I have just recently started taking T. The other day I held a coworker’s baby a couple hours after applying the gel to my stomach. I am worried that I may have transferred some of the gel on to the baby from my hands. I am really concerned because I know it is bad for babies. I don’t know for sure if it transferred or not. I am just posting to see if anyone has had any similar experiences and how they handled it.
Thank you!! I only held the baby for about 15 minutes. It was about 2 hours after I applied it
Did you wash your hands after applying? (if not. please start doing that.) Was the baby clothed? If either of those are yeses you're probably fine. If they're not, the amount still on your hands after applying, especially a few hours after, is going to be very small, and maybe I'm being cavalier but I wouldn't worry too much. If it's weighing on you and you really feel like you need to do something, contact your coworker and tell them to keep a lookout for the signs of transfer. If you kept the info packet/slip from your gel it will tell you what the symptoms are (I switched to injections a while ago so I don't have any to reference anymore, unfortunately) but from what I remember in male children the symptoms are mostly premature arousal and in female children it's stuff like clitoral growth. Don't take my word for it though, do your research and let them know. It's in the parents' hands to keep an eye out for any signs of transfer if that does happen; your responsibility is making sure they're informed.
Thank you so much! I honestly can’t remember if I washed my hands after. I know I need to get into the habit of doing that
Yeah you really need to. Or else you will spread it to everyone around you 😅 even a small amount will do changes if it happens often
it is extremely important to do so every time you put on T, or you’ll end up spreading a medication to people or animals who it could be dangerous or unwanted for
You can use the big plastic tube lid (or a dough spatula). So you don't waste any T, you have clean hands and you don't wash T into groundwater.
let the parents know. you potentially put an infant at risk due to your lack of hygiene practices.
that’s a little dramatic don’t you think?
Yes. I mean, they are all correct in telling OP to wash his hands, but since it was 2 hours after applying gel and only once for some minutes... The chances of literally anything happening are negligible.
exactly. no need to make op feel worse than he already does

Always wash your hands thoroughly every time you apply T gel.
Omg please wash your hands thoroughly every time you apply it!!! If you’re being careful enough this should not even remotely be a concern.
If you made skin-to-skin contact with it (in a spot where the gel was (unless washed)), then that’s not good. It should be okay if it wasn’t too long and just once, but please for the love of god be more careful in the future!
One time, a couple hours after application? Nothing will happen
It is important to wash your hands after administeringthe gel, then there is no risk of contamination from your hands. The gel absorbs quickly, so it's unlikely it was still on your hands but if the baby was exposed for even 15 minutes to testosterone gel, they might absorb some.
wow this is complicated.. children are so sensitive and you didn’t wash your hands (that’s a terrible idea by the way, bad for everyone around you, especially pets), yet you didn’t let them know and it’s already been a few days. it’s unlikely that something happened, but i would never do this again. next time you’re offered to hold the baby politely inform the parents you’re currently medicated via transdermal medication and would prefer to keep it safe, or that you’d like to and would prefer to just go wash your hands for safety first, and then never put the baby anywhere near your stomach. man i don’t know. my instinct is still to tell the parents what happened, but i just understand it may be unnecessary and will cause a lot of drama and distrust with them and possibly unneeded fear. at the same time if something did happen they’re unlikely to share baby’s medical info and it would solve their issues. so complicated :(
There has been cases where a dad using T gel made her newborn daughter start growing pubic hair cause he laid her on his shirtless chest and it transferred that way.
Definitely be more careful but one time might not do anything unless they’re like hypersensitive to it and absorb it very well. It’ll prolly be nothin to worry about tho.
Well, I’m assuming you washed your hands after applying? You’re totally fine. The transfer risk is only an issue with bare unwashed skin, so unless you held the baby shirtless you don’t need to worry.
Basically unless you’re having sex or not washing your hands it’s an uncommon risk.
Absolutely nothing will happen brief 1x contact. Don’t worry too much about this.
If you washed your hands well after the gel application and you were wearing a shirt, you’re fine. This is def something they warn people to watch out for since it ends up more arduous of a task if you live with other people or pets, and are therefore more likely to engage in skin-to-skin cuddling behavior or have crises that involve not having the chance to wash your hands.
Did you wash your hands after? And we're you wearing a shirt?
According to my doctor, apply the gel and rub it in until it’s not tacky, after which you should avoid excessive sweating for 2-4 hours and simply wear cloth (aka a shirt). She said as soon as it’s dry and you put a shirt on you don’t have to worry about cross-contamination. Just thoroughly wash your hands and you’re golden. You won’t be transferring any gel if you apply it correctly so there’s no need to worry. The shirt is barrier enough.
just a tip: i rub my gel in with my forearms so it’s not on my hands. i’d still wash your forearm afterward, but it can just alleviate some stress with cross contamination.
I use the plastic tube lid. I also don't wanna waste any T 😀
I feel sorry for yours, they already know they fucked up and aren’t running around slathering T on kids. Jesus fucking Christ.

if it was just for a moment the baby should be fine but i definitely wouldn't do it again. whether any t was transferred or not is irrelevant because there's not really anything that can be done about it. after 2-3 hours you shouldn't be able to transfer via skin to skin contact
