’ve got 200 more kills than the next player and they want more money. I don’t even use the sentinel ever or anything either
The things to know to stay on the good side of the community.
Level 1-10 go normal. 10 or higher for hard. Level 25 for the difficulties higher than hard. Unless ur a medic or support, the higher the difficulty means the enemies have higher health and do more damage as well as being a lot more of them. Coupled by the fact u earn less each round at higher difficulty. Otherwise ur putting a burden on the team to cover ur damage and kills.
Do not do fire damage to a scrake.
Work as a team. Meaning, cover someone who’s getting overrrun, heal ur team mates and share dosh when ur able to. Going off on ur own when ur new means ur gonna have a bad time.
Be polite.
HoE is ONLY for the experienced. Stay away unless u know the game/have characters at lvl 25/part of a group u know. Otherwise, mistakes are heavily punished on that difficulty so people are more easily angered.
If the most of the party is at the objective holding it down, DO NOT go off by urself and kill enemies outside the area. It’s considered a dick move.
I’ve been playing KF since the first one on pc and the community overall is very nice and pleasant when u do the above.
Stick with teammates, cover sight lines they aren’t. Stick with weapons your perk uses whenever possible, with exceptions like a medic pistol if you have carry weight room.
Try to heal your teammates and get them to heal you. Your syringes charge faster that way and you both earn a bit of dosh.
Don’t try above hard until you’ve gotten a perk leveled up some and understand the game better. That being said, hard is considered the most efficient for xp farming, and higher difficulties are mainly bragging rights.
The game gets hectic even in hard with six players. If someone dies, and you can pick up their gun, etiquette says to give it back to them at the end of the wave when they respawn. If they quit the match before that, then it’s ok to sell it. This doesn’t apply on wave 1, when the weapon they drop is the same one they’ll respawn with.
