I like to have a meal prepared before we leave out on Friday. Depending on how far we are going, it can be late when arriving at our campsite. Having something we can heat and eat or just eat cold makes things easier. Hungry people get real crabby real quick when setting up the tent!

Hello all! One recipe my friends and I love is toasted banana boats - you split a banana (leave it in the peel), then stuff if it chocolate chips, Graham cracker crumbs, mini marshmallows, or anything you want! Wrap it in foil and toss it on the campfire 😋😋😋

I'm sure this was covered but I like to pre portion my ingredients and package them in tupperware at home. Then I will whip out my trust foraging guide and see what's around and safe to eat to add later on. You'd be surprised what you can find. My favourite part is chopping/preparing once it's time for dinner near a nice campfire. For anyone curious, stems from Thistle are annoying to walk through but you can cut the stems open and inside you have what I call "camping gum" it's fibrous and full of sweet sugar. Similar to sugar cane, just smaller.

I love a good breakfast hash. Precut all my peppers, onions and breakfast sausage, canned potatoes or bagged frozen hash browns, eggs already cracked in a water bottle. Cooks in one pan. So yummy and filling.

We always try and make a damper. Self-riasing flour, milk, butter and a can of drink with sugar in it (like Solo or Lemonade) is the base ingredients and from there you can get creative.

I know it‘s simple, but cowboy coffee is good anytime.

I put water in a pot or pan, throw some grounds in, rolling boil it for a few minutes, and pour the whole lot in a cup Good coffee grains are nice to chew on afterwards.

Any good suggestions for recipes/ food to pack if you expect it to rain most of the camping trip? Tent camping access to small portable pocket stove.

I’m taking my son on his second Cub Scout camping trip soon. But god damn, they make the worst coffee in the morning. I wanna make one or two cups of coffee just for myself, preferably in my tent. What would your set up look like if you were doing this?

Question- any recommendations for a spice dispenser? I am looking for something like the Coghlan’s multi spice, but to fill myself. I’ve seen the GSI stacking choice, but it’s got too few compartments. I tried a bead container from the dollar store, but it didn’t seal well and the spices would shake out while closed.

Hospitals cafeterias are a great resource for mini versions of your favorite condiments!

I have several camping cookbooks (not that you need them) but I enjoy them. I meal plan for our trips just like I meal plan at home. I plan out 3 meals and snacks for the beginning of the trip and typically leave our last day for using up any leftovers although I try not to have them. Planning allows us to each just as well as we do at home. I pre chop or mix sauces at home. A lot gets packed into mason jars with leak proof lids. Then I have these silicone reusable freezer bags that I put everything for a meal in prior to adding it to the cooler. The leak proof stuff helps with cross contamination and preventing food borne illness. I have no desire to get sick while I’m camping. It seems like a lot of work in advance but it pays off when we are at our campsite.

I have a question. I have a kid that hates hotdogs and marshmallows. What are good ideas for other easy things to roast on a fire fork?

Advice: take advantage of the coals and hot ash in your campfires and cook some food! You can bury potatoes, sweet potatoes, hard squash, beets, whole onions, whole garlic, etc., directly in hot ash. Cool, peel, and add to any recipe calling for the ingredient.

Sweet potato, kale and sausage hash! I massage the kale in olive oil at home so it’s already ready to just toss in. Could also just wrap in foil and throw on coals.

This video introduced me (and let's be real more importantly introduced my fiance who actually loves to cook) to the idea that camping food doesn't have to mean traditional / simple grub like burgers or mac n cheese. Thai curry while camping is legit.

I just started camping and we are responsible for a meal one night on the trip. Last year I just did bbq ribs in tin foil on the fire.

This year I as thinking of pre-making a batch of Chili and placing it in the aluminum trays, freezing it and then throwing in on the fire.

Is this feasible? Looking for ideas.
