If that’s what your toilet looks like - time for doctor
I mean, that’d be one hell of a bidet
rectum, damn near killed em.
THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS
It’s crazy how most of the top level comments are from two people getting downvoted. Scroll down and check it out hahah
A pair of broken bots, trying to stir up conflict I presume…
Jagoff turds dyed it red overnight. I swear to Tom Skilling if this has to do with fauxactivism to get clout on social media...
Edit. Yes, confirmed. This is a fauxactivist statement. I'll give you one guess what it's about...
Yea the chicago mayor that doesn’t impact Israel / global politics, and the park district needs to clean up this mess. This only pisses people off you’re not getting anyone to support your cause with this. If the group that did this cleaned it up maybe people may support their phony activism
And I don’t think the namesake royal family cares that much either.
Edit; yeah it’s not the Palace, it’s a diff Buckingham
it’s not named for the royal family (their name is Windsor or Mountbatten-Windsor)
The point is literally to get people thinking/talking about the topic. Not that I agree with the methods but acting like the only protests should be for those who directly make decisions people want changed is ignorant
Edit since the post is locked, but people really don’t understand that if even one person becomes more informed than they were before then the protestors consider it a win.
This only gets people talking about how stupid the protestors are. It doesn’t help Palestinians at all.
Did we forget there's a war going on? What am I supposed to think about a vandalized symbol of the city?
You’d be surprised at the number of people who truly don’t pay attention anything outside of their personal lives. It’s not to get the attention of folks who do keep up with current events.
Someone I work with recently admitted they thought Russia was at war with Gaza and didn’t get why Israel was involved.
In general people don’t care about Palestine.
That would include the entire rest of the Middle East, none of which countries admit Palestinian refugees.
why would they? when even the surrounding arab nations don’t a fuck about “Palestinians”, they’re the rejects of the region because all they do is bitch fit and cause unnecessary chaos
Lol that is embarrassing for that person. I guess I'm saying what new thing (or even old thing) would anyone take away from this vandalism? Just seems cowardly and without any message.
They aren't trying to gain support. They're showing dominance.
Wouldn’t want to annoy people when talking about children being blown to bits
You’re talking about Sudan, right?
Get lost
don’t forget to mention all the hostages
You mean the ones who were mostly killed by the IDF?
This conflict has run into the issue where activists have so little awareness of how the actions are being perceived that they are overshadowing their own cause.
The truth is, their “cause” is entirely self-serving. They don’t care about Palestinians — they care about how their stance on this conflict makes them look and, by extension, how they feel about themselves.
So they take their videos and run to their tiktok or twitter echo chambers for likes and views or whatever form of digital validation they crave. And if they get attention for pulling stunts and pissing people off like this, they will consider themselves successful — because they’re not actually trying to effect any change, their only goal is attention and validation.
Yes! I know someone on Instagram that got arrested at a protest and has to do community service. Every time they finish their community service, they post a selfie and say how shitty everyone else is that isn't doing something for Palestine. It definitely comes off to me as just trying to pat themselves on the back.
I have believed in a two-state solution long before the HAMA'S attack. I am appalled and against the slaughter going on in Palestine by Israel. With that said, you're delusional if you think acts like this would cause people to jump on the "pro Palestinian" bandwagon. It will align more people against you than with you. There are much better ways. Use your brain.
Holy projection batman
75% of people disapproved of MLK’s acts of protest too. I guess he should have “used his brain” and protested differently too.
But as he said in his Letter from Birmingham Jail, the greatest stumbling block towards any kind of progress will continue to be “the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action";”
Edit: Lmao. Downvoting the literal point that MLK spent his life making. Good job, everyone.
I agree, what’s going on in Sudan is terrible.
Lmao that OP on Twitter is claiming it's a false flag
"No way the same people who organized the peaceful protests did this"
Boy there were (still are) tons of antisemitic vitriol being CHANTED at those "peaceful protests"
Gonna say right now, as someone who genuinely supports the people of Palestine, I hate how little is being done about the assholes in our movement. I want peace without costing innocent lives or spreading antisemitic hatred.
Claiming "false flag" is the laziest and most stupid deflection one can do
Today, in the loop, like one hour ago, I heard a small Gaza protest on Franklin chanting "we will honor all our martyrs"
Like OK bro, pretty specific language for the side that has a martyrdom fund AKA "pay for slay"
I’ll give you one guess what it’s about…
It’s OBVIOUSLY tied to PETA protesting outside Wieners Circle. No mention of what message was graffitied next to the fountain. So we can only assume it was a message urging us to eat Portillo’s vegan hot dogs.
/s
Man I'm starting feel like people on here just don't like protests of any form.
That’s not a real word.
6 days ago you were posting about how you live in Richmond- why are you even spamming this sub
He's the biggest troll on this sub, it's amazing mods haven't banned him yet.
It's easier to shitpost online than it is to actually make a difference in real life
New words aren’t until they are
My guess was PETA
It's closed half the summer anyway thanks to nascar and all the other bullshit that closes the park.
Yall can be mad about palestine all you want but please atleast dont destroy our cities holy fuck
please atleast dont destroy our cities holy fuck
I think that’s probably how most Palestinians feel as well. Except in their case “destroy our cities” refers to carpet bombing and missile strikes at hospitals and not..red dye and spray paint by a decorative fountain.
Lmao
I knew this was Palestinian protesters before I even opened the article. Y’all are starting to get annoying.
Miyazaki loves poison swamps so much he wanted to bring one to Chicago
Cue "Hello? HR?" meme
By the way - so freakin good. But so difficult. I almost reverted back to my “throwing the N 64 controller” days.
Or Warhammer
You know it’s bad when you were truly hoping this was PETA
:(
Starting?
Starting?
Starting?
These people don’t care about Palestine or any other cause they hate this society. They are Marxists through and through, hell-bent on disrupting the capitalist global system. Ultimately, they are narcissists who don’t have the means to acquire the power they feel they deserve.
Even the Capitalists are disrupting the capitalist system, you're imagining ideals here. using extremely vague terms doesn't convey anything
Maybe stop paying Israel to invade Palestine then.
Maybe consider that nobody in this thread or perhaps even city is paying anybody?
Jesus fucking Christ.
Yes. We are as U.S. citizens.
Don’t worry, I got yah. Should be helpful for those who like benefiting in America but ruining it for everyone else
Man bet you were all about freedom fries back in 2004
Y'all are really gonna replace "Genocide Joe" with Donald "Hates all Muslims with a passion and would gladly see them wiped from the face of the earth" Trump and call that a moral victory.
“Biden will have plenty of time to eat ice cream in November” is an actual poster used
Besides the point of the inauguration being in January, they use that when Trump is Mr “ only I get two scoops!”?
No, Trump is going to spend his first year in office prosecuting anyone and everyone who ever looked at him sideways.
He doesn't give a shit about you or your mom or your family or me or my kids or my neighbor. He doesn't hate Muslims. He gets money from Saudis. Why would he hate Muslims?
He SAYS he hates Muslims because his cult hates Muslims. Trump himself hates anyone that stands in his way and holds him accountable. That's the only people he hates.
He doesn't love America. He loves Trump. He loves the people who kiss his ass. He turns on them the moment they stop.
Do you really think that vandalizing a fountain is going to do anything to get Israel to stop committing genocide? Come the fuck on
Yes.
Well it won’t. I’m going to go donate to Israel now.
Me too.
So you want to pay for a genocide? Weirdo.
If it’ll piss you off? Yup!
Maybe do more to stop it instead of inconveniencing people in a way that allows you to continue to live your life with no change?
I don’t think most are against activism. I think most of us are sick of people doing things to inconvenience others that has no actual effect on the issue that the activists claim to be representing. What is putting red dye in the water of Buckingham Fountain going to do?
And you’re likely going to respond with something along the lines of “this keeps the issue in the cultural consciousness” or something like that. Which seems so short-sighted. It keeps the conversation going “these people continue to inconvenience me, why should I care about their cause?” NOT “oh wow Buckingham Fountain is closed better contact my rep to encourage decreased war funds to Israel”.
These actions are only dividing the general population. They do absolutely nothing to help the actual issue. It’s complete slacktivism. Do something with real effects that can actually influence policy. Enough of this lazy shit.
What should people do then? You’d think over 10,000 dead children would be enough but even talking about that is an “inconvenience” to most people. So I’m sorry to be an inconvenience but innocent people, especially children, shouldn’t be slaughtered. I do from the bottom of my heart feel sad that you can’t go look at the pretty fountain today though
The point is to inconvenience everyone. If it's not inconveniencing someone, it's not going to get any attention or send a message or exemplify the fact that there are people whose lives are being more than just inconvenienced – they are being murdered en masse. Your rhetoric is the same one used against BLM protestors. And it's the same woe-is-me drivel that was being said back in the 60s during the civil rights movement.
Do not flatter yourselves by comparing yourselves to the civil rights movement. The civil rights movement was not focused on “inconveniencing everyone,” it was focused on inconveniencing COMPANIES and INSTITUTIONS that enforced segregation. Shit like this does more to inconvenience average people who have no power over the global systems that are at play than it does to inconvenience those global systems
Your Dad was right about you
Get a job
For some reason there's quite a few people that aren't very sympathetic to terrorists that demonize our way of life
I wonder why...
And who are the terrorists? The over 10,000 children killed? Or maybe the ones slaughtering the kids?
The 80% of Palestinians that support Hamas? You know, Hamas. The terrorist organization
It's so fucking hilarious that there's all these dumb kids supporting people that want them dead.
80% of Palestinian children support Hamas? And even if true( it’s not), or if their parents support them, they deserve to get killed? I wouldn’t support your children being killed even though you seemingly support the real terrorists here and are a huge piece of shit the world would be better without
I don't support a terrorist organization that uses children as human shields. I'm curious why you do
A child sleeping peacefully in their home is a human shield to you freaks
You are supporting people that want you dead lol
This could not be fucking funnier
Hamas doesn’t give a shit about whether we’re alive or dead at all. Its sole purpose is to bring down their oppressors, not spread shariah law or whatever you morons think. You have zero understanding of Hamas or the whole conflict in Palestine, and yet here you are
That couldn’t be funnier and sums it up with all of you idiots
Absolute losers
Pro-Hamas dipshits trying to "bring the war home."
Instead they'll just divert city funds from people who actually need them.
Get rid of parking after 7 pm on Columbus. That will stop a lot of nonsense with less people loitering around or BBQ on side of collumbus.
Get rid of Columbus entirely and have a nice quiet park like central park where you feel like you can get lost.
Chicago can’t protect it best attraction for city, suburbs, and visitors to go view daily. Chicago leadership is not heading in the right direction.
😂
All those pesky children and babies and their damn rocket launchers
PrEtTy SimPLe
It literally is that simple
It ain’t right that Hamas is doin what they are doing in one of the most densely populated places on earth. The young dead innocents who are related to some of these protesters deserve a voice.
Well the young alive innocents should distance themselves from terrorists
Go do something constructive then, dork
It’s just red dye, why do we react so stupidly to things? Just keep it open.
It seems they also spray painted something on the bricks as well. So depending on what and how much, i can see why its closed.
So what? It’s just spray paint.
Depending on the dye formulation, the can damage pumps/piping or permenantly stain the fountain. Chances of that are slim but they're likely closing it for cleaning just in case.
Ah, yes, a big pool of blood is great for the optics of the city.
Oh no the fountain is dyed red, I’m never coming back to Chicago. 🥺🙄
Everyone's acting like we don't literally dye the river green every March
Last I checked the river doesn't have such delicate pump mechanisms.
Find them, make strong examples of them. There are times I wish the US was more like Singapore and this is one of them
Buddy you don’t need to post the same comment 4 times
Reddit bug
Ya and protestors don’t need to chant the same god damn thing all summer either
Bad bot
Probably the Intifada kids at it again because Buckingham supported Zionism
When you encourage terrorist sympathizers this is what you get. Wait until the Convention for even more 🐂 💩.
I mean Hamas’ most effective tactic is rigging buildings to blow and detonating them when Israeli soldiers try to clear them but go off I guess
That what I did? “go off?” Booby-trapping buildings is disgusting. When will you admit dead and dismembered toddlers is too?
Bro, I can find you thousands of pictures of Japanese and German children burned to a crisp from alljed bombings. Do you think the allies should have agreed to a ceasefire?
Wow. Go Zionists! Bro
If your side wants to take advantage of every single rule designed to minimize civilian suffering, then you have only yourself to blame
When did I take sides?
Well I mean the continued bombing of buildings that are known to have children in them could be the reason protesters might want to keep protesting.
Regardless of your views on the issue, vandalism is not a protected aspect of free speech under the First Amendment. So sure, you can categorize this as an act of protest but it’s not one that we are entitled to under our laws.
Are you sure it’s more than a harmless dye? Or do you wish for something sinister?
I’m fairly confident this would fall under vandalism as defined by Chicago municipal code (see below). Whether it should be prosecuted is not up to me. I am just pointing out that vandalism is generally not a protected aspect of Free Speech.
8-4-060 Vandalism defined. It shall be unlawful for any person to commit vandalism. A person commits vandalism when such person, without proper authorization, engages in the willful or malicious destruction, injury, disfigurement or defacement of any public or private property. Vandalism includes, but is not limited to, any act of cutting, tearing, breaking, marking, drawing, painting or etching when such act is intended to damage property or has the effect of causing damage to property.
Was there permanent damage? Do you know this for a fact? Or was it more like St Patrick’s on the river? I don’t think we know. If you do please share.

Let me guess… GenZ fake activists mining for TikTok Likes?
Such an amazing generation!
What the hell, did some kid poop in it?
