I’ve been drinking for two years and only had 3 weeks off started with 4 pints of beer a night then a mad weekend then had to have more to get rid of a hangover and just carried on everyday now I’m waking up and just downing beers for fun every single day atleast 2 10 cases. Just wondering how much you were drinking and if it was for everyday
Welcome to the road to sobriety. For me, it was not how much I drank as much as the fact that I couldn't stop once I had the first sip or gulp. I became a daily drinker of wine, champagne, beer, and vodka. When I did stop, thanks to AA and IOP, someone told me it was okay to drink NA beer. I believed them and wound up drinking 12+ a day for close to two years. I started over--changed my sobriety date and re-worked the steps with a new sponsor. My alcoholic behavior finally stopped.
congratulations
How long was that for?
I was more of a binge drinker, so I could go week or sometimes with out. This last one was 7 days nonstop.
Here's the problem, in my experience, if drinking causes me problems such that I am questioning whether I might be an alcoholic or have some sort of alcohol depency issues--it is utterly irrelevant how much I was drinking. We are all different and we react to alcohol in idiopathic ways based on gender, body weight and individual constitutions. More important to me was the realization that while I drank abusively (destroying relationships, etc.) it was my own OBESESSION with drinking that for me, at least, came to define me as an alcoholic, not how much I drank in any give day, week, or month because even when I wasn't drinking I was thinking about drinking, lying about my drinking, dealing with the consequences and constantly rationalizing.
Yep
I would go weeks without drinking. Then once I picked it up. It was hard to put it down. Sometimes would last 4 or 5 days. Non stop drinking all day. If I could count it would any where from 15 to 20 beers and some shots. Not really eating. And I weight about 150lbs
Fifth or a litre of whatever gasoline i could get my hands on. Quickly went down hill. After a year of that shit damn near everyday. My liquor budget for the month was probably 600-800 dollars
That is insane. What made you go to the er like what was you feeling at that time that made you think I need to go
Several days of throwing up blood and shitting blood. Sleepless nights trying to cry myself to sleep but couldn’t because the pain was so intense. I was also 48 hours in to my body rejecting all food and all liquids other than alcohol. I felt like I was dying and about to have a heart attack. It was the right choice. If I wasn’t rushed to the ICU upon arrival I was told I minutes away from a full blown heart attack. I was only 28 at the time for reference.
Jesus surely not a litre of vodka in a day I bet your nervous system was mental in the middle of the night or the morning
I did 750ml of Vodka a night on weekdays, 1.14L on Friday and Saturday for 5 years. It was fucking he’ll trying to stave off the shakes.
5 years sober on July 3rd. It is possible…..
Unfortunately yes. The pain would get so bad I literally could not sleep at night. It started off with morning beers and went strictly to hard liquor after a few months. I considered 10 shots at work pretty bad and it turned into 20 shots and beers. I had 3 ER visits in 2023 and two stints in detox. I’m doing much better now. My first time in the hospital was .522 BAC and I was rushed to the ICU. I’m doing much better now. You know your FUCKED when you start going to everclear because vodka wasn’t hitting like it used to. I cannot drink hard liquor anymore. My stomach still hasn’t recovered. I have chronic gastritis now my stomach will bleed if I drink hard liquor. I was told I would die but before I die I will have to live with a colostomy bag before it kills me if I continued on the path I was on.
I am a binge drinker. Last one was 10 months. Every day drinking. 1 to 2 bottles of wine or 5 to 6 beers or ciders a day maintenance drinking but could drink way more. If I don't drink, I don't drink. If I drink I drink until I can't. I have never in my life been able to drink 1 or 2. Never.
I don't remember the daily amount. But the weekly amount was approximately 170 beers and a gallon of liquor. And I worked 50 hours/week. Never drank at work. Only before and after
I've had 12-16 beers, a few shots, maybe a couple mixed drinks.
Last night, 7 or 8 beers.
I don't drink during the day. Each night is a different amount. Sometimes I go weeks without any alcohol.
I drank about 12 50 ml bottles by noon every day, starting at around 5 am when i got up, did that for 3 years
What of? And was it just till noon then you stopped?
No at noon i would take a nap in my truck then start again with another dozen nips or so, then to hide it all would have a few beers when i got home. I was blacked out a lot and most people didnt realize it
At my peak, I was consuming a 1.75 L of bourbon in roughly a week. Some weeks more than others. It was getting worse until I decided to do something about it.
At the end, I was drinking about like you. That shit was not sustainable. Lost some feeling in my feet and generally felt like droopy ass all. the. time. I would drink all day and not even feel drunk.
It only took about 14 days in rehab (I did all 28) to start feeling completely normal (aside from the feet), and after completing all 12 steps, I feel like a million bucks!
Crazy isn’t it. How long was you doing it for everyday?
Idunno. About 10 years at that rate. But, like an alcoholic, it kept getting worse. When you can't get drunk, what do you do? Drink more, obviously. I was just really trying to stay away from liquor because anyone can see how that would end.
I could kinda feel myself dying. With a 7 year old running around expecting things of me, I had to stop that bullshit.
Good on you. So you drank every single day for ten years? Wow
I drank "like that" for 10 years. Drank every day since I was about 18.... 26 years ago.
I used to drink an Obseen amount of booze. I drank everything.
Everyday I drank alot. In a single day I drank a lot of alcohol.
Four loko, Miller Lite, IPA, Liquor...
I used to fill up large trash bags with bottles, cans liquor bottles. All the way to the top in a 5 day period.
Clean date is May 4th 2023
My average “chill” day was 4-7 drinks. When I was getting after it and turning up the heat it was 15-20 drinks a day.
Rounded to about 0.75 liters of 80 proof vodka or bourbon a day with a few other drinks occasionally mixed in.
I’d binge, when I did it would usually start with 4 or 5 pints, then maybe 8+ double something and mixer until I blacked out and lost count.
It got to 1 litre vodka a day. Wasn’t sustainable for more than two weeks at a go. After two weeks I usually ended up in the hospital.
In hospital for what??
I drank 12 to 20 beers everyday after work for years. It’s been 6 days since my last drink.
How long did it take to drink 20 after work?
I’d get home from work at around 5pm, start drinking, then go to bed sometime between 11pm and 1am. Get up for work at 6:15am.
I’d usually buy a 24 box every 2 days, sometimes more. Like if I drank 18 the first night, so I only had 6 left for the second night, I may well get more beer on the way home as 6 wouldn’t be enough.
It's been almost 19 years since I had a drink, but I recall my sort of average when going out was around 15 drinks at the bar. If I was just staying in and taking it easy 1 bottle of wine.
I was drinking 3 or 4 750ml handles of bourbon every week while I was immobilized by CRPS. I got on track with the help of my parents and some good doctors and went sober for 3 months. My body changed and now I physically can’t drink very much anymore. I no longer have the thirst for alcohol as much either. I used to wake up and want alcohol before water.
Between 1-3L of vodka a day at the worst parts, shit got rough..
My last days were a staple of 1.5L of vodka a day + whatever I could get my hands on. I’ve been clean and sober for 6 years now.
i started off with one normal-sized bottle of wine a day. then it went to a big-sized one. then it went to me having to get the boxes, and i’d clear them in two days. it just kept getting worse and worse, and at the time of me getting sober, i drank about a liter of vodka a day.
i’m a girl that’s of a smaller frame and i’m not even 25. that’s an absurd amount of alcohol. my organs all hurt all the time, i was always nauseated and tired. my piss smelled like alcohol. it was coming out of my pores.
2.5l of red wine everyday about a year after covid am 2 and 2 days sober today.
Weeks
I drank for 13 years. Blacking out damn near every night. Woke up one day with yellow eyes. I knew then and there this was serious. I haven’t had a drink since then. Almost 2 years. You have to make a choice in life. Get busy living or get busy dieing.
In outpatient rehab we had to calculate what we drank in a day. I was a 36 y/o F drinking since I was 18. I started coffee and while waiting for it, I had a shot of warm vodka. Had another shot before I got onto the shower and another one before I left for work. I had a bottle under the front seat of the car and sometimes had a couple while running errands on my lunch hour. I averaged 14 drinks a day while alone at home or in my car. With company visiting or at a gathering I couldn't keep track.
Thanks for sharing. Drinking that much is not ok and you can definitely recover from your situation. For myself, I am 44 years old. My alcoholism progressed from 5-10 drinks a couple times a week partying/friends (which was not healthy and I wish I knew that back then!) for the first 10 years slowly getting worse. At it's worse it was a minimum of a six pack (which I needed to stave off the shakes) daily, plus a bottle of wine and/or mickey of vodka 2-3 times per week.
Last few months for me were 2x12 packs of white claw pretty everyday. Sometimes mix in something else but more than 24 drinks and the next day would be very hard to start without being violently ill, still kept trying. It was only after about 4 I even thought I really felt anything.
if I have the freetime I drink a fifth of liquor at least
My last day of drinking was 12 pints of beer and a 70cl of vodka, this is my 2nd day sober today.
