WatchCDDA.net is hosted by /u/r7st and allows for semi-multiplayer ASCII version of Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. It can be a bit confusing to get started so make sure you check out the Instructions page for more details and join that Discord to communicate while playing. Any issues need to be expressed on WatchCDDA's Discord, not the subreddit - any troubleshooting posts will be removed.

If you're new here, make sure to read through the above. Secondly, any simple questions should be confined to this weekly announcement post. If you've found a bug or a new strategy, or wondering what type of playthrough to try, you should make a separate post about those.

  • Flairs? What are those?

There are two types of flairs: user flairs (which are currently customizable) and post flairs. If you make a post, make sure you're flairing it appropriately for others. There are some exclusive flairs you cannot pick but should be on the lookout for, such as:

Changelog - these posts have very informative posts regarding changes.

Fixed - these posts generally have a solution to a bug or problem.

Lastly, if you flair a post [Help Wanted] and someone answered satisfactorily, make sure to re-flair it with [Solved] so others can find the solution instead of looking through tons of posts.

  • Oh no, my anti-virus says the launcher is a threat!

Antivirus products are known to detect the launcher as a threat and block its execution or delete the launcher. The reason for this is uncertain, but most likely due to a launcher component, PyInstaller, that is commonly flagged as a threat by antivirus software. A sufficient workaround is to add the launcher binary to your antivirus' whitelist, or to select the action to trust this binary when detected. More information can be found from the launcher's FAQ on Github.

If you are paranoid, you can always inspect the source code yourself and build the launcher from the source code. However, you are still likely to get false positives.

  • The UI is broken or weird, is this normal?

If you think the UI isn't set up correctly, make sure to press } to access the UI Settings panel. You will be given a choice of several different styles, with "Labels" being the recommended setting for new players and "Classic" for veteran players.

No Fungal Growth not working?[Mod]

I have the mod in my current save in version d6ec466, and I'm getting fungal shit more than a dozen overmap tiles away from the fungal bloom, is this mod not currently working?

[Xedra Evolved] Any guides[Mod]

I can't seem to find any relevant information for the mod. Are there any guides?
In case there aren't, here's a few quiestions:

  • How well does it play with magiclysm?
  • As a Fae with the para-whatever birth, I noticed there are a bunch of mutations in the mod files. How do you mutate them?
  • Any other beginner tips?
  • Anywhere where I can see the lore?

Are dimensional bags broken/unusable?[Help Wanted]

I have a dimensional bag but i cannot insert items in it and giving it priority does not work. Is there any way to put items in dimensional bags?

Favorite Experimental Builds post 0.G?[Discussion]

As it is with this type of game of rampant hyperfixation and then months of absence from it, it's time for me to get back into the swing of things and play this for weeks on end once more. That being said, as experimental is always controversial with it's recent changes and removals, I wanted to ask the community what your personal favorite experimental build post the 0.G stable is

Electricity? How?[Help Wanted]

I have found solar arrays and have 12 of them, now the question here is, how do i set it up? i have jumper cables, and heavy batteries (that apparently i can't use for some reason).

I already have the zone cleared where i want the batteries and the solar panels i have half on top of the LMOE and the other half want to just put them on normal ground level.

What im trying to power up is a LMOE shelter, i want to use the jumper cables to move the electricity to the underground zone.

But i never used electricity before in CDDA, i would like tips or a guide about it.

NPC starvation[Help Wanted]

So I've got an npc who's bodyweight is emaciated and they have malnourished debuff, I gave them pemmican to carry but they don't seem to eat it. I feed them manually sometimes. Could it be that they eat from my fridge isntead? Someone please give advice on npc feeding, I was not able to set up a faction camp yet.

Are policebots still a thing? And if not, why are eyebots still around?[Help Wanted]

So I'm playing .G stable and was lockpicking into an apartment and an alarm went off. I scrambled outta there like eggs of course, had no clue where the alarm actually plays from (the door I tried to lockpick? The building main entrance?) and had no clue what would hear the noise. A few hours later I see an eyebot outside my window- I thought that was kinda weird since last I heard policebots were no longer a thing as they were too futuristic. So it has me wondering, why are eyebots still around if they can't send policebots to you? Do they just take your picture for funsies? This one took my pic days ago and still nothing has happened as far as I can tell.

any advice for first time npc camp setup?[Help Wanted]

So I've got a couple of friendly npcs in my area and thought of recruiting them. I've got a nice field near my base I could build a village at. How far from my base should I make it to avoid lag? And what amount of materials should I prepare for constructions that would need to be done for them? What are the necessary things to set up? Will something try to attack the village and should I arm the npcs then?

Porting to Ipad[Help Wanted]

I've never coded, so I'm using Chat GPT to help me figure out the steps.

I got tired of waiting for some to port the latest stable to Ipad, and I'm trying to do it myself.

I have absolutely no idea what I am doing though, can anyone point me to the libraries I need to download please?

Giant batteries? [Discussion]

In addition to the batteries commonly used in the game to store and distribute energy, is there any type of giant battery like those used by electrical grids for large-scale storage?

I have no idea how hard it'd be to implement this but.. [Idea]

If possible, could someone add the (I) recipe comparison to the group at the bottom inside of the crafting menu? I'm aware it pops up inside of keybindings but it feels like a pretty important function to not already be on display.

How do you even practice social skills beyond 3? Trading does not seem to give much exp at all

The problem with electricity[Help Wanted]

Greetings to all. There is a problem, electricity in this game is not implemented very well, as you know, so the question will be related to this.

I'm telling you the situation. I found a portable generator (this is a transport (generator on wheels (1-2 photos))). I rolled this generator to my base, I start the engine.... and ... nothing, I don't have any menu to connect to the network. There is a regular menu when you press "e" (3 photos) (1. inspect the car; 2. remember the position of the transport; 3. start the engine), there is no simple menu for connecting to the network, what to do help, I found a solar panel made a layer of solar panels and this energy is not enough by the way, even to make tea, I have no idea what to do, the 3000-capacity battery charges for 12 hours, in the best weather for solar panels, and sits down when using an induction cooker on which I don't even have time to cook anything
IF ANYTHING, I GOT THE GENERATOR FROM A PORTABLE GENERATOR (Transport) AFTER I CHECKED EVERYTHING, THAT NOTHING WORKED WITH IT WITHOUT IT AND THE GENERATOR IS NOT INSTALLED SEPARATELY IN ANY WAY

How to check my genetic damage?[Discussion]

Ive been trying out mutations for the first time in the new system and want to know how to check my genetic damage

Ammo storage solutions[Discussion]

I'm looking for a way of compactly storing a lot of ammo in preferably separate containers for each caliber. Ammo cans have been working perfectly for this, but they only spawn in FEMA camps and I don't feel like raiding more. Cartridges for firearms usually weigh three times their volume, so container should also have it's max weight at least three times greater than max volume. Small cardboard and wooden boxes look fine, but they are a bit too small, my pile of 600 12.3ln rounds weighs 15 kilogramms and takes a bit less than 6 liters of space. For rifle rounds like theese I'd want something like 10-20 liters big. Stock pots looked promising, but they spill and I can't cram them into my car. Jerry cans do not have good weight capacity. Maybe I'd have to pack the ammo into small boxes and pach theese to a bigger box but nesting sonds kind of ass. I'd like to hear your ammo storage solutions.

Stable Branch NPC question[Help Wanted]

Can I get an NPC and then dedicate them just to disassembling things for me?

There is of course lots of crafting to be done but there's also a lot of stuff that needs taken apart how difficult would it be for me to get an NPC and dedicate them to that?
