He just keeps going... Someone needs to take away his phone
My kingdom for a 6 without a PR scandal
If Olise is 60m, Eze should be around the same no? I guess there might be HG tax, but if 60m, we should definitely get him in.
He has a £60m release clause + add ons and I don’t expect Palace to let him go for anything less
I'm okay with not getting a renowned signing. Bring me some more VDV and Vicario esque signings
Rumors of a United/Juve Mason Greenwood for Chiesa potential swap deal. It would really suck to miss out on him if he’s a target because of someone who shouldn’t be allowed back on a pitch.
Last I heard Mason Shitewood was going to SS Nazio?
Ffs man he can’t stay fit.
Yeah he clearly has muscular problems/injury but. But he missed a bunch of games from 22/23 due to fitness with the ACL recovery.
If he’s recovered and we have proper depth with BJ/Deki/Son/Werner to rotate, could he be that guy we all desperately wanted during the Conte era.
Hes clearly a top talent and Italy’s best forward this Euro. I’d take the chance if the other top wingers of Neto, Raphina, Nico are off the board.
Olise is gone and it’s a real shame. One of my favourite players to watch this season. Absolute magician.
However, this means we should now be going all in on Eze. There’s no distractions or excuses. Get this man in.
Nah if anything this makes Eze even harder, it was widely reported that Palace would only consider selling one of the two. I think I read that Eze has a release clause but activating that would not be easy
Why do I feel like England and France will both scumbag their way to the finals? ha
Gakpo is so damn mid
Van de Ven at LB would've had this put to bed and hour ago
Nah, subbing him on would've completely fucked France over in the same vein as us subbing on Johnson. He should've been sent on around the time Depay came off.
VAR at this tournament so far: not terrible.
VAR with English refereeing team: takes ages and still comes to the wrong decision.
The Dutch just got Anthony Taylor’d lmfao guys dropping clangers on the big stage. So far it’s PL and La Liga refs trying to one up each other on being shit
Fucking had to be an English VAR official, Christ
I was thinking, what if Tottenham tried to get Depay? It seems to me that he has the abilities for our type of forward. The only downside could be his personality i think. What do u guys think?
This would of been great like 2-3 years ago when he made the jump from OL to Atlético.
We deserve better
Last time the Euros happened in 2021 we didn’t sign a player until the last week of July so don’t expect any incomings anytime soon
Journos said we'd do business early like last year though. I get that Eze is busy right not but I hope we're at least negotiating with Palace now, we need him for the pre season
Been trying to explain to people that we only get early signings in non major international tournament years. This summer has Euros, Copa América and Concacaf going on. Almost no chance of big business going on early days.
The Spurs rumour mill is really not delivering at the minute
Olise was never a realistic option considering the clubs who were in for him. If we're going after a high-profile player, it needs to be someone who's willing to accept lower wages and trophy odds for more game time/development opportunities. It's always going to be harder to win over players with a long-term sporting project rather than immediate trophies and wages, but that's the reality of our position.
The one thing we need to be able to offer is wages that are at least on par with Arse and Liverpool. Otherwise we're basically a Brighton level team that'd be relying on constantly scouting gems, when we are not actually even good at that.
There's a clear correlation between wages and long term success, and if we are not willing to step up on that front then we might as well just give up and become mid table trash.
the same thing is true for Nico Williams. We have to go for realistic targets.
I'm still hopeful for Eze but it also is possible that palace keep him. I guess we'll see.
What a surprise he goes to a club that can activate his release clause, hands out +€15m wages like candy and plays UCL 😮
I thought he would go to Newcastle, which showed great ambition by being interested and definitely had a real chance.
I’m ootl, who went where?
Olise chose Bayern
Well, that’s not really surprising. Were we even going for him?
Didn’t seem that way.
Honest question. Are we not moving on anyone in the window yet because of the Euros and players not ready to think about transfers?
One theory I saw was that if we sign Eze that will probably change other business due to the expense, he’s English, etc. and so it could be that we are trying to see if that works out before signing other players. Euros likely playing a part, too, as is the fact that we are much more secretive now.
euros is definitely playing a role.
other teams are making announcements...
They're mostly just chasing players who aren't busy with the Euros, though, or are on release clauses. Our targets are a bit more tied up with the competition and not wanting distractions.
I think Eze and Nico Williams both could be bought by triggering their release clauses. We could possibly go for one of them before the Euros end.
We could, but Nico is happy where he is and on extortionate wages and both could suffer a long term injury during the Euros. Signing anyone for big money when there's that many games still to play in a short window is a huge gamble. I don't think we see any movement until the schedule slows down after the groups or we get eliminated.
Risk of injury is a good point
we are looking to sign homegrown players.
A player can’t sign contracts, have medicals while he’s at the euro and most of them want to focus on the tournament anyway.
Good point. I knew someone smarter than me would have an answer. Thanks.
Griezmann doing his best Timo impersonation
In what world does his going to Bayern have anything to do with us?
Were we really in for Olise?
If anything I would think this would make Eze deal more difficult.
Olise was never coming here, we can't even chalk this one up to the grudge. Now if they signed Eze we could make a case...
A gentle reminder Eze has a release clause. And Palace are a selling club who desperately need investment in their ground.
Palace are not a selling club lol. See Zaha. Stubborn bastards. That being said a release clause makes things interesting.
Levy won't pay a single upfront payment of 60 million
Thats not how release clause work in the UK only Europe
They have finally got a good manager since they made the PL a decade ago and would sell two of their lynchpins?
Both players have release clauses it doesn't matter what they want to do.
Their owner wants to sell and they've taken out a big loan secured against future player sales. They look absolutely set to cash in
How is it work then. I can't understand
Paul okeefe was talking about it a few days back and honestly it's really confusing. The outcome was basically Palace want a big chunk up front but there's no set in stone rules with UK ones like there is in europe
A release clause that has to paid in one lump sum to be activated which Spurs don't do. When have Palace shown they're a selling club? They kept Zaha until the very end.
That's not true they don't in the UK. They kept Zaha 6/7 years ago before the ground was falling apart and they have different investment now
Well, how does it work in the UK? You're telling me Spurs can dictate the payment scheme as long as it totals £60m or whatever the clause is?
They still haven't shown they're a selling club, they just got a cash injection through Olise's release clause. Reports say they won't sell both Eze and Olise in the same window, and now they have no reason to negotiate Eze's sale unless Spurs match the clause without any Palace input.
Uk release clauses aren't the same as European ones for tax reasons supposedly. Paul Okeefe was explaining it on his feed a few days ago and it's pretty confusing. But we wouldn't have to pay it all on one lump sum (we could include players if we want to and apparantly they like Rodn and skipp)
Also regarding palaces finances their owner wants to leave and cash in. And on top of that they took out a big loan a few months ago secured against future player sales
Not saying we will definitely get Eze but it's defintely not off the table. Everyone's known Olise was leaving for months now, all the noise around Geuhi and Eze wouldn't be there if Olise sale was enough
Release clauses don't actually have to be paid in one lump sum in the PL. Abroad they do, but not here under British law. It's all up for negotiation. Palace of course will ask for as much as possible early though and that's where the back and forth struggles will come in
I reckon we end up paying 70% up front to secure it before others can bid and the rest structured
So Eze stays at Palace then.
He has a release clause
Olise to bayern is huge. Sane’s days look numbered, who says we don’t put in a cheeky bid for him?
Sane would actually cook for us but not sure he’s keen on moving even on loan
Perhaps Kompany doesn’t rate him hence the Olise deal, but Sane was insanely good at City when he played with Kompany
Would love Sane on this team
Isn't he on a hefty wage though?
Ndombele has left the club so why not put some of his 200k wage towards Sane’s wages?
Maybe because Sane currently earns twice as much…
Sane on loan then. Or Sane to Arabia.
Olise to Bayern now should mean Eze is off the table.
He's got a release clause, so Palace doesn't have much of a say if someone wants to trigger it.
From a squad perspective it makes so much more sense to get Olise over Eze. Eze is a lovely player but the difference between him and Madders is minuscule compared with Olise vs Brennan/Kulu.
It makes even more sense to get Mbappe, but he's off to Madrid.
Olise being a fit is all well and good, but he clearly had his sights set on the top, top clubs. So he's largely irrelevant to our plans, no matter how much sense you think he makes.
Ornstein just said Olise’s joining Bayern
Doesn’t help that he was being played left wing when he’s a pure 10
Everyone was awful against Denmark
I’m not sure what Southgate is doing is making anyone look good.
By “we” you mean you’re Dutch? Because we (Spurs) are not weak
Micky is anything but weak.
haha fuck you chelsea
Let’s celebrate after we get Eze
Please explain so I can celebrate with you
Olise went to bayern when most of their fans thought Chelsea were gonna get him.
Ahhh this is awesome. I love some good schadenfreude!
Olise has gone to Bayern
Gordon has to start against Slovenia. Being able to replace Bellingham with Foden with half an hour to go is no bad thing - especially in a tournament with closely packed games where you really don't want your star player getting leg knack.
Yep I’d go with Gordon too and move TAA to take over Waker I’d start Mainoo and hook Foden at half time for Palmer if his (Foden’s) form continues in his preferred position. But this is Southgate and he doesn’t have the ruthlessness in squad selection for 5 international games a year. As someone said accurately, it’s the same as it was with Sven, picking the 11 best players not the best team.
Links with Jonathan David are kind of depressing.
Have to hope it’s just bottom of the barrel transfer rumors because no one knows anything
Im Canadian and hes the most average striker I can think of
I'll admit I've only gotten to watch maybe 30 minutes each of the past two Austria games, but that Baumgartner looks like he could be something. Seems to play in an advanced / creative role so is there a way he could be a potential option if Eze is too much? More than happy to be told I'm way off base though
Are you watching Matty Cash? 🎶
lmao I rate it.
Does it look to anyone else that Kane is playing through injury again? This is exactly how he played for us many times when he was still injured. Sure if you give him good chances he can still score but won’t contribute anything else.
He’s barely sprinting and his touch and passing are a bit ropey. I know he’s gotten a bit slower over time but nothing like this and his pressing is much better than being shown.
I really hope he’s not because it’s cost us before and it will cost England as well.
Wasn't he injured towards the end of the season for Bayern, or am i wrong? If I remember correctly, i think it was a back injury or something.
I think it's 30% he's not fully fit and 70% Southgate's tactics
He's just got nothing to do. Where's he supposed to sprint to? Southgate sits back, so what's he going to do pressing without pressing partners?
Doubt he's injured, he's just not getting the ball in anything approaching an advantageous position.
Can any owners of the 1978 retro kit weigh in on how breathable and quick-drying it is? How is the cotton vs a polyester or dri-fit kit
If we want a similar player to Nico Williams that’s actually somewhat attainable than we should be in for Olise. Even Newcastle are looking at Olise ffs
I think Desire Doue works perfectly fine and we are getting linked to him.
Never heard of him. Get him in
Unfortunately that's too ambitious expensive. Let's just settle for Werner and a returning Troy Parrott as the forward additions 🙂
Is that you Daniel.
Headers from bald players are the most underrated goals
This Poland vs Austria match feels awkward for some reason but I can’t quite put my finger on it
This Austria team would smoke England
Controversial Take: Richy + Toney is my go to choice for this summer in terms of strikers. I think a partnership of them two together would work well especially if Ange wants/trusts Toney.
I'd prefer Guirassy over both of them (but we haven't been linked with him for some reason) but if we are talking about bringing in a striker in alongside Richy I think going for a buy low/premier league proven option like Toney makes a lot of sense. I will stand by that. Obviously I hope they do their research on his attitude/gambling issues but if Ange thinks he can trust toney to deliver, I'd be very happy for this signing to happen.
ASI to help set up tactics and scout of cheap players that for the system.
Don Levy will do anything to avoid spending
what is this?
some AI BS, got it
According to a few Serie A watchers Chiesa hasn't been very good even when he has been fit. Feels a bit of a potential trap maybe
He'd be as big a signing as Dybala
On the other hand we could never sign a player like Chiesa from Juve after a brilliant season. If we actually want him we'll have to make the call if it's just a temporary dip
He's been poor since the last euros supposedly. If it is just a dip its quite a long one
Chiesa played mostly as the 2nd striker behind Vlahovic in a defensive 352 for a pretty poor Juve side.
He'd be playing in his best position as a right winger in a very attacking system that has managed to make Johnson and Werner look very good at times.
He'd be class for us
Can't really find anywhere confirming that? Seems to have been mostly a left winger.
2 different Serie A experts on 2 different pods now have said the last time he put some decent firm together was the euros 2 years ago. I can't say I've watched him much but they watch it every week so I'm going off them
Ask any Fiorentina or Juve supporter and they'd pretty much all say Chiesa is best off the right wing, although he can also do a job on the left as well.
I'm not saying he's been consistent in the last year or 2 or anything of the sort, but he's still a very talented player with loads of ability and our system is perfect for a pacey, direct winger like Chiesa to thrive in
I completely agree on paper but he's been sub par for 2 years and had pretty nasty injuries. It's a huge gamble to go for him. I don't doubt when he's good he's very good, it just doesn't seem like he's been good for quite a while
Would’ve rathered taking a risk with him than Werner
Why are we not giving a 21 year old 50k more a week than Virgil van Dijk gets??? Where is the god damn ambition??? Why should we try to be smart and mimic the way Liverpool is operating, if we can find some inspiration in Uniteds demise....
Why aren’t we going for a left winger that CLEARLY doesn’t want to leave Spain ffs. Levy do better and pay 300k p/week pls.
People are idiots here, you gotta break the bank for a generational talent, even if his stats are the same per 90 as Werner. Wage structures exist to be broken
Yeah definitely, ambition is starting the season with the same front 3 that we had last season! It worked so well after all!
What's the point of signing world class talent if we can just sign Timo Werner instead, and hope that at the age of 30 he learns how to score goals. That's the way to winning trophies for sure.
Werner just turned 28, and he’s a backup to Son. Son is still world class off the left - don’t forget that because of his poor performances at CF the second half of the season.
Nico Williams on the right would be great but we’re not paying €300k p/w (what he’s reportedly looking for in his next contract) for a 21 year old. Very very few clubs are. Once you start paying that for him, everyone else in the squad will be looking at doubling their wages (most of our players are well under £100k p/w).
Look, I'm not deluded to think that the Nico Williams transfer will happen, but we seriously need to start paying wages much higher than 100k. We are not going to attract talent on prestige on success, so we have to make up for it with money. That's just how it is.
As for our current frontline - it's not good enough. Son's not getting any younger and it shows that having to carry our whole attack weighs on him. Richarlison is likeable but often injured and streaky. Werner is a fine enough backup and nothing more than that. Johnson might turn out to be good, but it's just as likely he will remain a pace merchant with a decent low cross. And lastly, I don't actually rate Kulusevski very much, I think he looked horrific for about a year and a half and does not produce reliably.
My point is that a big transfer in attack could completely change our team, just like the Van Dijk or Rice transfers changed Liverpool and Scum.
Dang! maybe if we could sign world class talent that had better stats p90 than Werner we’d actually bite
lmao
Being a Chelsea fan must be hard. They sign so many players how could you possibly remember all of their names?
This is astonishing https://x.com/BBCMOTD/status/1804046484389732465
Only relevant pundit from yesterday who's actually qualified to say anything was Thomas Frank and he said he'd have kept Kane on lmao
He was so respectful about it as well, so nice in the way he was like 'ermm personally....'
POK in the replies 😭😂
Three Lions fans tearing their hair out at Kane dropping back because of lack of service, but bringing their back line with him and so really only causing even more suffocation in the middle of the park. Us: First time eh?
Somehow our 3 most exciting players right now might genuinely all be centre backs
Sometimes the thought crosses my mind that a back 3/5 of VDV - Dragu - Romero with Udogie and Porro as wingbacks might be our best lineup until we sign a 6 but then I get Conte Vietnam flashbacks and the thought promptly vanishes
We signed Dragu because we had zero options at CB though. If we start playing a back three then we once again have zero options there, and need to go out and sign another one.
Back 5 is whatever main thing we should never do again is play a midfield 2 surrendering the midfield in every game the play
Tactics don’t work that way. You can play an attacking back 5. Where one of the CB or wing back occupies a midfield position.
You can but we didn't
We didn’t because conte didn’t want to.
Yeah and hence why I said I never want us to surrender the midfield in every game again. Not sure what you're arguing
What I’m trying to say is Conte was fine with surrendering the midfield because his system involves sitting deep and playing on the counter.
Ange on the other hand, uses a constant press so I could easily see Cuti occupying spaces higher up the pitch while the dragon and VDV stay back.
I’m not saying this will happen but just because you see a 3 CB in the lineup doesn’t mean we’re going to play terror ball.
So you're playing three CBs - but one of them's essentially a midfielder?
Literally said 5 atb was whatever and that the anti football approach to a midfield was my problem with late stage Conte
I might be dyslexic, will head to the doc.
Apologies for wasting your time.
No worries all good
Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen played a back 5 with incredible success.
With some caveat that Frimpong was as much of a winger as a defender but sure
Yeah but that’s what the wingbacks usually do in a back 3/5. Conte’s wingbacks sometimes played as strikers, wingback to wingback play was quite common
Agreed. Frimpong was even more extreme than most wing backs even those like Hakimi etc was my only point
I’d say add Brennan to that, already good numbers in his first season and a promising one (albeit, not what people expected for him to actually be).
people have so much PTSD about a back three that they’ve forgotten that you can play a back 3 and still be attacking dominating possession based and all that.
Just look at the downvotes and replies my other comment got. Roflmao
I’ve been vacationing in the r / threelions sub and it’s made me appreciate all you lovely people even more
Better takes here for sure lol.
I’m enjoying the madness tbh. It’s a guilty pleasure despite being English
Fans paying the highest ticket prices in the country but the club “can’t afford” to pay competitive wages compared to the other top clubs in the country. Sad, keep making excuses on the club’s behalf, I’m sure they appreciate you.
This sub is infested with bot accounts run by the club who gatekeep all content.
Take that tin foil hat off - some people just believe different things than you (shocking, I know)
Just have to ignore them from now on, beyond petty insults and downvotes they have nothing of substance to contribute.
The way your comments, which are spot on, are getting downvoted and are considered unpopular is so hilariously sad.
What I notice on this sub is whenever you're critical of the spending and ambition of the club, you only get called names or get downvoted, but I've yet to see people give good, logical reasoning as to why that opinion is "wrong"
Absolutely, this sub loves to dog pile on anyone that dares challenging the status quo. If you're not singing Levy's praises, thirsting for Conor Gallagher, or repeating "Brennan Johnson G/A" they get upset.
It's weird because I imagine deep down everyone wants Tottenham to improve, but I guess being "right" on the internet just matters more so they have no problem with shitting on ambition and celebrating another 4th-8th league finish.
they have no problem with shitting on ambition and celebrating another 4th-8th league finish.
And then when their own manager they love came out last season and said he expects a title challenge for this year, it was amazing to see many people racing to tell everyone how his quotes are taken out of context and how Ange doesn't actually expect that.
People are so scared of having high expectations, probably because they know we won't meet them, then they can't keep peddling nonsense about a never ending "process" that never seems to have a timeline other than "in a few years", yet after every 2-3 years, it's still "in a few years" or "we need another rebuild".
All the while, Levy keeps increasing his own salary and makes match going fans pay exorbitant ticket prices that increase nearly every year. And for what? So our wage bill remains closer to West Ham and Aston Villa than it does to the other big 6 teams.
We'll go get another Johnson for the same price because his wages are 60k a week and then you'll have fans coming at you with that "see, we do spend money!" bollox.
They're just happy Spurs are stuck in the same "challenge for 4th" cycle every year, despite revenue reaching new record highs, fans being told to pay even more for already expensive tickets, as long as they can say "I told you so" on the internet they simply don't care to see Spurs improve and challenge the top clubs.
The only way Spurs improve is if they increase the wage structure the same way they are increasing their revenue and ticket prices.
Who are you crying about? Williams? He’s spent his whole life in Spain, is being linked with teams like Barcelona, and you think he’d want to come to spurs who have won one trophy in his lifetime? And on top of that you want us to pay 300k a week for a player that had the same goal/assist output as Brennan Johnson, but in more games? I hope we sign him, but I doubt he’d have any interest in joining us.
If the player says no, he says no. Levy keeps increasing ticket prices, fan expectation should increase with it. No "we can't compete" excuses
Players don't care about what a club won before they joined, otherwise clubs like Nottingham Forest would be hoovering up all the talent. Put the money up and all of a sudden they'll be putting pen to paper no problem.
You can look at G/A numbers if you like but I'd recommend watching the two players actually play football, the difference is very clear.
That’s bullshit and you know it. A top player choosing between Chelsea and Bayern will choose the latter despite the fact that they will both happily pay the same money, just because the latter is in a much more competitive position (Olise).
Between us and Liverpool or City who do you think an ambitious young player would choose? There’s little chance it’d be us unless they’re guaranteed a starting spot and that’s more important for them than anything else.
Ambitious players absolutely care about on pitch success, especially at 21. You can get your bag later anyway, but most successful clubs are more than happy to pay the highest transfer fees and wages.
Interesting because Dragusin chose Tottenham over Bayern without starter guarantees, I guess he's just unambitious.
The conversation was about more money vs more success. I don’t think he came here for more money as Bayern reportedly were more than happy to pay what we’d be paying him. He came here because he’s more likely to play, and yes - he’d be more ambitious if he went to Bayern because he’s backed himself to become a starter there in a couple years time.
It's pretty funny how England's front 3 has the exact opposite problem of our Werner Son Johnson attack. No runners all ball hoggers while ours have zero ball retention and all runners
Kulusevski is our best forward in ball retention, unfortunately his form throughout 2024 dipped.
Ange insisting on playing him out of position at 10 definitely didn't help. He was much better on the right
There were some games (although few) that him playing at 10 worked but, I’ll say it, there’s just a lot of aspects in football that Kulu is lacking.
And a lot of things he excels at. Kulu on the right paired with a striker competent in the air is fine. Kulu on the right paired with Son at striker means defenders can just show him the inside since the cross isn't a threat making him predictable
Every Kane needs a Son and every Son needs a Kane
Still hurts how synergistic they were with each other and we still didn’t win anything ffs
Most prolific goal combination in PL history and nothing to show for it, meanwhile United can finish 8th and manage to win an FA cup
Had a same thought yesterday lmao
Number of players in our squad earning close to €300k a week: 0
Number of players with the age of 21 in our squad earning close to €300k a week: 0
Tottenham would be in the same position as Everton if some of you would call the shots.
I am not disagreeing with your point of paying competitive wages, but if 0 players earn 300k in our whole squad, then of course there are also 0 players earning 300k who are 21
I am not disagreeing with your point of paying competetive wages, but if 0 players earn 300k in our whole squad, then of course there are also 0 players earning 300k who are 21
idk why people think Nico Williams would be interested in coming here. He earns more than our highest earner already. Bilbao finished the same position as us, and will probably happily raise his wage if it comes to it.
Id give my left nut to be in Van De Ven’s presence, all the reason he needs tbh
Happily give him the 300k a week he reportedly wants? Bilbao? Don’t think so.
Bilbao have a strict rule of signing only Basque players, because of this they barely pay transfer fees, all of it goes into wages to maintain their Basque players.
Bilbao pay their players very well, because they pretty much never spend money on transfers.
They already give him 200k almost the same we pay Son.
Lineup time. How our squad would look like next season if we focus on Todibo and Calafiori instead of our usual targets/positions like 6, 9, Eze, etc.
edit: chill guys it’s only theoretical. geez
Fwiw I enjoy these posts
I’m happy you gave a diagram, as proof you have no idea what you’re on about.
The Xpert has spoken!
Hey man did you watch spurs last season?
As an Asian who’s been mostly away for a week and so just caught up to the whole bentancur sonny thing I’d just like to first say what the fuck and second offer sincere condolences to those who’ve had to watch this whole thing unfolds in real time
