"I've known adventures, seen places you people will never see, I've been Offworld and back… frontiers!"
From Jet Set Will, donkey kong, asteroids and missile command, thru M64, Sonic, half life and many others, been a wonder to see how far things have come.
I grew up playing the NES, then the SNES, and so on and so forth.
Every console blew my mind by what was capable and graphics. I remember thinking PS2 graphics were absurdly impressive because individual fingers could move (N64 just had like, mitts that would grab things). I thought certain cutscenes on PS2 were practically realistic.
Then the 360/PS3 came… then the Xbox One/PS4, and now we’re on the Series/PS5…
I’m so excited to see what 10 years from now looks like. And then for the 10 after that. :)
Same here. For a PS1 game, Final Fantasy 7 cinematic cutscenes were astounding and like a glimpse into a new era. I remember seeing one for the first time... Going from playing a spikey hair dude with batons for arms with bulbs for hands to seeing what looked like realistic people, creatures, buildings... It was jaw dropping. Red XIII looked so badass.
I remember playing stuff like Spy vs Spy on the NES and A Link to the Past and stuff. The good ol’ pixels.
Now we have stuff like Red Dead Redemption 2 where you can see light through people’s ears in a natural way, environments are so realistic that they often get mistaken for real life. It just makes me proud as fuck, man. Like look at where we came from and where we are now, and it’s only been like 30 years. And it just KEEPS GETTING BETTER. It’s amazing!
Remember when the concept of AR/VR gaming was some sci-fi dream that people thought would accompany a society filled with hologram telecommunications and flying cars? We have that and more, but our phones just get bigger, our cars can drive themselves... Until we irreparably damage the planet in like 6 years.... Holograms are used for the Superbowl but my call gets dropped if I board a bus.... But games at least made the dream real 😂
Right? When Death Stranding first was advertised, I was blown away. I thought back to gaming with Link to the Past and WrestleMania 2000 and all the Final Fantasies etc and to see graphic graduation to the points of the releases of stuff like Metal Gear Solid 4 then Death Stranding and such... We've come a long way.
