Chris Kessell (@THEChrisKessell) on X: “I've been told that MLS is selling potential @MLSNEXTPRO investors on a future MLS D2 league.”

MLS has 29 clubs and growing. Serie A will never have more than 20 and will never have more than 3 that can consistently win championships

How is there no meritocracy involved?
The fact that Indy is being considered shows there isn’t a cap and the American system is set up in a way that USL (or another upstart league) can get D1 status by meeting reasonable standards. Unlimited soccer is better soccer
Playing against Inter Miami shouldn’t be something to strive for. Winning national championships should be

Financial stability is a huge part of a clubs merit

Why should you be the one determining who should and shouldn’t be a club?
What bad team is kept alive by anyone else?

Your chart is behind a paywall and only proves how successful every MLS club is. Why would you want to have a lesser number of successful clubs in this country?

The MLS and Don Garber is obviously the ultimate judge of who should and shouldn't be a club. Not a system made to be as fair and open as possible. Performance on the field, where two teams play on the same field, with the same ball, the same refs, the same weather, 11 vs 11. But no, Don Garber knows best.
Wrong
This is the writing of a propagandist or a clown. The US is nearly 6 times bigger population wise than Italy. The clubs and leagues decide how many teams are in the top division. Typically it's found in most European nations after 18 the quality dilutes. And fans and clubs call to decrease from 20. It isn't "stuck forever". It's at 20 because they want it that way. England has 24 teams in the Championship thru League 2. That's the way they want it. Hungary has only 12 teams in their first division for example. They are a small nation and that's how they decided to run it.
Why do you want to limit the number of D1 clubs and leagues in America then?
Why do you want 5-10 more D1 teams as opposed to 5-10,000 more teams at all levels.
I want both, the American system allows for both. It’s not an either or situation.
There has to be pro/rel for it to happen. There needs to be incentive to spend and invest money at all levels. Otherwise it won't happen. Soccer will always be mediocre here despite the money and interest if MLS gets its way. If we have an open system then they can decide how many teams are correct for the top tier. Right now it's a way to raise funds for the other investors who paid in already. Soccer needs to come first not a small group of investors

Pro/Rel literally takes away incentive to invest

Major League Soccer has seen the most rapid growth in quality over 30 years of any domestic soccer league in the world.
If we have an open system then they can decide how many teams are correct for the top tier.
Pro/Rel doesn’t allow for a free market to decide how many teams are in the topflight. It causes an arbitrary number to be set and refusal to budge from that number. The EPL should have at least double the clubs they currently have as most of the Championship can compete with the low end of the table.
Soccer needs to come first not a small group of investors
Soccer needs to come before arbitrary antiquated league systems
Ok mate this is pure unadulterated propaganda. This is like the scene in Billy Madison. Go attempt (you don't need to succeed just try for the next 5 years) to play professional soccer and then come back to me and let me know how your "takes" hold up in the real world. I won't entertain this ignorance further. What you wrote is properly disturbed
Why would I want to play professional soccer? Your ability to play the game has zero to do with league structure, national governance, or the business behind a club. I work in sports, my takes hold up tremendously well.
No mate it doesn't. You watch the sport from the couch. You suffer from the Dunning Kruger effect.
