Eyeshield 21 - Anime of the WeekWeekly

Welcome to the weekly Anime of the Week Discussion Thread! Each week, we're here to discuss various older anime series. Today we are discussing...

Eyeshield 21

Shy, reserved, and small-statured, Deimon High School student Sena Kobayakawa is the perfect target for bullies. However, as a result of running errands throughout his life, Sena has become agile and developed a skill for avoiding crowds of people. After the cunning Youichi Hiruma—captain of the Deimon Devil Bats football team—witnesses Sena's rapid legs in motion, he coerces the timid boy into joining his squad.

As Hiruma wants to conceal Sena's identity from other clubs, Sena is forced to hide under the visored helmet of "Eyeshield 21," a mysterious running back wearing the number 21 jersey. The legendary Eyeshield 21 can supposedly run at the speed of light and has achieved remarkable feats in the United States during his time at the Notre Dame College.

Accustomed to avoiding his problems in the past, Sena's specialty might just help him become the new secret weapon of the Deimon Devil Bats. As he interacts with his teammates, Sena gradually gains more self-confidence and forges valuable bonds along the way.

I really enjoy Kaijuu 8 because the protagonist is an adult (well, sometimes). Can you recommend me some more animes with 30+y/o characters? What to Watch?

I'm really tired of protagonists with the maturity of 13 year olds.

Shows I already know:
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Pluto
Monster
Mushishi
Megalo Box
Samurai Champloo
Berserk (kinda)
One Punch Man (kinda)
Barakamon (kinda)

Ninja kamui fell off harder than any anime in years Discussion

The first 4 episodes are decent with good fast paced action and clean animation, but as soon as they introduced the terrible cgi mec suits this show went down hill so fast. The fights went from good to almost unwatchable and the story was not interesting enough to keep me watching. Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

Samurai Champloo 20th Anniversary Rewatch one week reminderRewatch

Hey guys. Holofan4life here.

In exactly 1 week from now, we will be beginning the Samurai Champloo 20th Anniversary Rewatch.

What is Samurai Champloo about?

Fuu Kasumi is a young and clumsy waitress who spends her days peacefully working in a small teahouse. That is, until she accidentally spills a drink all over one of her customers! With a group of samurai now incessantly harassing her, Fuu desperately calls upon another samurai in the shop, Mugen, who quickly defeats them with his wild fighting technique, utilizing movements reminiscent to that of breakdancing. Unfortunately, Mugen decides to pick a fight with the unwilling ronin Jin, who wields a more precise and traditional style of swordfighting, and the latter proves to be a formidable opponent. The only problem is, they end up destroying the entire shop as well as accidentally killing the local magistrate's son.

For their crime, the two samurai are captured and set to be executed. However, they are rescued by Fuu, who hires the duo as her bodyguards. Though she no longer has a place to return to, the former waitress wishes to find a certain samurai who smells of sunflowers and enlists the help of the now exonerated pair to do so. Despite initially disapproving of this idea, the two eventually agree to assist the girl in her quest; thus, the trio embark upon an adventure to find this mysterious warrior—that is, if Fuu can keep Mugen and Jin from killing each other.

Set in an alternate Edo Period of Japan, Samurai Champloo follows the journey of these three eccentric individuals in an epic quest full of action, comedy, and dynamic sword fighting, all set to the beat of a unique hip-hop infused soundtrack.

Why should I watch Samurai Champloo?

Samurai Champloo was made by famed director Shinichirō Watanabe. He is best known for creating Cowboy Bebop, one of if not the greatest anime of all time. This is his follow-up work of that show, though neither are related to each other.

Cowboy Bebop is to jazz what Samurai Champloo is to hip hop. It's this clash of styles that shouldn't work together but manages to bring about this vibe unlike anything else out there. If you want an adventure show with samurais that had a structure similar to a road movie, then you will probably enjoy this show.

What anime quote goes the hardest?Discussion

One of my favorite has to be

“It is humans who create God, as well as angels and people.”

-Abraham Gray {Angels of Death}

What is Your Favourite Anime Couple?Discussion

So this is a question I wanted to ask everyone, as it's a pretty interesting topic, and I feel like the reason I watch anime is pretty odd.

So I watch anime because I see ships online, decide I like the dynamic of the ship, and then watch the anime. Specifically, romantic relationships. It's kind of backward, but then I end up loving the anime as well.

Some animes I started because of ships are Re:Zero (Emilia and Subaru), Sword Art Online (Asuna and Kirito are best couple), and Kaguya-sama (Who else?). I especially enjoyed SAO Season 1 Asuna and Kirito's dynamic a lot.

Kaori and Kousei, etc. So many animes I've watched just because of amazing relationships like these. Komi and Tadano, Shoya and Shouko, Asuka and Shinji, the list goes on and on! What are your favourite couples in anime?

My favourite is Asuna and Kirito! Anyone else!
