Time required to drive across the whole country without leaving it
MapNot many people can say it’s only a five minute drive across their entire country except for the pope.
If you're fit you can easily run through the entire country in a few minutes.
It took me 36 minutes to walk around the Vatican when I visited.
You ain’t fit
SAVAGE
36 minutes to walk and 4 hours standing in the line of the musei vaticani around most of the northern wall.
That‘s also basically cheating. Their road goes along the border and with this drive you cover two thirds of the circumference. For other countries it‘s a straight line through the country.
Takes me more than that just to get to the nearest bakery
It takes me longer than that to get to the nearest gas station, or, anything besides trees, fields, and houses.
Takes me longer than that just to get into the car
It's a ten minute trip from the couch to the bathroom
I would crap my pants...
It's about a minute 15 in a Formula 1 car.
assuming no traffic
1:15 is about the lap time in the Monaco Grand Prix.
But that's a full lap back to where it started, so one end to the other is about half that.
Assuming no traffic.
I literally heard them saying on TV at the Monaco grand prix you can cross Monaco with an F1 car in about 12 seconds. Sounds reasonable considering the main straight is quite a chunk of the way.
As someone who lives in the Monaco area, this drive has never taken me less than 30 minutes 😂 traffic is shite
What is it like living there? I imagine the wealth gap is pretty strange to see daily
There is no wealth gap in Monaco, everyone is wealthy
…even the service workers? Or do you mean those actually living in Monaco?
The service workers don’t live in Monaco. This country is the size of a US public high school.
The service workers are commuters from France
Resident as well, can take 40 minutes with traffic easily.
I can go longer around without leaving my neighbourhood
I know people who can go longer without leaving their own property.
Know people or of people? I wish i knew the wealthy
I know people. Farmers, mostly. Wood lot owners. Land rich but not necessarily money rich.
Vatican City is still less. I got 5 minutes when I took the furthest corners from each other.
By walking too, nonetheless.
That's not how you use "nonetheless".
Perchance
"Vatican City isn't a country, it's literally in the name!"
This reminds me of a student in my class arguing with the professor about whether the Vatican was a country or not. This was a second year student arguing that it wasn’t a country in a political science class to a British professor who went to Harvard. Most mismatched argument I’ve ever seen and very funny
It’s a city-state.
Heretic! The Pope wouldn't be happy with this.
Try driving across Alaska.
That’s more because of the poor backwards infrastructure of inland China.
G213 is a decent highway. A 500 km drive through the mountains will take a while regardless of quality of roads.
Sichuan is larger than Sweden.
Some drivers do it at just under 2 minutes
Such as some guy named Leclerc, recently.
Cheese
Cheese is tasty.
Benoit.
BALLS!
Monaco is 2 square kms or like 500 acres. I used to live in a rural part of a western US state. 500 acres is way small. My neighbor's property was bigger than that.
Looks like a long and difficult journey.
The one McDonald’s there is labeled a pizza restaurant on Google maps
McPizza
Don't go to Birmingham. People have died of old age on the side of the road on spaghetti junction.
Max can do it faster
Ok that ones cheating.
Can you do Nauru or another extremely small island nation?
Does everyone in Monaco just know each other? Because this is just a small neighborhood
It’s so densely packed though. It’s not like an average suburb.
For americans there would be only enough place for 5 houses. In monaco there are 30k people. It's ur average southern french city
Nice try but big no. The southern French cities I know have populations ranging from 300k to 3 million.
the biggest city in the south is marseille with a population of 800k, besides there are plenty more cities of this small size than big cities like nice, montpellier and toulouse but this wasn't my point, I was talking about the population density
Resident here, yes and no. you know a lot of faces but not knowing everyone.
I was there last year for the first time. Do the tourists get really annoying? At least in other countries they’d be easy to avoid due to geography but that’s not something you really have.
No way. Between the very frequent police stops and traffic, it takes more than that. But ok, 20 minutes.
Frequent police stops?
Big time. If you don't have a Monaco numberplate, your car is very likely to get stopped. They ask for your ID and what you're doing there. Monaco has more police per capita than any other country in the world.
Thanks for the answer!
What about tourists? I'll be there for a daytrip since I'm in nice. Is there something to consider? (Besides not being a criminal etc)
They are wrong. It literally never happened to me and I’ve driven there quite a lot. Nothing to worry about it’s a city like everywhere else, just fancier and more expensive 😅
I am not wrong, so I doubt that you've ever driven there. If you have, tell me - where did you park? The person travelling there can just ask in the Monaco sub Reddit. I would have no reason to make up something so random.
I used to live just outside Monaco and my sister lived in Monaco. I drove into Monaco every few days with french plates for many years. The only time I was ever told to stop was when I was on my cell phone while going 5 km/h in traffic.
Yes, they are everywhere. They rarely ever stop anyone. They do look at everyone for signs of weirdness though.
They stop people all the time. If you saw something different, I don't know what to tell you.
Is Nice still a crime ridden dump like it was in the late 80s?
I don't know ..I've never been there, we'll see in a month or so:)
Watch your pockets.
Most tourists don't drive there. They don't stop random tourists on the street but they do stop and "contrôle" (check) cars. Since someone has called that into doubt, ask on the Monaco sub Reddit. Unless you're trafficking drugs, you'll be fine.
Have you ever been to Monaco?
My dad lives there and I’ve driven there many times with a Swiss license plate and was never stopped by cops. This just seems plain wrong
Obviously, I have. If you've never been stopped, I have to doubt that you've ever driven there, because it happens the whole time. As you should apparently know, there are police stationed on the land border roads and they contrôle cars coming in. I mean, the questioner is going to see for themselves pretty soon, so why play it down...
MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IS: CAN I SMOKE WEED DURING THOSE 7 MIN?
Nope, it’s a pretty conservative country relative to Western Europe.
But how fast can Max Verstappen drive it
1:10.567. Not the fastest tho
How fast could Minimum Verstappen drive it then?
7:65.011 So bad, he breaks clocks.
Now do Vatican
This takes shorter time than me on the shower.
And, yes, you'll still have time to be bored.
Technically a country but more like a strange relic of a kingdom.
I thought this was Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Hartford Connecticut at first glance
Minus the slow down on the GW Bridge.
Never take 95 straight through, City traffic usually gives me an extra 2 hours. End around on the TZ, also a nicer drive
Every time I hear about this country the size of a high school in the US, I would always laugh at how Grace Kelly gave up her movie career and living in the US to be a “princess” there. What a scam to fall for lol
Now do the Vatican.
