Hi Everyone,
I am coming to this game after years of Project Zomboid and am finding the world and turn-based gameplay refreshing and interesting hardening back to my pencil and paper RPing days. However, the controls are horrendous and lack in both user experience and efficiency. Games typically resolve such issues with user interfaces and menus with point and click functionality. Are there any mods to improve these aspects of the game? It's tragic that such an interesting piece suffers from such unnecessary complexity just to physically play the game when I truly value the mechanical complexity of the game itself.
If you're fine with a little bit of work before you start a game...
in game, press '?' and it will show you a menu where you can rebind ALL keys. Yes, it's complicated and will eat a good amount of time setting it up properly, but you only have to do it once. You'll see that a lot of functions aren't something you'll be using regularly, so just rebind what you need, is my suggestion.
I personally don't know of any mods that 'fix' this. It's made this way because a) it used to be that way back in the days of old rogue, and the lead dev is a bit old-fashioned (no offense, Mr. Granade, I like it too!) and b) coding mouse-handling is more difficult than keyboard handling in general, the devs work on the game basically as their hobby, in their free time. Most people are fine with the controls, so the devs don't wanna spend time on improving the interface - yet.
