Leaving Tim lake on Monday around 8:30pm. Heard loud howl of some sort not like I’ve ever heard in the wild before, can some what hear it under the ambience, let me know what you think it could be. Spooked me right out
No the frogs I know I heard them all weekend long, the sound I’m talking about starts when the video starts and ends about half way. Didn’t pick up too well on camera but it was very loud and out of the ordinary.
I can hear it....maybe an owl?
Could be, but there was more than one. I was thinking possibly wolves but I don’t think they’d be that south?
oh yeah there are wolves all over the park and south of it. I live south of it about 30 km and I hear them from back door.
I’m in Barry’s Bay. Had visual ID on a wolf this winter on my lake. That’s 3 years in a row now.
Woah I thought I would have to go much further north to hear / see them. Good to know!
I’ve seen a cougar as well. Pretty rare, but they’re around.
Oh wow had no idea they came that south, freaked me right out…
Common loon
You think? It didn’t sound anything like it in person sounded ripply if that makes sense
It sounds like it may have been this specific loon call (low pitch at the start) when a few of them start a chorus around dusk and dawn.
No it was different, I’m very familiar with loon calls. Probably wolves
Those sounds are most definitely without a doubt, spring peepers (chorus frogs) unless there is something else I’m not hearing?
Yeah the frogs for sure but there’s another sound underneath the frogs, you can hear it in the first half of the clip
Ah I hear it now. Hard to say, my first guess would be loon, it sounds like the territorial call they do when flying. I hear it often where I live.
But it’s really hard to tell with all the chorus frogs.
Yeah they were over powering the noise for sure. Thinking it had to been wolves tho
I’d go with that then, since you were there and would have a better sense of it.
So, that’s pretty cool then!
Sounds to me like a pack of wolves gathering together for the evening
Must have been, sound probably got muffled over the trees
I hear a pack frequently near my place
Must be! Right after sunset too!
Was on the road to Opeongo last weekend and the peepers were going crazy. Loved it!
Right! They were so loud it was great!
Bigfoot
My first thought when I heard it 😂
Really had to turn up the volume, I believe It’s a sandhill crane
Could also be it, seen a pair of them on the river
Here’s a YouTube link to a sound clip of a Sandhill crane in flight. We get them around here a lot in the spring. I live (as the crow flies) 33km from access#2 Tim River. https://youtu.be/DYnHl9MqkE0?si=2gtG5iE-K3zo61n_
Yeah definitely could be
Wolves. Based on the limited sound in the video near the beginning, they do sound similar to the coyotes in my area southwest of Ottawa; however, the sound is much deeper, which makes me think wolves. Very cool!!
Yeah it was very deep and far but still loud, never had the opportunity to hear them before. Glad it was on the way out 😂
You can hear the sound when the video first starts then abruptly ends when I move, sound was coming from far away but very loud….
How was Tim Lake and area? Heading there tomorrow.
Great! Bugs weren’t too bad. Nights not too cold
Who cooks for you! Who cooks for you! Barred Owl(s).
I live in Ireland (originally from Canada). This is like ASMR to me, thank you for posting this. 🙏
Oh I got lots more footage, will be posting more soon!
id' shoot what ever animal is making that noise
Wish I could bring a gun to Algonquin, would sleep a lot easier
loon
That is the Spring Peeper Frog when there is a bunch of them they sound like that.
