1. Harassment
1.1 Personal Attacks

Comments and posts that are intended to attack or insult other users are not allowed. It's okay to disagree with someone, but using ad hominem attacks instead of having an actual discussion is not acceptable.

If someone attacks you personally, please don't retaliate by returning insults or personal attacks. Instead, report it to the moderators so that they can take appropriate action.

1.2 Discrimination

Attacks based on gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, nationality, ancestry, or religion are prohibited. Civil discussion is permitted, but using these traits as weapons is not allowed.

1.3 Witch-Hunting & Calls to Action

It is strictly prohibited to engage in witch-hunting activities on this subreddit. Witch-hunting refers to spreading a negative campaign against a particular group of people or a specific individual by sharing their information with others. Furthermore, any sort of promotion or request for raiding servers is not allowed and any user found violating this rule will be banned from the subreddit.

Any attempts to rally the community for a particular purpose, such as voting for a poll, promoting a boycott, seeking funding or support for a cause, or advertising a petition, will be removed as it is considered a "call to action". However, please note that polls or contests created specifically for the subreddit are allowed.

2. Posting Standards
2.1 Low-effort Submissions

Moderators may remove content that is deemed as low-effort. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Quality: This subreddit is not for sharing random conversations, diary entries, or other blatant low-effort content. Posts should encourage discussion, have a thoughtful purpose, and not exist "just cause."
  • Memes: Copy-pasted memes (meme templates, short jokes/polls, etc).
  • Rants: Hyperbolic, acerbic, or otherwise inflammatory expressions of dissatisfaction will be classified as a "rant" and removed. If you believe your post provides valid criticism, consider reformatting it as a clear post discussing the general topic rather than an individual complaint. Posts that contain a majority focus of rant content may be removed even if including a small portion about the general topic.
  • Screenshots: Posts simply sharing a screenshot/image should be accompanied by sufficient information/context to encourage discussion.
  • Vague Titles: Vague titles are not permitted. A rule of thumb is that you must be able to have a general understanding of what the content features before looking at the content. Vague, context-less, memetic, misleading, or inaccurate titles are not allowed - titles should represent or describe the content of a post.
  • Relevancy: All posts must be relevant to Discord.
2.2 Safe For Work Content Only

Excessively violent or sexual content, including but not limited to death threats, explicit content, gore, or content that sexualizes or harasses other users is not allowed. However, discussing NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content is allowed as long as it is tagged appropriately and is relevant to the discussion.

2.3 Client Modifications

Client modifications such as Better Discord and BeautifulDiscord are not supported and are considered a violation of Discord's Terms of Service. Therefore, we do not discuss these matters on the subreddit. Third-party add-ons like these are not safe to use. Installing any third-party software that modifies the Discord client can create vulnerabilities that may expose you to malicious code or result in the loss of your account. It is highly recommended to avoid using such software to ensure the security of your Discord account.

3. Spam
3.1 Recently Posted Topics

Reposted topics are not allowed. Threads that focus on topics that have been discussed at high frequency, cover information from the same angle, or are covered in our FAQ pages may be removed. Please use the Reddit search bar, check /new, or the front page as this is a topic that has been largely posted/discussed recently.

This rule is not a way to silence certain topics or push them to the back of the bus, it's a way to make sure that the subreddit stays true to its topic and to make sure that everybody can enjoy/use the subreddit, even if that means that some people will get less value from it. Your criticism/opinions/ideas are all welcome and appreciated. Please use the existing post(s) to consolidate constructive discussion.

3.2 Advertising/Self-Promotion

No advertising, self-promotion, selling/buying accounts, trading, or nitro begging. This includes:

  • Asking for or providing invites to non-official servers is not allowed. Consider looking in the sidebar of subreddits you enjoy, reading the bios of your favorite content creators, or utilizing Server Discovery to find communities that are new to you!
3.3 Code Giveaways

We do not allow giveaways on this subreddit as they create spam and we cannot verify that all users receive their prizes (when required to enter). If you want to give away your code(s), please use this post .

3.4 Third-Party Bot Support

If you are having trouble with a third-party bot, we recommend you contact their support team. Try searching the bots name on Google as most bots have a support website or server. Some of the more popular ones are Dyno, Mee6, YAGPDB, & Carl-bot

4. Official Support & Requests
4.1 Account Support

This subreddit is not the appropriate place to post account-related issues/requests/complaints. If you are having an issue with Discord's product or need to contact them for any reason, please search their support knowledge base for answers, send a ticket to Discord’s support team, or use the search function here on the subreddit. If you've already sent a ticket, please be patient and wait for an answer. The support team often has a slow response time due to the number of open tickets.

4.2 User Report

This sub is for talking about Discord as a product, service, or brand in ways that don't break Discord's Terms of Service or Guidelines. If you believe a user has violated ToS, please report them.

4.3 Bug Reporting or Feature Requests

Technical questions and issues other users may be able to assist with are allowed, but bug reports should be shared directly with Discord. To learn how to report them via the Discord Help Center, read this blog post for instructions! While feature requests and feedback inspire awesome discussions on the subreddit, we encourage sharing them with Discord directly via a Discord Feedback submission. Submitting there guarantees higher visibility from the people who can implement the suggestions.

5. Reddit rules

The Reddit content policy and terms of service must be followed at all times. Some of our other subreddit rules overlap with the site-wide rules, but such rules provide more information specific to r/discordapp to help you understand what kind of content is allowed. Please review proper Reddiquette before submitting.
