I refuse to believe ppl like this exist
Ah crap, I usually walk around my house on the balls of my feet. After 41 years, this might explain a couple things š
I do this when i don't wear shoes, and i put it down to growing up in a place i had to walk quietly. I tried stomping once and it feels weird.
Exactly! When Iām wearing shoes, I walk normal. Shoes off, I walk on my toes. Itās automatic.
I attribute that to heeled boots for me, take off my work boots and my brain knows how tall it was ten seconds ago so my heels come about that far up off the ground for a while, once Iāve had my shoes off a while I walk regular
This is how humans walked before shoes with hard soles came around. Once I tried it, it was more comfortable to walk like that with no shoes on, and having a toddler around, it reduces the risk of a painful LEGO duplo under the feet. š
Your tendons have probably shortened over those 40 years and it would be painful to start walking "normally" now.
I was going to say, undiagnosed mental health issues mostly likely is the cause. Disassociating perhaps due to isolation?
I was going to say; I did/do toe walking and certainly hiss when something falls off the table because of my own clumsiness; but I was diagnosed early so it just always..was. Other than that, I'm pretty damn human.
I never associated any of that with animalism though (people with Aspergers often have tight achilles tendons, hence the toe walking, a hiss is just reacting without using hurtful words.)
I tend to think that things like territorialism, tribalism, sexual violence, boasting/arrogance, bigotry, lack of temperence etc are more "Simian" than any physical or sensory quirk.
Dang I got to that part of the post and raced to the comments to mention it adds up.
And cerebral palsy...
ā¦..oh fuck. I owe my sister a 20
Was coming to the comments to say exactly this.
You'll notice these people define animal behaviors very simplisticly as noises they make, changing their walk, etc. But animal behavior is extremely complex and varies greatly from humans, such as: prey drive, competitive mating, killing non biological children, fighting for territory, defense mechanisms like defecation or vomiting (very common in the wild), and marking territory with urine. These things all fall under social lines that no one would willingly cross as a human but are all extremely common for animals and any nature documentary would disprove that their behaviors are animalistic at all.
I saw a lot of this in the 2010s when Millennials were the same age Gen Z is now and personally I feel like disassociating like this is just a part of late teen to early 20s life
When I was a teen I moved to a new city, and new high school. I knew no one and was pretty lonely. There was one kid on the bus who obviously was into metal and punk and so I sat next to him and made a friend. He invited me over to his house to hang out.
I got there and we went up into his room and what followed was insanity. This kid, I learned, didn't really have any friends, and his home life was a wreck, his family were neglectful, and I suspected they were at least physically abusive.
He had developed a set of very specific fantasies that he wholly believed in. That he was a werewolf changeling, that his family really weren't his family, but he had been swapped with their real child to be raised among humans. He had supernatural powers and that he had detected me even before I got on the bus that day.
He claimed to have sensed me moving to the city, and that I was like him, a changeling werewolf, but I just hadn't known about it like him.
He tried to tell me that he was going to awaken my powers, and that we would form a pack.
Then he tried to kiss me.
So, yeah, I hopped up and said "I gotta get home, it's getting late!" And I bolted the fuck outta there lickety split. From that day on I sat on the opposite end of the bus from wherever he was, thankful that the bus picked him up first.
I feel like his fantasies were a coping mechanism and that he was trying to get me involved because he was lonely, neglected, abused, and confused.
I don't know what became of him. I hope he got the help he needed.
when he leads the successful Werewolf Uprisings of 2029 you're going to feel pretttty silly
Bro is the Alpha Wolf Final Boss lol
Holy shit this is sad
Please don't give them any ideas
Well that's the thing; they wouldn't do any of this. No matter how committed they are to believing they're an animal they're never going to do these things in public or in their homes because someone else would draw the line for them, assuming they don't draw the line themselves. There would be actual consequences, and no matter how hard they try to make the point that they're an animal they wouldn't do anything that results in real possibly life-affecting consequences
My experiences watching the furry and anime clubs at my college from a safe distance between 2007-2012 say that yes, they do act like that in public. Cons now? They still do it.
Did you even read the conversation you hopped into? You claiming you see furries killing children and competitively mating at conventions?
I'm on your side but I feel the need to point out that as a retired anime con dork I have definitely seen behavior akin to public competitive mating go down.
Good point š
Yeah but āthese thingsā are the brutal realities of animal life, what were mentioned above.
No one is disputing furries are in fact still acting fucking weird as shit to this day.
Yes, and "these things" were very much specified by the same person as being animalistic behaviours such as urinating for territorial control and killing children.
Interesting to say I'm "jumping down people's throats" when you're the one making obviously false outrageous claims just because you wanted to jump into the "hurr durr furry bad amirite guys wheeze knee slap" circlejerk. Kinda weird man.
So they in fact would kill other peopleās childrens?
So you're saying you have seen furries defecate themselves and/or kill babies in public?
It's too late. The otherkin/therian trend already came back around on tiktok by using Dissociative Identity Disorder as the vehicle, and also using "mental health" as a shield from being countered.
I'm an older millennial and it's funny how cyclical these things are. Trying to find your way in weird ways is literally all teenagers do. It's developmentally normal for them to be weird little shits. I was a weird little shit. You were a weird little shit. Chicks were weird little shits. Most of the time things just even out over time. It's really not that serious most of the time but people act like this is New and Crazy haha
It's like they've forgotten all about tumblr
I can confirm I was a weird little shit, but I grew out of it after my mid 20s. The same thing basically happened with the otherkin I saw around 2010; they got older and stopped being so adamant about it
Some of the mechanisms still exist, but are not suited for modern social contracts. Put a human in isolation long enough and they will guard their 4 walls with shit and piss.
Yeah I never got into the animal/human spaces myself but when I read this kind of thing it reminds me of myself at 14/15 feeling so different from everyone else and desperately wanting to be special somehow to justify it.
True, I feel like most otherkin and therians are just young people desperately trying to belong or find something interesting about themselves. This is how you get this most basic stuff, what feels like cultural preconceptions of how xyz animal acts that has nothing or very little to do with reality, almost like a childrenās cartoon.
On the other hand, there absolutely exist those of us that arenāt shallow caricatures and actually know what we are about. Iām a spiritual otherkin, so I cannot exactly speak for therians and psychological kin, but if you are at all interested in a more nuanced perspective, you have to look deeper than Tumblr. Or Discord. Or the Reddit communities. Or, I shudder at the mere mention, TikTok. There are some very knowledgeable kin and therians spread about in distant corners of the web, they are justā¦ hard to find.
Ok, you can't just leave after dropping a bomb like "I'm a spiritual otherkin" and not elaborating.
You've not been on the Internet long? People do this kind of stuff CONSTANTLY. There's a whole plague of kids going "I see PICTURES in my MIND! imagination? No.... I'm channeling fictive alterkin from dimension Q!"
I've NOT been at this side of the internet lol
You know... As somebody who works in the field of wildlife conservation/environmental sciences and spent much of my younger life with my face in a book or out in the field collecting soil samples and monitoring animal behavior...
People like this who have some weird obsession with thinking they are/were animals in a past life really bother me in some way I can't explain. Jeffrey, you're not the soul of a cat who found its way into a human body. I'm sorry, but the "hissing" shit is all in your brain.
It also shows me these people don't have an iota of knowledge about animal behavior let alone their own... But at the same time I live by the phrase "if you aren't hurting anyone then keep doing you, buddy."
Edit: Autocorrect
āTheyāre areā hurt my brain when I read it
They are hurting people though, because they use terms like "dysphoria" to explain their delusions and it really undermines the legitimacy of trans people.
And people who suffer from dysphoria and aren't trans too
Well, I didn't know they did that. That's ridiculous.
I'll take undiagnosed autism for 500, please.
Itās called autism.
Add some sprinkles of shameless attention-seeking
Obligatory https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LtH7l-dhHZQ
The last woof took me out lmao
Pretty sure this is just undiagnosed autism
This sounds like autism. No offense to people with autism, just some of the shit he's talking about sounds like it (toe walking, trouble verbalizing emotions ie wanting to make sounds instead)
Remember: these same kind of people attend conventions with signs reminding them to shower.
Dude has straight up never heard of autism I guess.
As someone who used to identify like this as a kid: I completely agree. Just wanted to feel special, loved nature and animals, felt like I didnāt fit in and was looking for a community. Itās pretty cringe but also pretty harmless as long as it stays a phase.
This is therian stuff right?
They exist, but it doesn't really bother me. I don't care what people believe about themselves- as long as it doesn't involve me or my life directly.
This sounds like it's actually autism and they were never given a diagnosis or any resources. Not cringe, actually very interesting
I think my inner identity is just a pile of goop. Still depressed. Still tired.
Ugh these people had a huge community āorherkinā on tumblr back in the day. I thought they all evolved into the new faking disorders idiots on TikTok
Listen, this is coming from a furry.
I think the Therian movement is indicative of a bigger issue in the human culture - it's the denial of your humanity and all that comes with it. These kids mentally would rather be anything other than human and are blurring the lines between positive fantasy play (cosplaying or being a furry) and being able to healthily cope with their reality.
I don't think public ridicule is good for them at all... I think they all need a loving caring adult in their lives and a good therapist :(
Fine by me.
Just leave them be? If they wanna be weird then let them dawg, it's that simple
They're being left be, nobody is killing them or some shit. It's very cringeworthy however, and deserving of being posted here
I don't know man. Sounds like mental illness to me.
I don't really see the problem tbh? Like sure, it's weird. But some people are weird. They're not hurting anyone, so why should we care how they see themselves?
I just don't understand how you care so much. Is it weird? Yes. And?
Like they're not hurting you or intruding on your life, they're in their own community talking about things that don't affect you or harm anyone.
There are much worse things than people defying social norms on the internet
It's cringe and I felt this belonged in this sub. This post is not hurting you or intruding on your life. So how about you stop being so offended? It really isn't that deep.
You're a child
Also this post definitely could hurt someone
Serious question, Do they also shit on the floor and have their parents clean up after them every time?
no.
A lot of the people who think this are kids, and many have autism, but donāt get diagnosed. They donāt know exactly how to put it into words or describe it to themselves, so they try to make it make sense with something like this.
All in all, itās kids. Let them have their imagination.
So... How do they even dissociate themselves from the furry community/fursonas? The autism angle aside, these are just fancy words to say they're part of furrydom.
Eh, not exactly. Itās the difference between crossdressing and being transgender. One is something you do for fun, a cool hobby, the other is a much deeper identity, a core part of who you are and how you perceive the world around you. Itās difficult to put into words. Iām otherkin, different than the person in the post, but I think I get the gist of it.
thatās a great way of explaining it!
Sounds like autism with extra steps.
Fuck that's cringe
arenāt therians in the DSM as a mental illness
Okay i mean the past life things is obviously strange, or at least is completely incompatible with my world view. But how is any of this problematic? They didn't even push any sort of opinion or preference, they literally just shared an experience and that's somehow a problem?
Id personally hate to live in a world where no one has a single unusual/interesting thought or feeling.
(I literally have no context outside this post, if people like this have been elsewhere problematic, fine, but then the image should relate to that and not just them saying something inconsequential on the internet)
Sub name: Cringepics
The picture in question is very, very much cringe. Does it hurt anyone? Not really. Does it belong here? Yes.
When did anyone say it's problematic? And also, it's very much a great issue. If I ignored the fact that this person has an almost 100% chance of being neurodivergent, then otherwise it would be an issue. Normal people should not be saying this shit, it's detrimental to society. But aside from my strong opinion, overall this is a cringe picture, and it was posted in the correct place.
Not commenting on your other statement's cause i don't have the energy for an argument. As for it being cringe i guess i can sorta see it, i think my idea of cringe is maybe just a bit more forgiving. Point taken.

Honestly, as long as you're not hurting anybody else, do as you please.
I always go "aahhhh" when I sit down on the couch. Pretty much the same thing?
Haha, I love making fun of strangers. I think people who act different are weird and shouldn't do it, they should be normal like me, lol.
I hate that you're being down voted, like this person went to a subreddit for therians and is shocked that there's people talking about being therians. Like you don't have to believe it but like why care so much?
I'm not shocked. A lot of people reinforce their egos by putting others down, and do not like to be called out on it. I feel like it's particularly prevalent in "nerd" cultures. People get made fun of for whatever sect of nerdom they're in, so to feel better they find an even more niche or less excepted sect and make fun of that like, "at least we're not like those weirdos" it's sad.
People believe this about gender too. They identify as something they're physically not. It's weird.
Some people call it therian, I call it attention-seeking.
I think some people are just bored or not satisfied with their lives and imagine theyāre different. Children do it all the time but most people outgrow it. Some donāt.
Maybe you just like to play pretend, and you like to think this somehow makes you special and unique.
Yo let people do what they want
When you get really into meditation, you can sometimes unlock past life memories. If youāre not careful, you can send yourself into a big identity crisis, that takes years to resolve, if you try. But you sound like this for a while.
Assuming you are referencing that some male people identify as women rather than men, there is a very big difference between altering your social identity and claiming to be an entirely different species of animal. As much as people like to claim that theyāre demons or monsters, a trans person is still a just human and never claims to be otherwise.
By the way, the whole ākids wanting to identify as a cat/dog/attack helicopterā thing is just republican wives tales and moral panic fear-mongering. A minimal amount of research and fact checking will help clear that up for you.
Very bizarre. But is it any less bizarre than a male telling you heās a woman or a woman telling you heās a man? I have no problem with it personally, but we are pushed to embrace those ideas so I guess why not this?
Male/female ā man/woman. Male and female are biological sexes. Man and woman are social constructs. I know there wasnāt that concrete of a distinction between the two in the past, so I understand your confusion. Now thereās a lot of very helpful resources and thorough explanations online if you are confused about anything š
Is race a social construct?
It is! I actually wasnāt familiar with that concept when I read your question and my knee jerk reaction was no, but I did a bit of research and studies say that it is. Thereās even a ELI5 question about it lol I guess the definition of race is more concretely specified than it was before, similar to male/female and man/woman. Iām going to look into it more and learn more about it!
Okay so if race is a social construct, like gender, why canāt a person change their race and identify with a new one they prefer? How is that meaningfully different than ppl that identify with another gender and change to it?
To me it seems like if you embrace transgender ppl, you logically can not deny transracial ppl either. Because the same criticisms of why ppl donāt like transracialism (you were not born into that culture, your identity is just a caricature of what you think that culture is and not the actual culture, itās offensive and insulting to ppl actually born in that culture, etc.) can and have all been applied to transgenderism as well.
If a transracial person is just a loser with an unhealthy obsession with a different race, why is a transgender person not just a loser with an unhealthy obsession with a different gender?
Hmmā¦ Truth is, Iām not sure at all! While currently I personally donāt agree with the implications of ātransracialismā, I think that we as a society are progressing towards a world without strict definitions and categories. A world where everyone is closer together. I guess, maybe thatās not a bad thing.
In the mean time, this article was an interesting read. Iām sorry I couldnāt answer your question very well, Iām really not very familiar with the topic!
The article you posted does not give any real distinction between the two, it claims that race results in generational oppression whereas gender does not. This is provably false since LGBT families have experienced similar generational oppression and being LGBT means your family members are significantly more likely to be LGBT too.
The article also claims that there are no qualities that essential to each gender. This is verifiably false, presence of Y chromosome with a penis is a male, only X chromosome with a vagina is female. Anyone that does not fall into this have horrible sexual disabilities which results in terrible medical complications and are literally infertile. This is called being intersex. This is how gender is defined across the world. Your article is misinformed and seems heavily biased.
Again, male/female ā man/woman. Male/female is not gender. Male/female is sex. Man/woman is gender. Sex is a physical attribute. Gender is a social expression.
I know that these concepts can be confusing, so I understand your frustration.
Huge percentage of the world will disagree with you on that lmao.
Maybe 10-20 years ago, but the thing about science and language is that both are constantly evolving. Yale medical school reference.
Also, think of this as it relates to non-human species. A squirrel can be male or female, but a male squirrel is not referred to as a āmanā. A male squirrel has a penis and testes like a male human, but it is not a man because it does not socially present itself as a man the way a human male can.
LOL ok. You do you.
Toe-walking and vocalisations are very common traits of autism.
