Either the writers were lazy or Harper and Lopez suddenly didn't know how to use birth control đ All their pregnancies are oopsies.
SpeculationHarper was told she couldn't get pregnant, so maybe she threw protection out the window
Oh that's right!
I think they handled it pretty well considering they were pregnant irl
I think it's great they incorporated the pregnancies, it just would have been nice if they came up with creative reasons of why they got pregnant.
Are you 12? Most pregnancies are accidents.
Most pregnancies are accidents? I would like to see those statisticsđđ
Lol a lot of people kinda stop using protection and think it will take time and sometimes its really fast. Oopsy Its not unplan as in « dont want kids » but its unplan as in « we are nat actively trying to be pregnant calendar out »
That was very common in the past.
Between 50/60 %
What's insane is the amount of people who think the pull out method works.
It "works" when combined with other methods, but it is definitely not very effective lol.
Itâs 40% for young adults and 7% for middle aged women
I don't believe that at all.
Yeah you are right... its 57%.
And don't believe me? Here is a paper breaking down the statistics, sorry for long link
Both of mine were accidents.
I donât normally jump on the WTF wagon here on The Rookie sub, but WTF? What âcreative reasonsâ would you have preferred? Iâve been pregnant five times and four of them were âoopsiesâ.
Were you on birth control?
One or two of them, I was. It was a long time ago. My children are all in their twenties now. Iâve known numerous women over the years whoâve gotten pregnant while on birth control. Usually the pill. All it takes to get pregnant when youâre on birth control is the right antibiotic.
Well yeah, itâs well known that antibiotics interfere with birth control.
My best friend has been pregnant 3 times, all on birth control used properly (shots or implants).
How can you have four oopsies?
If you donât know Iâm not telling you.
I have an idea.
đđ
no birth control is %100, not even surgical methods
Pretty sure my uncles colonoscopy means heâs 100% not going to get pregnant.
Not from the colonoscopy anyway.
Oh my surgical is 100% or my doctor will have a lot of explaining to do. I have had my tubes completely removed as well as my ovary due to a cyst that grew to the size of my newborn head. It literally grew with him during my pregnancy and dis not shrink whatsoever. Got it removed 2 months after he was born.
There are surgical methods that are 100%. Removal of fallopian tubes doesnât have a failure rate.
Nope, that has about a 0.5% fail rate
I stand corrected.
But depends on technique and age of the patient. It also goes down the longer one has it.
Still better than the 2-3% with other methods.
No, there are cases where women that have gotten pregnant after having both fallopian tubes removed.
Fine hysterectomy.
Oh you're not gonna believe this, but not only has there been at least 71 confirmed cases of women getting pregnant after a hysterectomy but the numbers have been increasing in recent years.
Now, granted most of these were ectopic pregnancies but there was a woman in 1980 whose baby survived and was born at 36 weeks.
It has a less than 1% failure rate. Around 1 in 200 will still get pregnant.
The actresses were pregnant
I meant, their character pregnancies couldn't be planned? Or it's more amusing/fun that they were unplanned?
The second of Angela's pregnancies should have been planned. Westley was already wanting a second child.
Yeah let's refuse the actors to get kids while they have their roles.... Jesus..
You didn't do well with reading comprehension in school, did you?
I think that it's refreshing that they incorporated the actresses pregnancies into their storylines, I just meant, the birth control malfunction has been overused. I'm aware birth control isn't 100%, I just meant at this rate, Angela is just going to keep getting pregnant even with the pill. But I just remembered that she scheduled a vasectomy for Wesley. My only point was, the writers could have been more creative of why they got pregnant.
why is everyone misunderstanding you lmao. yes, storywise, why were they both oopsies? itâs an interesting writing choice
Hahaha yes! I was only asking about the creative choices.
What do you mean by âbe more creative about the pregnanciesâ? How exactly is a creative way to get pregnant?
âŠWAIT LET ME REPHRASE!!!
I donât understand what you mean. Like, they should have done a major plot point about someone trying to get pregnant? We donât know the background of how the actresses themselves got pregnant, they might not have had time to write and then shoot scenes about tying to get pregnant before the actresses started to show.
These stories and plot lines are planned a year in advance, and filmed several months earlier. They canât just have an actress mosey up and say âoh BTWs Iâm planning to get pregnant in 12 months time so letâs start writing thatâ because if something goes wrong and it doesnât happen, theyâre now stuck with that plot line, and Iâm sure an actress who failed a pregnancy for whatever reason would not then like to have to act being pregnant.
To be fair, neither of my pregnancies were planned. Shit happens.
"First of all, he's a lawyer, not a wizard" đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
A lot of women struggle with BC, I know my sisterâs canât take it cause must makes things very difficult; like bleeding every day for 9+ months
Personally, I would rather have the oopsy pregnancy than the long, drawn out storyline of trying to get pregnant. Infertility and struggles to conceive are not plot points. Theyâre real issues that couples go through and are, often, heartbreaking. Iâm glad the show didnât use the infertility trope with Angela or Nyla. I bet the pregnancies were oopsies because the writers hadnât planned on either character becoming pregnant so soon.
Hahaha this post and some comments made me remember this meme, itâs 18+ fyi
Harper thaught she couldn't get pregnant.
TV pregnancy is mostly a plot device anyway
Well I'm sure the writers didn't plan for them to have babies but because the actresses were pregnant in real life they probably had to scramble and just write something
Well, I would have seen Angela and Westley having children not matter what.
Lopez and Wesley planned their second baby.
Wesley brought up the second baby topic but Lopez said to wait another 2 years, then she got pregnant. There's a scene where she told Harper that she was taking the pill but Wesley âdid this to her.â
She forgot the pill, I am sure.
I still think its funny they havent named the second haby yet or they havent said it
Funny no, it is disapointing.
The actual actresses are pregnant in real life. The writers are making it easier for them by writing in the pregnancy.
Totally, then they donât have to worry about hiding them behind desks, baggy clothes, cop cars, and just always halfway hidden behind some prop. They can continue to be active in the overall storyline.Â
Their pregnancies have been because they were pregnant in real life
Just a true reflection of society.
Wish they could include a little Chicago pd
100%. I also donât get why every real pregnancy has to be written into the show in some way.
I always figured it was a way for the writers to stay apolitical on a hot button issue of abortion/birth control
I thought Angela's first pregnancy was planned, and the second pregnancy was an oppsie. Am I wrong? Or am I forgetting something?
Both were oopsies. Wesley brought up the idea of a second kid and Angela said she wanted to wait two years, but then ended up pregnant anyways.
Yes. Why can't a female character just BE? The writers always throw in a surprise pregnancy or infertility issues. Some women don't want kids and use BC.
On the subject. This is where the marriages and relationships are a little cheese. I like the show. But everyone getting pregnant
Birth control is generally only 99% effective. Dunno if you've ever played a game with a 1% drop chance, but it's not that uncommon, especially if you do it a lot.
I agree, I always thought it was kind of trashy that Lopez, whoâs supposed to be smart, had an âaccidentalâ pregnancy and managed to trap the rich guy.
I mean...birth control does fail sometimes.
Itâs because the actors got pregnant in real life so they put it into the show
My mom got pregnant at least twice that I know of while on birth control. Assuming the pill was the only form of birth control they were using, it really isnât as effective as people think it is
I have seen this happening in real life too. A colleague of mine got his son and told everyone that he only wanted one child. His daughter was born 10 months later. A Friend tried for years, gave up and she got pregnant. Another Friend said that he wants kids but not for another 2 years. Pregnant. It just happens.
It is called not using protection.
