The 12k FSD price tag is way too high to ever justify buying it outright. You would have to drive your car for 5 years while paying the subscription before you reached 12k. If you're like me and trade your car in every few years it's better to just pay the $200 a month. I will end up spending nearly 5k less than if I bought FSD outright by the time I trade my current car in.

You can't say that. $37k plus you have to add delivery fees, taxes etc etc. It will come to at least $45 at minimum. Having said that I'd say he can go down to $33k. Because used Teslas on Tesla's website with a warranty and FSD are still less than $36k.

Oh ok. So all the ones I was looking at before the end of the last quarter. If it said $38,900 after the tax rebate, OTD was still $44,000k for me. So that's where I came up with those numbers. And I know this because I was watching a certain config of model Y's like a hawk. Both in FL and CA. And give or take it was $44k-46k OTD.
Ah yeah, perhaps a specific config would be more, and not every area gets the same discounts. Tesla was also sending me (and others) personalized discounts ($1K extra off inventory prices) for having a Cyber Truck reservation.

Most folks don’t value FSD though so if you don’t value that, then the other posters are right, a new 7 seater will run you only $10k more depending on the state you live in for state tax.

They do the $7500 tax credit at POS now but if that's how it works I'm not sure we'd qualify (we always seem to always get tax back at tax time). Not too worried about the extra seats, just thought a good little extra - but apparently they're for midgets
The POS credit, just as long as you are not over the income limits, no matter how much taxes you owe or will be refunded back, outside of this vehicle purchase, if you use the POS credit to purchase the car then you will be able to keep that full $7500 amount. That is the huge advantage of the POS credit other than the instant discount on the new car price out the door, that as long as you are not over the income limits will always walk away with the full POS $7500 amount, which you don't need to pay back.
Income limit is $300k if filing jointly fyi. For those that are above, buying used could be attractive.

This is a bad deal. I picked up MYLR7 seater with tow in blue (demo with 300 miles) for $50k in March 2024. That includes order fee, delivery, etc. With federal tax and state rebates, it came to $39k. You have to pay sales tax on new and used vehicles.
The blue paint is $1k. So you are really saving $2k. You say there's $12k in FSD but I don't think it's worth it. The sales guy at Tesla said he has FSD but never uses it. He basically said "If you really want something, get the enhanced auto pilot. That's all you need". Or just pay for FSD when you go on a long trip. I have 3 month trial and even with v12, I rarely use it. Now that parking is working, I might consider going with enhanced auto pilot but I'm not even sure as I can park faster.
Depends on state. In Maine you only pay the sales tax once. You have to pay excise tax on used and new.
FSD is a very personal thing. If OP wanted it and it will use, then great. I use mine all the time.

FSD is really great if you drive a lot on highways. We drove 150+ miles home with FSD the day I picked up the car, it's really amazing and saves lots of effort.
I tested and still won't trust it on busy city roads yet.
So if you'll use FSD a lot then it's a good deal, and the wrap also worth it. Third row and tow wouldn't worth much in used sale, though.

Technically they are supposed to have ownership of the old vehicle at the time the new one is purchased. As long as you have it in writing that FSD conveys you might have leverage with Tesla in case it were to get removed.

For $35K I think it's a decent deal, considering all the things that are included. It's not the best, considering this is almost a off warranty car and has some sort of 10K miles per year with it. But I guess that this seller at least took (cosmetically) care of the car. Enjoy!

If you qualify for tax credit a brand new MYLR5 w/ white interior and tow would cost u just around $45k out the door (including /sales tax, dmv fees, destination etc). Given the car has 32k miles, I would discount that by 1/3, so that means the bottom line becomes $30k. If your offer price is 36k, your out the door price for the car would becomes around $40k. How much the FSD, third row seat, PPF, tint worth for you? I don’t include the tire as u get new tire if you buy new anyway. Do all those things worth $10k? Not for me, personally i think those items only worth at most $5k, why coz i rate the third row as worthless, PPF $2k, Tint $0.5k, FSD $2.5k. You have to factor in the cost of these items to you is also depreciated over the lifetime of the car

Bad deal as many others have told you already. On a side note, don't count the "after market" options into the cost of a used car. If you really want to give them a value, I say 10% of what they say they paid and then negotiate from there because 1) it cost the seller money to put those on but it ultimately will not add value to the car and 2) they almost always pad the price they paid to make up for the money spent. In other words, the 3/4 PPF wrap, I'd value $200, and tint, I'd value $25. The tires are a little different because it's required, but still, I would not give the full $1400 in value to the tires. The tow option... it's a factory thing so bake it into the price of the car.

I could’ve sold my 2021 MYLR without FSD or PPF to Carmax for 30k. I sold it private for 32k and it had 27k miles.
Also prices vary depending on market, teslas can cost more or less depending on where you’re at and how many are available in your area.
If you’re willing to travel far you can usually find better deals but honestly not that much better.
The only reason not to buy this car is that you don’t qualify for the federal EV rebate which in my opinion kind of kills the deal.
I bought a brand new RWD Tesla Model Y from Tesla direct last month because it was an inventory vehicle so they discounted it 3k then they took off the $7500 ev rebate and I ended up getting like 11k off the cost of the car and bought a brand new car for 38k after all the fees and interest and everything.

Not a good deal. I paid 40,050 for a new 2023 myrwd in Feb 2024 with upgraded rims and got free charging for 4000 miles. That’s 40,050 then 7,500 off that. Look at the inventory cars on the Tesla site.
I purchased the 21MYLR for $29k, which has 16k miles on it. It has a performance boost and upgraded wheels. Go for it of you really need a FSD but its not a great deal

If it has FSD fully paid for $12k (not month to month subscription) then it’s a good deal….but honestly being an owner of a brand new 2023 MYP back in December; honestly 36k is still rather high. My MYP Midnight Silver with white interior was only 54k
FSD shouldn't sway you to buy this. It's dangerous and still not ready for primetime. Basic autopilot is great on the highway. It is maybe worth paying $200 for a month if you're planning a cross country road trip.

Tesla was compute restrained and now they have Dojo (neural network specific) super computer and a Nvidia (emulation mode) super computer up and running at full capacity. FSD V12 is very close needing very few interventions and improving rapidly.
Standard FSD from 2020 was always able to drive from on-ramp to off-ramp flawlessly which is the main use for FSD. I actually have and use FSD so what do I know. 😄

Terrible deal. A new one in Tesla inventory near me is $45,000 (was $44k before end of quarter). Minus $7,500 for fed tax credit, gives you $47,500 end price (you might also get a state break if you live in certain states) for a new MYLR with fresh warranty and zero miles. I’d reconsider. If you take out a loan, your APR will be better on a new vehicle loan.

I own a 2021 long range model Y with a lot more miles and it's still just as quiet as the day I bought it. We are not talking about a gas guzzler with an engine and transmission that lose performance and get noisy over time. LOL The motors and reduction gears in the 2021 are robust and over engineered. Newer models have been engineered with weaker parts because the extra strength is unnecessary. EVs have a much longer lifespan then an ICE car. Thinking by analogy is not the best path.
I understand, I’m sure mine will be very quiet also cause I’m as picky as gets. I was a Chrysler tech for many years back in my automotive technology days Nashville. My instructor used to say a vehicle was like a lollipop. You could either lick it, and enjoy it or take a big bite out of it and it’s gone. The issue is most people takes big bite out of them, and it’s pretty rare to find a car that’s been taken care of. It’s definitely a role of the dice or even worse. I can assure you EV or ice if you run the shit out of them it’s going to make noises eventually. You take an EV that’s been babied and taken care of versus someone who run it in ludicrous mode every day you’re gonna tell a difference.
Not as much as an ICE car simply because EVs don't have an engine and transmission with thousands of points of wear and failure. Real world data shows Tesla battery packs last at least 300,000 miles and usually over 500,000 miles and then continue to work with reduced range. Of course you'll know if the car has been cared for when you see it in person. Don't forget to check the oil. LOL I do all my own work from brakes to engine rebuilds and always loved gas and go Toyota's, my old Subaru was a beast. However there is always something you need to fix or maintain. With my Tesla there is virtually no maintenance, no oil changes, no engine repairs or breakdowns nothing nada zilch. It's the nature of EV technology. Good luck with your decision but I suspect you've already made it.

I mean the slightest noise that I hear, even if it’s the backseat rattling a little bit because it’s not fully latched small shit like that. I have the wife usually crawling around trying to isolate it and that’s a brand new vehicle. out of 100 people. I may be one of the few that would ever hear it. I know she doesn’t until I pointed out to her. I think Tesla could’ve done a little better putting felt in between the plastic molding connect points inside so I’ve went around and completed their job. Also note, I am not OP. I bought mine brand new with 6 miles on it. September 2023.
EVs are by their nature very quiet so you'll hear any little noise that in an ICE car would be drowned out by engine and transmission noise. I heard a scraping noise when turning in one direction, it was a small branch stuck in the front suspension. Another time I heard a noise that was bugging me thinking it was something on the car. It was barely audible but in a super quiet model Y you could hear it. Eventually I tracked it down, it was the pedal on my folding bicycle I had in the back. The peddle on the top side has slight play in it. 🤣
When I level 2 charge for free next to my work I use the bicycle cutting the travel time down to 2 minutes. I'm a bicycle nut and used to ride bicycles to work thinking about all the gasoline I was saving. With a Tesla I'm not saving anything and they're so fun to drive that I drive a lot more now. Tesla is bad for my health. 😄
Word! Well, with level two charging next to work being free, that’s fantastic. I had some property in OceanLakes in the residential section, I lived there for five years., it sold and about that time I bought the model Y performance, my biggest criteria for finding a home was that it had to have a garage. There’s no off-peak hours, It’s a flat $.14 per kilowatt and I do miss the free level 2 charger that was OceanLakes. Now the only way I get free juice is getting lucky at a grocery or shopping center or plugging in to someone’s outlet while visiting, which obviously is super slow when running 120. One of my contracts is appliance installs they’re all new homes. They’re kind of like duplexes and maybe one out of 10 will have the Nema 14-50 range plug close enough to the garage that I can plug in there, I concur with Tesla and affect on the psyche
Right after I ran 240v to my garage I discovered the free level 2 charging next to my work. 😄 On 120v 15 amp I was only getting 5 mph which was enough when my wife worked nextdoor. But now my wife has a new job so 120v is barely enough to get us to the weekend when we charge off peak. I work nights so we only get 5 hours of off peak during the week. Free charging once or twice a week does the trick.
I haven't installed a permanent charger in the garage yet because I have an old 60 amp house feed. Eventually I'll spend the money to upgrade to 100+ amp service. If I knew about the free charging earlier I might not have dug the trench and ran the conduit. 😁

Yeah I'm a cheapskate and love doing everything myself. Also when you do it yourself you know it's been done right. I've seen a lot of shaddy work done by supposedly professional contractors. I do all my own car work from brakes to engine rebuilds but it gets old. There's always something needing to be fixed. Getting a Tesla makes a gas and go Toyota look like junk. I just have my motorcycles to work on now. The only thing I've needed to do to my Tesla so far is add windshield washer fluid. It's been 3 yrs so I'll probably need to replace the windshield wipers. 😄
I used to work building maintenance, electronics is a hobby, I have an extra class amateur radio license, I'm a certified locksmith and I also have an IT Network Specialist degree. Yet I work in revenue recovery at a company with insane benefits. Some of my kids have college degrees and good paying jobs but none work in the field of their college degree. LOL Now with the Internet we have the world's knowledge at our fingertips making it easy to do things yourself.

I was honestly only wanting to spend $30k max (or preferably less) on a 2nd hand, and when pricing new ones (Long Range) with one or two options I'd like, the cost was well into the 40's. This just seemed to have a lot of nice little extras for a little bit more than I wanted to budget.
If you want the extras especially FSD then you know you have a good deal. Ignore the people only looking at the price of the car as if those extras have no value. I paid $7k for FSD and think it's worth every penny I paid just for its ability to drive and navigate from on-ramp to off-ramp. I started out with standard FSD that couldn't even make a turn on city streets. I enjoyed watching FSD beta improve its abilities and now fully AI FSD supervised is blowing my mind. Yeah it's got a few quirks but it's now improving at an accelerated rate. My last FSD update was only 2 weeks after the previous one because Tesla's Dojo and another super computer are now up and running at full capacity.

My brand new 2024 MYLR with 15 miles on it was $38,800, so I’d say maybe not.

2024 MYLR is 38k rn. You do not need to pay 12k for full self driving, you can use it as a subscription which is what I do. I trade my car in every few years. paying 12k for built in FSD capability just seems crazy to me when if I keep a car for 4 years and pay the $200/mo subscription fee I end up spending nearly 3k less for FSD over a 4 year period, it's nearly 5k less if I trade in a year earlier.
I just bought a brand new 2024 Model Y Dual Motor Long Range, Ultra Red paint, acceleration boost was a free gift, for $37k after federal tax for my wife from the inventory (I'm still on Model 3 Performance). But, dude, it is brand new, with a warranty for 37k and yeah, no one farted in this vehicle prior.
The PPF, Ceramic tint, FSD, 3rd row. brings almost no resale value when you trade in. You are doing him a favor and its a huge favor.

Bought a MYLR otd for 43k after tax rebate (High Sales Tax state). FSD is fun the first few times, but it’s not worth it IMO. I live in a decently sized city (115k) and it with FSD v12 it still iffy. You can also pay for FSD monthly ($200) not sure if you knew. Third Row Seat barely has any leg room. Inventory models are at a pretty good price right now as well. If it says 7500 or more you qualify for all of it.

If you can find the one you want used from tesla a lot of them have FSD and acceleration boost etc .. i like the one additional year warranty .. if u do not qualify for tax credit used is def the way to go but with these cars out of warranty .. i just dont know about that. That said i just got my first tesla model y long range for $36 after credit also if looking used on tesla site u can see registration history and accident history.. i noticed a lot of rentals from Hawaii and i avoid rentals cars and cars from snow country

If I was in the market for a Model 3, this is probably the best time to get a brand new Model 3 ever. Do not buy used model 3 now.
Does it use Tesla vision or the sensors? Because the sensors are end of life from a software development perspective and they are only focusing on Tesla vision. If it doesn’t have vision, it will never have FSD. Never.
From what I think I've heard this will have ultrasonic sensors. What does Tesla Vision use if not cameras?
This is prob better to buy new and get cheaper financing anyways and prob a wash. Not having Tesla vision it will never really have the AI version of FSD. Tesla stopped developing the software for the sensor versions and they are only focusing on FSD for the Tesla Vision System (all cameras no sensors)

Look at the inventory section on the website. I switch the price settings to low to high. Then factor in the $7,500 federal discount. I suggest buying a new one
I bought a 2023 MYLR 3rd row seats white interior/exterior, tow option 10 miles for 46,000 this was an inventory vehicle and that price was after tax credit.
If it were me, look for one that qualifies for tax rebate. New or used (under $25k of course.) to truly get a “good deal”
But other than that, don’t focus so much on getting such a “great deal”. If you like the car and you like the price, just buy it. Looks just like mine. Great car

For reference I bought a blue MYLR 22 with 48k miles normal interior tinted and had some dents repaired with warranty that they will repair small dents and interior issues for 3 years for total of 27k with 1200 of delivery so the car costed me 26k around and the car is almost perfect condition.
I think your purchase is pretty good with all the add ons and the car looks to be in good shape miles are not high I just have to see if it’s the refreshed interior or the old style but other than that with far included is pretty good

The owner probably bought this around 60k back then before Elon decided to drop the price. But that doesn't matter. Generally speaking, cars depreciate on avg 10% year over year. A brand new 2024 model Y costs roughly 40k after tax credit. For 2021 model, 3 years past its prime, 40k * 90%3 = 29k.

You're not gonna get fsd, they're lying to you. Once you transfer the car to your name you lose their fsd. They're either lying or don't know how it works.

I just bought a 2021 7 seater in stealth grey with fsd 20k miles direct from Tesla for $40k. So essentially, sounds reasonable to me
The tax credit is not a rebate so you guys are factoring in something that may not be a huge factor.
For example I pay around 5k in federal taxes so that $7500 will only be worth $5k for me
It is a credit and now taken at POS so -7.5k even if your tax liability is zero

I don’t think that is correct. When you purchase at POS they have you sign a form where you state you are eligible for the tax credit and are assigning it to Tesla and if, when you file your tax return, it turns out that your tax liability would have been lower than the 7500, or your income too high to be eligible, then you are acknowledging you would need to pay the difference or the entire amount back to the government.
