Euro 2024
r/euro2024•173.2K subscribers•364 activeThis game was honestly a bonus for me, I didn't expect us to get out of groups.
We lost today, categorically, but honestly I enjoyed this game, and think our boys did the best they could
The quality difference was obvious, but I am glad we didn't have another foul ridden closed game at least, and I am more hopeful for the world cup than I've been in the last 20 years.
Best of luck to the Netherlands going forward!
Are you readyyy???
Should have been 2. yellow for dumfries for faking actually
Slovenia haven't lost in 90 minutes since last November, for a team of their quality that's a big deal. They're hard to break down and have made most teams who've played them look amateur. They were physical and clever and pressed very well. People want to talk about Ronaldo because he's the main character but they've not given any credit or acknowledgement of the other team.
Sometimes a team can't play well because the defensive team is doing a good job. The number of times I saw a Slovenian player barge a Portugues to the ground was insane and it was still legal. It was a game for people who loved to watch defining.
I've also not seen people give credit to Costa. What a performance in goal, it reminded me of Ricardo that fucker who stopped England back in the day.
Ronaldo's status has taken away from many talking points in that game. Roberto Martinez and his lack of managerial ability, Bruno, Silva, and Leao not performing, all of these players I've heard called world class. The fact Jota should be starting. Sesko missing a big chance and the follow up being wasted. There was a lot of interesting talking points in that game but people will only talk about Ronaldo as it's low hanging fruit.
Doesn’t feel right to me.
I hope that I am not the only one who thinks this way but the central referee was not too notch. The side referee too… A lot of missed opportunities and interruptions. Just my 2 cents
Hello folks, I was very deceived by previous matches and I feel that today matches are the most intense ones.
Looking forward to watch Austria VS Türkiye
What is your pronostic ?
Turkey being something else than Eastern European I'm wondering when a former communist country will ever be of importance in football
Netherlands was the better team today, congrats for the win! But Zwayer was awful, really awful.
I like watching how passionate they are about keeping the array of attacking talent out, they fight for their lives even though they're expected to lose. That spirit is one of the reasons I love football, every team goes out and tries to win (Except some of big teams, inexplicably).
I understand that some people prefer that every match end 4-3 with world class goals and I while I see the appeal of that kind of game, a solid defensive performance against a bigger team brings the same level of joy to me, and I'm sure the nations will be proud of them too, no matter when they leave the competition.
It seems like a lot of people dislike this Euros because there has been a lot of defensive work outside the first round of matches. Is anyone else enjoying the recent ones as much as I am?
This game had more energy than combined energy of all other games played by them. DePAY has to PAY more attention though.
First 5 minutes of this has been more exciting than the whole two games yesterday
Still a great player, but dude what is he doing tonight? Absolute ego trip he’s on, goddamn
Edit: he just missed the penalty and started crying. To be fair oblak save was amazing
Im currently writing this during half time of the Portugal Slovenia game and, how is this level of Football acceptable. Aside from Spain and Germany it doesn't feel as if a single "favorite" has any desire to win a game, or even the tournament. And while England are a topic for themselves we have seen this with almost every top nation. We have just now, and previously seen it with both Belgium and France. We've seen it with Italy and we are currently seeing it with Portugal.
Why does every team play as if they are San Marino playing against Prime Argentina. I get it, no goals conceded= wins. But does it really have to be in this sad pitiful way.
Im really impressed in most "smaller" nations but what most big teams are doing has just become sad. For themselves and all the fans.
