Hey everyone,

Sorry for another “what to buy?” post… I have a Canon EOS RP and I am thinking about getting a new lens. I currently shoot with a ‘24-105mm F4 L IS USM’ (with EF mount) which is a fantastic lens for a lot of situations.

I really like to go out into nature and would love to extend my gear with something with more range. Mainly to shoot birds and other wildlife.

I am thinking about two lenses both with their pros and cons. The ‘Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM’ is a great option. I have actually used this lens before and really liked it. The only thing that makes me doubt is the minimum of 5.6f at 300mm. I am afraid I will not get the nice blur you usually see in wildlife photos or have a lot of struggle when the light is more dull.

Another option is the ‘Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II’ (or the Tamron variant. Obviously with a better aperture but 200mm is probably very difficult for wildlife. I can put an extender on but at that point I can better invest that money towards a better lens.

Any thoughts? I know I can’t get anything within my budget (around $1000?) so I have to find a good middle ground.
