I just saw the post about "least favorite thing about the class you love". I thought I'd ask what folks least favorite thing is about the most recent playtest changes. Obviously the final books will be different.
I like the changes to the Grappled Condition (just making it a condition is very nice), but I don't like how you initiate Grapples.
Basically in "5.5e" the target needs to beat a Strength/Dexterity Saving Throw to avoid being Grappled, whereas before it was a Athletics/Acrobatics Check. Very few monsters had Strength/Athletics, so it was a pretty good option to do, and even Legendary Resistance doesn't work against it.
Monsters can have decent Strength/Dexterity Saving Throws, so it will be harder to grapple enemies, and those with Legendary Resistance can avoid being Grappled completely.
Just from reading this, it occurs to me that grappling could potentially be the best way to burn through a monster's Legendary Resistances without spending any resource except time. I seriously doubt that's an intended use.
I feel like most dms wouldn't waste legendary resistances on a grapple though. Most boss mosters want to be up in the players' faces anyway.
Did you mean "wouldn't?"
Yes, typo. I fixed it
