Most tests these days are either stress tests or marketing tactics to build sales before it releases. You could also probably throw "Early Access" games in there too now but most of those end up being games that ran out of money and are using it to cash out.
I’m a little worried about the state of the game when it comes out, though. How bad are the bugs if you’re cancelling betas, right? Definitely not a preorder, not that you ever should do that anyways.
Most betas aren't for "testing" anymore, they're just put up to drive sales and preorders. Look at every Call of Duty now, they even let the progression carry over because it's not actually for "testing for bugs". I think you should be cautious of every game these days because the norm has become "release unfinished, finish it down the line maybe"
Absolutely agree with that. Just seems like an extra bad sign that they are turning down that free preorder boost. Must mean something is worse than usual
