The official camp sites I've looked at around my area need either age 18+ or 21+. I'm also not sure what the official age requirement is in Illinois. We're relatively experienced campers that can cook outdoors and whatnot, and I'm sure we're all capable of respecting the area as much as the next guy. Are there any places that don't check ID? If it helps, one of us turns 18 in July.
tent camping spots for relatively experienced 17 year olds in northern IL?
Thanks !! We'll look into it
Blackwell Forest Preserve in DuPage county. Family camping; electrical hookup at each site. Some sites are better for tents, some for RVs - Dupage County Forest Preserve has pics online showing each site and how much sun/shade it gets plus what kind of camping is best. Must buy wood onsite; close to grocery stores as needed.
Thank you !! We'll look into it
Don't be afraid to wild/free/scheme camp. Those are some of the best places. Or just set up in when in the middle of nowhere to the side of a rail-trail late in the evening. No one will bother you doing that. Leave no trace and be able to identify poison ivy.
Fair enough, thanks for the advice !
Also might want to check out HipCamp online - those sites tend to be just a bare spot on somebody's back acreage but sometimes you get something good (like next to a organic farm collective, so you can request fresh eggs every morning)
I apologize. I answered your question thinking this was a bicycle touring sub I also read.
If you are moving by car, camp legally. When I was a kid you could get away with a lot more with a car, but today not so much.
Camping by bicycle gives me a different aspect of freedom.
Duly noted 👍
Or maybe just camp legally?
Illini State park in Marseilles. You can book online. No one will bother you there. And they have ok bathroom facilities. It's on the river and there are several different campgrounds to choose from.
