AIW for asking my FIL and husband to not pee around our yard

Ok so this may be obvious but for some context I have no neighbors live on a secluded dirt road on a farm- It was my FIL childhood home - who then gave it to my husband and I as he has always worked on the farm and would be taking over the farm anyways- I have four kids from 1-10 both boys and girls- Now my FIL and husband have always just peed wherever whenever as long as no one was in front of them- but lately it’s gotten way worse where my FIL was in the middle of our driveway in front of his car so not faring the road but my daughter looked out our kitchen doors and said “mommy look pop pop is peeing” my daughter is 6. I sat my husband and FIL down and said this cannot continue and they need to go behind the house or the barn, period. I didn’t get a great response from FIL stating he wasn’t anywhere we could see him I told him we did see him and said “well just that I was peeing nothing bad”. My husband said I should’ve told him first so he could handle it because now his sister and mom telling him I made his dad feel unwanted at his farm. I mean am I wrong for calling it out?

It was not done in front of the kids- and I told them both that they’ve done it before not just calling out my FIL

I started reading this and thought I was going to get a completely different story, peeing in the middle of the driveway? Is he becoming senile? Yeah I've known lots of people who pee around their own property, but you go a little ways to the side nobody wants their front yard smelling like a piss. Sounds like they don't get that. You have a big property they should walk a little ways.

Noting wrong with peeing outside. He literally grew up there and has been doing that for 60+ years and now you want him to stop for no logical reason? Just cause I don't like it? It's good for the yard. It saves money and water and saves time. It's not hurting anyone. Much of the world it's even ok to pee like that in public and he is on a farm where animals pee all over the place.

If you have a problem with someone peeing out side away from the house on a farm then move to a city and problem solved.

City folk here! But unfortunately, not downvoting you. FIL can absolutely pee outdoors. And the mother is just as valid in saying she doesn’t want her young daughter seeing her grandfather’s penis. Hell, I wouldn’t want to see my grandfather or my FIL’s penis 😂. It’s okay to have boundaries around the location of outdoor urination.

My guess is granddad is getting defensive because he’s embarrassed about the situation, but either doesn’t know how to, or want to, express it. Regardless of why he reacted the way he did, he needs to have the maturity and dignity to respect a request to not pee in front of his granddaughter.

It was the driveway. Not the yard. In front of children who their parents don’t want seeing that.
I was born and raised in the country- in Mexico, texas, iowa, and Nebraska. All country living. I have always thought peeing outside when there is an option just as close was disgusting. It’s always been disgusting.

If you’re far, no one’s around, there’s an area you can pee that no one will sit on or walk in- fine, whatever. Walking 20 feet to behind the house or 24 feet to the bathroom inside? Go pee inside my god

The last point - seriously. (all of them hit the mark for real) My boys and husband used to piss outside until I said you know none of you gross fuckers washed your hands. I actually put hand soap out by the hose and they did use it because they knew Mama was not happy
