I keep banging my sticks together when I’m riding the high hat with the snare. At the end of the video you can see where it’s happening. I will also be posting a photo of my setup in the comments incase that is where the issue is stemming from.
This, and also for the looks of how you bounce on every snare i'll add on relax your shoulders, i've always been against "the correct posture" on playing, cuz i think eventually your body will be on the relax right position.
check out Joe Morello stick control vids, he talks about how the movement needs to be the natural movement of the wrist and hand, dont overwhelm by this. take it easy and relaxed youll get there.
Hitting your sticks together is the least of your worries. I’d worry more about how stiff and hard you are playing. Don’t tense up and quit hitting the hi hat so hard. Also practice over a click to help with your timing. This beat would sound so much better if you played it in time
Raising the hi hat or lowering the snare would be one way to reduce it.
I don’t think your hihat and snare are too close. Slow the tempo down a lot and just work on that technique.
Not just height of snare and/or hi hat, but also experiment with angles of each and even the angle of how you sit at the kit
Fix your wrist technique. Use your wrist more and less forearm movement. Do some paradiddle exercises consistently and you’ll see wrist improvement.
A lot of this is trying to play at a pace that your technique isn’t up for yet. And that’s okay. You’re playing a lot with your arms, and too little with your wrist. You’re lacking control here. Stick control is the most important thing about playing drums. Mastering it opens you up to a world of new possibilities. I recommend a teacher. Even if it’s just to tune up your grip and technique.
Calm down. Isolate each mechanic. Great players to me are smooth, this ain’t. Like walking down the road…would you walk like that down the road? Then don’t play an instrument like that either. Best advice ever.😂👍
Just chill a bit buddy
And relax some more… my shoulders start to hurt just looking at that tension.
In my own opinion, playing an angled snare doesn’t help.
Love this instant and helpful advice. Old guys use to just hold on to shitty technique.

Lower snare a bit
it’s mostly stemming from the timing of your snare hand’s upswing. you can keep your snare stick lower between strokes, use more of your wrist and not your elbow to lift it so high to hit the drum.
