This is apparently Charlie Rouse, one of London’s last night watchman armed with rattle tucked beneath his sash, truncheon, and sword, and carrying the traditional lantern. This is outside his post on the Brixton Road , London in 1850.
But no bell! Makes you wonder how quickly the old watch could shift in their sandals with all this stuff!
